Christmas Outfit

Last year DD and I decided to wear pretty dresses for Christmas lunch, DH grudgingly (under the threat of a christmas jumper) put on a shirt instead of scruffy t-shirt and MIL was very impressed and asked if we can do it again this year. she likes to brag to her friends about it

Does anyone else choose a nice Christmas outfit? I need to convince DH that I am normal in treating myself to a new dress! And what do we think of this dress - www.lindybop.co.uk/dresses-c1/vanessa-cotton-midnight-poppy-wiggle-dress-p1883

That's beautiful! Love it.
We all dress up here. Dresses for the women and shirts for the men. It's lovely and makes it feel even more special. Especially as Christmas Eve is normally spent in joggers then pjs Grin

glenthebattleostrich · 30/09/2015 22:15

That's what I say to DH, about it being special.

We go out on Christmas Eve to panto, so that's our Christmas jumper day and jeans day.

I've always done this also, Santa usually brings DC a whole new outfit each along with their presents and grown ups all dress nice too for family dinner.

CakeNinja · 30/09/2015 22:45

Oh god, never!
Dp always dresses nicely on Christmas Day with an ironed shirt (which gets destroyed after making Christmas dinner for 21) and he asks if I'm going to dress up.
I don't. I'm too busy enjoying myself to worry about my clothes!
Each to their own, he likes it, I don't.
The dds like it though, any excuse for them two to get dressed up.
Ds spends the day in a fancy dress costume/Tshirt and pants or whatever, but he's a toddler so no one really cares.

ChristmasZombie · 01/10/2015 08:38

That dress is lush! Can't really go wrong with Lindy Bop!
I like to wear something a bit special on Christmas day, but not usually a dress (mind you, the past three years I've been breastfeeding or pregnant, so that's probably influenced my choices!). A nice festive jumper, maybe heels if we're leaving the house. DD has always had a special Christmas outfit, usually purchased in the January sales in Next. This year she's got a little Santa outfit that plays music. Baby DD has a matching Elf outfit, and so does my nephew.

Oh if you don't buy that I will! It's gorgeous! And it's a bargin. I thought you were going to link to a dress that cost hunners Grin GET IT!

in fact I may just buy one anyway

katienana · 01/10/2015 08:46

Yes I feel crap if I don't have a lovely new outfit to wear. It might be jeans and a sparkly top or jumper or it might be a dress, it just has to be new and make me feel nice. Will be pregnant this year so want to get a comfy but glam dress to wear.

BathshebaDarkstone · 01/10/2015 09:48

If I get Christmas money ahead of time I'll buy myself something, not a specific Christmas outfit but something I can wear all winter. I know DH is giving me money to buy another poncho so I'll wear that at the very least. The DC will probably ask for fancy dress so they'll wear that. DH can wear whatever he wants, he's a grown up. Smile

NeverNic · 01/10/2015 12:26

Yes always something new for Christmas day and boxing day for me and the kids. Oh sort of dresses up though this year I think I will take him shopping specifically for something nice. It's something I did as a child and carried it on

glenthebattleostrich · 01/10/2015 14:17

Right, I've ordered the dress, and a matching one for DD Grin

DH is not convinced but I cares not. I'm rather taken by the idea of sipping prosecco whilst basting the Turkey in a lovely frock.

wishing there was a clapping hands icon thingy

I'll make do with YAYYYYYYY!!!! Grin

glenthebattleostrich · 01/10/2015 18:39

I'm blaming you comeagain when DH sees the credit card bill!! It has been dispatched already. I'm ridiculously excited about it getting here.

I just bought this and this for which I'm blaming you Grin

tassisssss · 01/10/2015 22:01

I wore a long sleeved red lace dress last year. I am a big fan on a Monsoon jumper dress so may get one of those. I make everyone dress up too. And then usually my pre-teen lad gets a football shirt or a superdry hoodie on the day and I get over myself!

trixymalixy · 01/10/2015 22:13

I love to get dressed up on Christmas day. I actually put time for me to get dress and put some makeup on into my planner for Xmas day as one year I ended up with no time to get changed and felt a bit grubby.

DHs family don't get dressed up, it's rubbish.

this is what I'm wearing. I got it in the sale for a lot less than the price on that link for a friend's 40th and I plan to wear for my work Xmas party, Xmas day and Hogmanay.

AsTimeGoesBy · 01/10/2015 22:17

No way, anyone who tried to get me to dress up on Christmas Day would get very short shrift. Comfort is the only factor for me. It's lovely being at home all day, no make-up, no shoes.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 01/10/2015 22:50

How about a pair of these to go with it?!

Christmas Outfit
80sMum · 01/10/2015 22:59

I might change into a nicer top just before I dish up lunch, but I will stay in my jeans. I don't like dressing up before spending hours in the kitchen locked in battle with a turkey, goose, sausages and stuffing etc!
If I thought I could get away with it, I would wear a pair of old jog pants and a sweatshirt!

glenthebattleostrich · 02/10/2015 06:17

Come again, I think we may be bad influence on each other Grin. Love those blouses.

Trixy, that dress is gorgeous.

Mark, I need those shoes. They are amazing Grin

80s Mum, you need my spreadsheet, food prep and oven timings for the 2 days, no oven wrangling here! MIL actually brags to her friends about it!

OP posts:
Ragwort · 02/10/2015 06:47

No - I rarely dress up or any occasion - I suppose I try to look 'smart casual' but probably don't. Grin

PjDay · 02/10/2015 10:43

We all dress up but we are always 'smart casual' at the best of times.
The DC's all get a complete outfit as a gift under the tree and I wear a dress (although has to be comfortable) and kick off my heels when cooking etc.

I think doing all the prep, popping it in the oven then freshening up makes me feel less 'maid' and more 'host'.

glenthebattleostrich · 02/10/2015 13:29

Pj, you've just hit the nail on the head I think. It's the feeling part of it rather than just the chief cook and bottle washer.

OP posts:
CarlaJones · 02/10/2015 13:37

I think it's lovely. We always wear something nice for Christmas Day. It's a special occasion.

IssyStark · 02/10/2015 22:30

Yep, def dress up here. As said it makes me feel less of the drudge. When I was growing up, we changed for dinner at Xmas, but we had our dinner in the evening, not at lunchtime, so it was a real change from what we'd been lounging around in the rest of the day.

comeagainforbigfudge · 03/10/2015 20:17

Been put all day. Came home to a parcel. My order arrived!!! HOW EXCITED AM I?! except AF is in full flow so trying on things will only lead to disappointment as stupid bloated belly will get in my way! Angry
