Is there a poncetastic thread this year? I am itching to ponce!

Quick heads-up re. handmade decorations: if anyone lives near a Teinsr school, their Christmas fairs are usually a good source. Parents make love felt/wooden/knitted decs to raise funds by selling at the school. Don't ask me how I know fights down memories of endless elf-making.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 25/09/2015 20:34

Teinsr? Meant Steiner!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 25/09/2015 20:35

Oh, and am bowing down before Zorion's glorious wreath!

Davros · 25/09/2015 21:13

I love the Xmas threads but haven't seen this before. I don't get it, poncing is getting something for nothing, or is it ironic?Hmm

HairsprayQueen · 25/09/2015 21:13

Signing in, sounds just up my street, although I must confess I am a M&S Christmas dinner person, please don't chuck me out!

Can you get sloes in the shops? A supermarket or would I need a proper grocer? I don't live in a very hedgerowy area unfortunately.

SwedeDreams · 25/09/2015 21:21

I have already made my sloe gin, mincemeat and Christmas cakes which I shall feed with brandy until Christmas.

I have also ordered some Gisela Graham decorations already and DP thinks I have gone mad.

Oh wait till he sees what I have planned for December. It's a good year for holly berries, and there is a wood nearby. Wink

MadrigalElectromotive · 25/09/2015 21:22

Hairspray I'm pretty sure I've seen people selling them on eBay before - I haven't bought any though so I can't vouch for quality!

If not, when I lived in SW London, there were some in Richmond Park, and I also saw some once on Tooting Common, so don't completely write off your local parks, but you have to be quick!

Whatabout · 25/09/2015 21:26

DH has been asking about decorating the outside of the house for Christmas and where should we put lights. I think he's on board! We have also discussed our lack of open fire and will be substituting it for an early evening round the chiminea in the garden with hot chocolate and marshmallows and maybe some s'mores and chuck some pine cones in the fire.

PinkSquash · 25/09/2015 21:29

Just place marking so I can kick off my poncery in the morning as I'm exhausted tonight.

I love the poncetastic threads Xmas Smile

NeverNic · 25/09/2015 21:30

I am flipping excited by this thread!

PjDay · 25/09/2015 22:17

I have 2L of Merry Berry Gin, 2L or Cranberry and Clementine Vodka and 1L of Lemon and Lime gin infusing away singe June. I will drain them all the last week in November.

I bought a lovely Christmas candle today, Dobbies had a few in.

milkmilklemonade12 · 26/09/2015 03:24

Has anyone bought those candles that crackle like a fire? Saw some at the garden centre Smile

thundernlightning · 26/09/2015 04:09

Hooray for the poncetastic thread! marks place

SwedeDreams · 26/09/2015 05:26

Me! Me! I have those crackling candles, the Yankee ones. yuletide and emberlight. Haven't tried the woodwick ones yet.

Also a whole load of other seasonal Yankees, I like balsam and cedar, Christmas garland, and Christmas eve. Will start lighting these from 1st December to make my house smell like a Christmas tree.

Zorion · 26/09/2015 08:02

Goodness, thank you for all your lovely comments on my wreath! It is cheating a bit as it is last year's ponce. It was the first crochet project I did and actually all the little bits are done wrong (I didn't know how to do the stitch properly) but because its so crowded you can't tell!

I bought my Yankee candles in July! Icicles and Christmas Eve. My Mum was very rude about the icicles, said it smelled like toilet cleaner [fcsad] and I think the Christmas Eve one is a bit too cherrylike.

Still have lots of raspberry vodka left over from last year, that was delicious with cava! Will try that again!

PlopsyWhopsy · 26/09/2015 08:24

Marking place in a wonderful thread. I would love to make orange/Clove pot puri or a wreath. And Mars bar vodka!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/09/2015 08:49

Davros not 'poncing' as in being a ponce, it's being poncey (there that's as clear as mud ,eh? Xmas Grin )

Handmade beautiful originals like garlands handwoven from boughs of fir that you've lopped from your own trees or a family walk in the forest.
Lovingly decorated with cinnamon sticks and oven dried orange slices.

Cinnamon rolls for the oven that you've mixed and proved yourself, not just bought from IKEA.

They don't need to cost ££, just time and imagination. And the glow that comes from your NDN Envy face at your hollowed out red apples with tealights in them lighting up the path.

ahbollocks · 26/09/2015 09:00

Christmas card making with dd today, although official punching began 3 weeks ago with the christmas cake.
Half considering trying out some calligraphy for the 'merry Christmas ' over dds artisan paint finger painting Grin

HairsprayQueen · 26/09/2015 09:38

What do you lot have at the top of the tree? It's been a bone of contention between DH and I since we've lived together, I had an angel that he hated but he likes those plasticky glitter stars Hmm.

I think I'd like a really tasteful star perhaps, any inspiration of buying options or homemade ideas would be lovely!

Zorion · 26/09/2015 09:45

I am in search of a star hairspray that is frosted glass..
I have a glittery one for the time being.
I was in Salzburg at Easter and bought the most beautiful glass stars, but they were mini decoration sized so no good for the top. Oh I can't wait to get them out!

SwedeDreams · 26/09/2015 10:09

I have the archbishop of Canterbury on the top of my tree- here although my version is Rowan Williams Smile

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 26/09/2015 10:11

I am preparing to ponce.

I am up for all variety of homemade foodstuffs, but strictly NO knitting/sewing/needlecraft

In previous years I have stuck just to food poncery, but now I think my decorations need an upgrade from the ones I bought in poundland when DH and I first moved in together fifteen years ago. Where does the discerning ponce shop for Christmas baubles, ideally in a Victorian/traditional/red and gold style??

two of the few things I've managed not to kill in our tiny dank courtyard garden are holly and ivy, so I think some sort of wreath must be fashioned. Can anyone please do some sort of Wreath and Garland Making 101 session?

Wilhamenawonka · 26/09/2015 10:15

Figs were brandied yesterday ready to put into the hampers
There's no one else I could admit that too Grin

SwedeDreams · 26/09/2015 10:20

You are among your own kind here Wilhelmina - no shame- own your inner ponce!

TheOnlyPink · 26/09/2015 10:24

I'm struggling on where to start tbh, so I think a list making session is in order this week!
