OP posts:
Furball · 02/11/2006 20:20

me too! so will watch this thread

MIL I've bought her a facial

Sheraz · 02/11/2006 20:21

Know what you mean. My Mum always says ' I am so easy to buy for' LOl she has everything already and most of what i have bought in the past discreetly disappears by the Summer. Would love to get them something theya both love because they are so generous to me and the kids.

nikkie · 02/11/2006 20:22

Dad -wine sudoku books
Mam- new sponge/travel bag & Joanna Trollope(sp?) books& some other books

poppynboo · 02/11/2006 20:24

I have the same problem for FIL.
Saw a dancing penguin at Tesco but it was £25. I was thinking more like £10 - £15.

Any ideas anyone?

He changes hobbies like the wind and blokes are always the hardest.

DelGirl · 02/11/2006 20:30

Do you think you're mum would be up to/would like a manicure/pedicure or facial? How about some nice make-up or perfume?

DelGirl · 02/11/2006 20:31

your mum

Sheraz · 02/11/2006 20:39

My parents are off on a cruise in January, thinking of something for that. Maybe new wash bags. Sorry Jodee hijacked your thread. What about a pamper day for you and your Mum to go together.
LAst year I bought my Dad some garden tools which he loved, but my dad is not as fussy as my Mum.

sunnydelight · 02/11/2006 20:41

If they're nearby I would definitely go for an "experience" rather than things if you are struggling to find something they would like. Depending on your budget lunch or early dinner and theatre tickets? My mum loved eating out as she didn't do it very often.

MissybaBANG · 02/11/2006 20:42

hello, i have the same problem! they always say they don't need anything but there's no way i cannot buy them anything - i would feel terrible.

my dad likes books but haven't seen any inspiring ones.

my mum - this year i'm thinking tickets to the sound of music theatre show!!!!

calpopscalum · 02/11/2006 20:42

I've got my parents some joint presents this year. A gift voucher to go on the Waverley paddle steamer on the Clyde and an annual membership (senior citizen rates!!!!) for theScttish national Trust as they love going to these sort of places. Thiought they's be more useful than the tat and unnecessary stuff we normally get them.

MIL is getting tat - she askd for toiletry and perfume gift sets. FIL (nightmare man) asked for Armani vouchers - what we'd get him might buy him 1 sock!! Gonna get him lots of Grumpy fromt he 7 dwarves stuff from Disneyland paris as going there in Dec and he is grumpy!

Was wondering that is a FAB idea, the cruise is for my Mums 60th birthday, so that would make a great pressie. You star!

Boleyn · 02/11/2006 20:59

My parents have everything. So last year I bought my Mum a book and my Dad some interesting biscuits and an Oxfam goat between them. I think they were pleased. I'll do the same this year and my DS can make a goat or chicken picture for them.

EmmyLou · 02/11/2006 21:04

My mum says not to buy her presents but couldn't resist a friend's candles that she sells (along with other stuff)- a large 3 wick candle in a lovely aged terracotta pot with ivy, moss and tiny baubles around the inside. Festive but non-permenant centre piece, ie: will look good as a festive decoration, but doesn't have to be found a permanant home on a shelf somewhere.

Have also bought one with dried rosebuds around the candle for friend who is going out of her way to look after me while DH is working abroad.

Shameless plug for friend with new business and 3 kids: pippadesigns umm, try link:

redbullandbump · 03/11/2006 08:01

me and my brother have decided this year to put together and pay for a weekend away and to go and see a show

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 03/11/2006 08:30

im getting my dad The Da Vinci Code on DVD as his main present, but I also do a stocking for him which will include sweets/socks/book etc

MIL/FIL have EVERYTHING - we have a tiny budget as needs to be sent to them.... we are considering a goat from World Vision but I cant help but feel they will go mental! Maybe that and a few token gifts!

schneebly · 03/11/2006 08:34

You remember the one true media montages that everyoe was doing on here a while back? Well my dad, MIL and my 2 grannies are all getting a DVD of that!

NotActuallyAMum · 03/11/2006 08:35

My Mum and Dad have asked me and my sister to club together and get them a decent digital camera between them so that's them sorted

DPs parents - haven't got a bloody clue as usual!

joelallie · 03/11/2006 08:44

Dad always has a list of books that he wants so that's easy. Mum has many hobbies so there's usually something she needs - sometimes I feel that I'd like to get her something pretty and feminine but generally that ends up in the Church jumble sale pretty quick. However I am stumped this year about her....

gscrym · 03/11/2006 09:11

I get my mum pyjamas, slippers and dressing gown that all match. My dad is a fecking nightmare to buy for so I'm going to make up a posh foody hamper for him. I'll get them little things from DS and he makes them cards.

brightwell · 03/11/2006 09:15

I usually do up a nice hamper cheeses ,wine, pickles, chocs etc. This year me & my brother are going to get them a years National Trust membership. It's always hard to buy for those who already have everything!

expatinscotland · 03/11/2006 09:17

It's easy. From the kids, naff personalised stuff like tshirts w/their photo on it and calenders. They love that stuff!

From me, quirky historical stuff - like a framed Bank of Scotland Jack Nicklaus fiver for my dad (he loves golf) and a history book, and a Cow Parade statuette for my mum - the Saltire cow.

BettySpaghetti · 03/11/2006 09:22

This year I'm getting them a Freeview box which we'll install for them (technology not being their strongpoint!).

Usually its things like books, or hobby related stuff.

LunarSea · 03/11/2006 13:05

Have decided to get a skype video phone for mine, so they can see more of ds (because they live a long way from us and are always saying they don't see enough of him).

Have bought things like National Trust and English heritage memberships before.

mummydear · 03/11/2006 13:21

My Mum and Dad are quite elderly so I get them a big hamper with lots of goodies and luxuries that they wouldn't normally buy . As they live a far bit away its easy aslwell as it gets delivered.
