I'm afraid I'm not great on central London - never go there really. I'll be doing a trawl around the mentioned places, though!

Oh, Tate Modern has some good stuff, stocking stuffers, and colouring books etc etc. I expect all the museums are good. Isn't there a Museum Shop in Covent Garden?

Our local toystore has some really good stocking stuffers, and I also hit the local dollar shops, which sometimes come up with some v surprising finds (e.g. lego!). Reminds me, I haven't been for ages.

God, I really do have to get sorted for Xmas. At least we have great stockings, bought last year ...

FrannyonFire · 07/11/2006 20:50

yes yes hold on Filly

am unpacking shopping bags and preparing to gloat about fab lunch as well

Right, I went to Pollocks and was much better than I remembered

got the sprauncey calendar (will post pic for you some time Filly), a policeman puppet, an aeroplane thing to put on your bike (?) and a funny whistle thing

then got a small Chinese parasol in the market, he is obsessed with mine and I don't let him play with it as I don't want it buggered.

Went to Muji - not as fab as I remembered and rather pricey actually - some cute little wooden bricks shaped like London buildings (inc the Eye) but in the end didn't want to shell out a fiver. Got dp some origami paper and ds a build your own stegasaurus thing and a notebook

Then Museums - Natural History Mus was definitely the top destination of the trip, possibly in part because it is my favourite building in the world and I just love dinosaurs, so ds's stocking is going to be quite reptilian this year:

Dinosaur snow shaker, dinosaur stickers, dinosaur glider thing, plastic dinosaurs, and dinosaur cookie cutters. I am unboundedly chuffed by those.

Sci Museum quite good also but not so much for smaller children. V+A was fab for teenagers I have to buy for - some books on fashion, weird objets etc

and finally, did Daisy and Tom's - very disappointed. I hadn't been before and thought it was going to be fab, but fairly run of the mill really. Got a set of stampers and ink pads which was cute, and oooh ooh ooh

I got the Playmobil plumber with the toilet and the plunger :O

I think that was it, I also tried Habitat, Heals and Peter Jones but they were not much cop. I found some marvellous false moustaches for dp in Peter Jones but that was all.

However thank you all very very much for all the ideas. I was really feeling it was not worth going, before you came up with so many helpful suggestions.

Oh hurrah about Pollock's- it is fab, isn't it? Agree about Daisy and Tom, I couldn't see what all the fuss was about really.

FrannyonFire · 07/11/2006 21:11

Most of it was just ELC stuff tamum

and the hairdressers was just a poky little room

neal Street East. May live in yorkshire, but have fond memories of luch hours spent perusing said shop having purchased weekly extra huge jar of Neals Yard peanut butter.

SMUG ALERT:

Got all my stocking fillers - dh thought I was beneath contempt for bringing little bits of stuff back half way round the world from Australian holiday back in March. Huh - what does he know of the hell that is last minute stocking filler shopping for three.

mustrunmore · 07/11/2006 21:24

Done all my xmas shopping...

EmmyLou · 07/11/2006 22:16

but...but...that's just not festive

MrsBadger · 07/11/2006 22:22

glad you did so well - am of the plumber

and I hope you have fun with the false moustaches

controlfreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaky2 · 07/11/2006 22:25

bought my dp false moustaches last xmas.... we all wore them for days when anyone came round. laugh?...... well we did

MrsBadger · 07/11/2006 22:31

actually I have done the false moustache thing in my time - went on a hen in the summer where they were worn and discovered I suit the Drooping Mexican Bandit style worryingly well...

controlfreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaky2 · 07/11/2006 22:40

what mrs b, the one like sloooow dog in the alan alberg books?? the loobrush / hitler one was my fave.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 07/11/2006 22:54

aw frank am sorry, I think all my suggestions may have been crap

Am most sorry about muji. I thought it looked good. ah well

ah see also my ds is very into designer china eggcups, and so the V&A is a good bet for him, I suppose the same is not true of all 3 yos .

FrannyonFire · 08/11/2006 18:10

Filly I don't think your suggestions were crap - I think all the suggestions were good, I just didn't find stuff we wanted in all of the places. I thought Muji was especially inspired actually.

Re: the moustaches - the best bit is dp already has a moustache. I keep sniggering with an inappropriate amount of mirth when I think of them.
