Anyone started wrapping?

I've gone and bought all my paper tonight and I'm struggling to hold back, had anyone else started?!

I do like the brown paper if it has a nice festive (tasteful Wink) pattern in red / green. But at Christmas, Santa really has to be on the paper for me! Especially for any presents for children.

Hamsterfaces · 03/10/2015 18:14

Wrapping has to be done in front of a fire with tree Christmas tree lights on, so I leave it 'til the last week or so. Also, I like to get things out and look at them, rather than seal it all away too early.

supadupapupascupa · 03/10/2015 18:23

This is my wrapping theme from last year and it was highly successful. Red foil wrap, black crepe paper band and gold paper buckle. Non of it was very neat but the effect was ace!

I normally wrap Christmas Eve Blush. I am pretty much all done for presents though.

Then everyone gets a different kind of wrapping paper, which means you don't need tags.

This is the first year they don't believe in Father Christmas - I am not sure how I feel about it all yet!

daisydalrymple · 03/10/2015 19:05

Oh gosh scone, when did they tell you they don't believe? How old are they? Ds1 asked me in july if Santa is real. Threw me a bit mid summer hols, rather than December! Thankfully Id been prepared since last Christmas, so I managed to be fairly relaxed about it and I think we'll be ok this Christmas, even if he suspects, but I think it's his last one believing. He's a good boy though and am sure he'll have fun becoming santas helper and keeping the joy alive with dd and ds2 Grin

I ordered far to much wrapping paper, ribbon and tags today. Lovely brown paper with holly pattern for the grown ups, snowmen for the children and santas for the Santa present and lots of lovely green and red ribbon. I may end up with some organza ribbon too. They'll laso have a candy cane tied with the luggage tag.

I start wrapping in November, after bonfire night, and do a batch at a time (huge family) with mulled wine and Christmas film / music.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 03/10/2015 19:33

I'm wrapping as I go - bought paper from tesco and did my first 5 presents today :) it makes me feel more organised!

Sleepingbunnies · 03/10/2015 19:34

Wrapped two presents last night. Bought the most gorgeous black and silver glitter wrapping paper from Paperchase and had to test it out! Grin

wanderings · 03/10/2015 19:48

Mammoth wrapping session in December for us, in the living room with festive music. When it's time for my presents to be wrapped, I don't like being banished from the lovely room, so I'm allowed to stay as long as I keep my eyes covered.

daisydalrymple · 03/10/2015 19:51

glen thanks, am taking the candy cane idea! Smile

goblinhat · 03/10/2015 19:56

We can always keep the Santa magic alive.

I have teenagers now, but when they questioned then I was happy to explain that Santa is very alive and living in the most amazing place of all- that of our imagination.
Even knowing this we still watched out for the sleigh, listened for hooves on the roof and slept with an excited expectation.
Santa is still a huge part of christmas, he still brings stuffed stockings for everyone- including my 82 yo mother - who loves it.
DD (15)and I bake "santa" biscuits- which the whole family love, but we still leave one on the hearth with a carrot on christmas eve.

My oldest will be 18 this christmas, but Santa magic is still alive in our home.

Long live Santa!!

Whatabout · 03/10/2015 20:04

I have to get "the box" down to see what I bought in the papers chase sale in January. I do it every year and totally forget what I buy.

glenthebattleostrich · 03/10/2015 20:57

That's ok Daisy, I stole it from a Christmas magazine which accidently fell into my basket! Grin

DD won't get presents unless she fakes the Santa belief. Though we (hopefully) have a while yet as she is only 5.

daisydalrymple · 03/10/2015 21:22

Yes I bought my first magazine the other day (it's ok, it was allowed - it was after 1st October!). I decided seeing as DH had just spent a squillion quid on tkts for him and ds1 to go to twickenham next sat to watch Wales v Australia, then £4 on GH christmas recipes was a bargain.

Yes, when ds1 asked if Santa was real, we had a reasonable chat about it, but I did end by saying that everybody in this house has to believe in order to get presents!

ClashCityRocker · 04/10/2015 12:27

I like wrapping when it's early December with some mulled wine and carols on in the background.

candykane25 · 04/10/2015 18:30

Last years candy cane wrap - i bought cup cake boxes with windows and put wrapped presents inside like a hamper.

I detest wrapping. An afternoon of looking for the end of tape and vanishing scissors fills me with dread.

This year my present buying is like a military operation. I have a list stuck inside a cupboard with who is having what. As soon as I buy it, I wrap it up, label it, put it in the correct bag and cross it off the list. Dh has called it 'operation elf'.

daisydalrymple · 04/10/2015 19:21

dionysuss treat yourself to a roll of scotch magic tape on the dispenser, or the one you can put on your wrist, which dispenses a pre cut piece each time!

LBOCS2 · 05/10/2015 12:46

This is a text conversation my sister and I had last year when I foolishly optimistically left my wrapping until Christmas Eve. I text her from my work phone asking her if she'd be extremely upset if Santa's elves didn't wrap everything individually for her stocking...

I can't remember my theme from last year but a couple of years ago I did the Kraft paper + pretty ribbon and it is very effective. This year I bought 20m of copper paper from Cox and Cox in their post Christmas sale so I'll be using that, with some ribbon (and probably mini bells so that I can tell when the toddler is poking things she shouldn't be...)

glenthebattleostrich · 05/10/2015 14:38

Dionysus's, you need a wrapping box. In mine I have scissors, magic tape, double sided tape, normal sticky tape and ods and bods off ribbons. I'm just restocking it in preparation for the Christmas and birthday season. yes I am a big ol' saddo

candykane25 · 05/10/2015 16:32

I save all the biscuit tins that come at Christmas and have one for tags one for ribbon etc. i make tags out of old christmas cards. My first thought when receiving a card is usually about whether it will make a good tag or not. If people write on the back of the picture side it is RUINED.

AndLeavesthatweregreenturnedto · 06/10/2015 14:56

I like to be able to see everything laid out in one place, however dh often gets a shock at this point as he has little to do with the actual purchasing

Hilarious, mine too Grin It does look shocking though if you buy bit by bit to see it all together!

However he very much enjoys the dc doing all the opening on xmas morn. Smile

AndLeavesthatweregreenturnedto · 06/10/2015 14:57

supa

LOVE LOVE LOVE your wrapping ideas.

iklboo · 06/10/2015 15:04

DH & I wrap DS's presents on Xmas Eve. We put on a pot of mulled cider to drink as we go. The first couple of presents are wrapped beautifully........
