Is there a poncetastic thread this year? I am itching to ponce!

This thread fell off my list.

Since I last posted my sloe gin is in, my hobbycraft order arrived yesterday for fun times and little dribs and drabs of eBay stuff to customise and make wonderful are arriving each day.

Just need to start a bit more now!

BettyBitesBums · 23/10/2015 18:00

Today I bought a plain twig wreath to pimp up with holly, ivy, sprayed cones and dried satsuma slices. The fruit for two christmas cakes is soaking in brandy and amaretto and I'll be baking them tomorrow and I've got everything ready for the blackberry gin. The poncing has begun!

trian · 23/10/2015 21:23

I am the ultimate crafter, I've made a baby for xmas!!!! hahahhaha, so no other poncing will be possible this year, but one day mumsnet, one day......

PjDay · 23/10/2015 22:48

Betty where did you get the wreath? I am looking for a good base.

GingerIvy · 23/10/2015 23:57

trian impressive! I am certainly not going that far for Christmas ponce! Grin

trian · 24/10/2015 07:06

thanks gingerivy, would it impress yu more to know that I made her almost all by myself!!!!! :-) . As I love xmas, I would have had her at the start of the academic year if i'd had more choice, then that would have given me more time to recover before xmas and would have given her a b'day that's not so near xmas, but i'm really, really not complaining. She's been a very, very, very long time in the making, all told, so I am just grateful. Looking forward to being able to properly celebrate xmas at some point, haven't been able to for years!!!

AnotherShirtRuined · 24/10/2015 08:04

trian Christmas babies are lovely! I have one myself who will be three years old just a few days before ChristmasSmile It gives me a chance to gather the extended family that maybe I would not otherwise be seing over Christmas that year. Also I see it as a chance to indulge in some extra ponce and an opportunity to try out some more recipies (mainly cakesSmile). As long as we make it a special occasion, I think we'll be fine.

GingerIvy · 24/10/2015 09:15

trian congratulations! I am suitably impressed with "I made her almost all by myself" Grin Surely if you are having the baby at Christmas, then someone else has to do the hard work, like cooking and cleaning! Always a bonus!

CoffeeBeanMonster · 24/10/2015 17:26

Congratulations Trian. I'm definitely up for poncing and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone's doing. I normally make mince pies, chilli jam, Christmas cake, crochet decorations, a few toys for kid's presents and stockings. This year I also plan to have jars filled with biscotti and truffles. I made a gingerbread house last year but it seemed like a waste as we didn't use it. I might make those tiny ones that fit on the side of a coffee cup.

Trumpton · 24/10/2015 17:51

Cake in oven and smelling great. Small DGC came to help and cracked their own eggs into it , shell is good !
We all made wishes one out loud and one in our heads.

Paperwhite narcissi purchased ready to start on 15th November. I grow them on beach pebbles in hurricane vases and use a watered down alcohol solution to keep them stocky while keeping good flower heads.

Raspberry Gin and Blackberry Brandy steeping and I have vodka possibly for werthers but not sure.

Tesco had 1ltr bottles of Baileys for £12 so I won't make my own but I found an ice ball mould in TKMaxx that makes 2inch spheres [[

GingerIvy · 24/10/2015 17:55

Our local B&Q have their Christmas displays up now. They have a nice variety of ornaments this year.

BettyBitesBums · 25/10/2015 07:25

PJDay it's from Hobbycraft. Small one for £3 and large for £4. I didn't get round to baking the cakes yesterday and we've people coming over today so looks like it's a job for tonight or tomorrow. The fruit will be very boozy by then!

MadGrumblyGnome · 25/10/2015 09:40

Oh coffee thanks for reminding me about a gingerbread house! I ponced epically over one last year, it was great. It had a chocolate mint stick log pile, freckles for roof tiles and a gingerbread teddy bear on candy cane skis with strawberry laces for reins. I stuck it all together with molten sugar because I was pregnant and paranoid about raw egg white in royal icing but nearly blinded myself on the process. Still have a tiny scar on my eyebrow from some wayward hot sugar! DH has banned me from doing that again so trusty royal icing this year I think.

I love Christmassy gingerbread houses.

MadGrumblyGnome · 25/10/2015 09:41

Trumpton how do you make your own Baileys?

Trumpton · 25/10/2015 09:56

This one is good . But at £12 a litre you can't beat that price .

Paperblank · 25/10/2015 10:01

Not poncing....but watching 12 Chefs of Christmas on Food Network. I'm getting a warm glow feeling inside Xmas Grin

PjDay · 25/10/2015 20:04

Thanks Betty. Will have a look.

ComeInBaldrick · 26/10/2015 20:08

Hi everyone :) I was the OP last year (under a different name) and can't believe it's taken me until now to read the poncetastic thread! Shock

I have however, began poncing! So far I've made an advent calendar, Christmas cards and some felt decorations. I've got a long list of stuff I want to make too, so I'm excited :) and skint thanks to a couple of trips to Hobbycraft Grin

I've bought some Vodka (1.5L for £21 at Tesco) and some parma violets and werthers originals. How do I go about making the flavoured vodkas with them? My mars bar vodka always goes down well, but fancied making different ones this year! What else is good to use?

Really want to make a sprout wreath!

The pictures are of the stuff I've made so far totally outs self!

Wow ComeInBaldrick, I am deeply impressed by the homemade ponce-craft you've already produced. Just Gorgeous!
I'm a blow-in to this thread but have previous form in the field of ponce. You lot have inspired me to get all my stocking tat shopping and a good inroad into present buying done as of today (air punch!). So now I can spend more time indulging myself with 8 whole weeks of faffing around with decorations, food and artisan type ponce bobbins.
I have plans for extremely beautiful gift wrapping this year. Which will double as fabulous house decor in the run up to Christmas when all the
Presents are piled up looking indulgent and sumptuous.
Hmmmmmm .....

MadGrumblyGnome · 26/10/2015 21:40

Baldrick that felt penguin is adorable. I am all inspired!

MrsPear · 26/10/2015 22:33

De lurking to say hi. Don't really make much food or drink - although I am going to try apple and blackberry gin and Mary berry's chutney. Or do crochet but I do do paper craft. Made first card and banner ... Lots more ideas brimming

NeverNic · 27/10/2015 00:30

For those of you wanting to try the cranberry gin up thread m&s have fresh cranberries in already. Was entirely planning to get frozen, but my local supermarkets didn't have any. Will be looking at doing that this week.

No real poncing here still but I have made more progress on present buying.

ComeInBaldrick · 27/10/2015 07:52

Thanks knotted & Mad :) I'm making more penguins today Grin

Whatabout · 27/10/2015 12:57

Baldrick do you have a patten for the Penguins? I want to make some!
