What 'main' present are you getting for you 11/12yr old dd?

DD has stumped us this year by only have little bits on her list (which will be in her stocking) such as pens/notebooks etc.

She has a cheap phone but is happy with that and has a hudl so no tech needed.

She likes fashion design stuff/interior design, drawing, anything arty etc. Not into makeup (though she'd like to be!)/perfume etc yet.

What are you getting your daughters? We can get her lots of bits but as she will get 'bits' in her stocking I was trying to think of one or two bigger surprise presents.

Thanks.

Wow! DD managed Grade 1 in jazz piano but wasn't that committed so we diversified into a cheaper option!

She hasn't used books - her Grandad belongs to a couple of uke groups so he's taught her the basics with (lukejam.blogspot.co.uk/p/songsheets.html?m=1 their music) & the rest has been YouTube, mostly by 'The Ukelele Teacher' - he's youngish & does a lot more modern stuff!

If you Google search for 'ukulele jam' you'll might find some other groups put their music online to download.

it's clearly not my day today!

I'm thinking it's about time I started another feel the ukulele love thread. We haven't had one for a while!

DD is 11, will be 12 on Christmas Day, so I have to think of 2 main presents!

I've got a beanbag for her room as it's being redecorated in a more 'grown-up' style, looking for a watch that's a bit more trendy one than the velcro-strapped one she has (and understandably doesn't wear!) and a game or 2 for the Wii. and some CDs.

I'm sure she'll grow out of lego friends any day now, but she's asked for the caravan and I saw it at a good price (thanks to the bargain threads here on MN!) so I've got that.
Also have lots of ramdom stocking fillers, again mostly via the bargain threads- an owl keyring watch, secret writing pen, zip-up earbuds, purse, makeup/toiletry bag, sweets, and I'm doing a hot chocolate pack- chocolate stirrers, mini gingerbread house, teaspoon that rests on the edge of a mug, and I'm plannng to get a photo mug to go with it. She loves her hot chocolate!

I quite like this watch for my DD but not sure if it's a bit too shiny/grown up.

I'd like to get her one with interchangeable straps but all the ones I've seen have terrible reviews.

Dancergirl · 25/11/2014 13:16

I think it is a bit grown up wyrd

I'd go for an ice watch - I bought them for my dds last year and they love them.

MaudantWit · 25/11/2014 16:17

I've just been looking at Ice watches. They're very nice but seem quite expensive for what they are (especially if your DD is prone to losing things, as mine is).

Hulababy · 25/11/2014 17:21

DD has an ICE watch which she loves. My parents bought it half price last year - look out for deals.

What Maud said! They're lovely but not inclined to spend that much, especially as DD is at the younger end of the age group we're talking about.

If she was a careful 14yo I might consider it!

This is now top of the watch shortlist.

Brings back fond memories...I used to spend every Saturday trawling the watch stalls at the local market when I was in my early teens Smile .

MaudantWit · 25/11/2014 19:16

Ooh, I like the London in the swinging sixties vibe of that watch!

amidaiwish · 25/11/2014 20:07

DD1 is getting
minecraft stuff
DS games
xbox skylanders
books
pjs/onesie

we don't go too mad at christmas, i don't keep clothes, ugg boots etc for Christmas but give them to them with the clear understanding that "other families keep these for christmas but you need them now so you can have them now but remember at christmas there won't be loads of stuff!" we've always been the same, me and dh too, never a pile of presents.

WyrdByrd · 25/11/2014 20:42

Yes Maud, I think it will appeal to MissW too. The 'Elle' watches come in lots of different funky designs & colours from about £6.99 - was a bit of a struggle deciding but she's into turquoise atm.

I bought her a cheapie Pandora style bracelet & several beads from eBay last night & she was on about getting that sort of thing for her birthday - found a turquoise glass one with a flamingo on which is a bit of an in joke between us Smile .

Also ordered capo, DVD's & nail varnish pens.
