Does everyone buy Christmas presents for their toddler ?

I have always bought presents for my dc at Christmas, even when they've been too young to understand etc. Not a huge amount but a few presents to open even though they're more interested in the paper.
My friend however isn't getting anything for her 2 year old -says she's too young to understand etc. It isn't a money issue as they're financially fine and she buys for her older dc's.

Does anyone else do this?

I have a 15 month of and newborn

Jointly they are getting a little tykes sandpit and slide (won't really use for a good few months)

Baby is getting a personalised cd
15 month old a trike

I wasnt going to get more than that due to overload of toys already in the flat, hence outdoor stuff (communal garden)

Ds was 48 hours old on his first Xmas - I wrapped up a santa baby grow (cutest thing ever) and a book.

Dd was 12 weeks at her first Xmas - I made her a stocking because otherwise Ds would have questioned me endlessly about why santa didn't like dd! Her stocking mainly had in it bibs, dummies, cartons of milk, rattle, socks etc and I think she did get a few 'bigger' things - oh I've remembered - she got a jumperoo from us and most other people got her books / bath toys / clothes.

Dd is 4 now and I admit that this year is the first year she really gets it I think . Last year she loved it but wasn't excited beforehand etc so much. Maybe it's because she's at nursery now? Anyways this year I've definitely put more thought into her presents and I have things I know she will love rather than things she 'needs' iyswim?

Our youngest dc is 9 months old and we have got him a present, his siblings have got him a present and he has a Santa sack just like the other two with things like biscotti, a bib, maraca, bath bomb. He wouldn't notice if he didn't have anything but the other children would.

I do think that the idea children frantically anticipate Christmas and all its spoils only really comes about if they watch TV. Mine don't, and big one is only at pre school a little bit, so no one is egging him on to demand stuff. He knows there will be presents but there's not this big expectation.

Ds 2 will get a few smallish presents from us. He gets loads from others and we just don't have room for lots of toys and he ignores most of them anyway for a few favourites or drawing. As he gets older ( and we have a bigger home he will get more) we've always got him something but not gone overboard as he doesn't know or care. He is also most likely to be an only Hmm so I don't want him spoilt. I also know many kids with huge play rooms full of un touched toys. I don't need that much plastic tat.

Also were not religious but Christmas is surely about more than gifts. I think he is more exited about seeing gps etc. Which he understands more than presents.
