What 'main' present are you getting for you 11/12yr old dd?

DD has stumped us this year by only have little bits on her list (which will be in her stocking) such as pens/notebooks etc.

She has a cheap phone but is happy with that and has a hudl so no tech needed.

She likes fashion design stuff/interior design, drawing, anything arty etc. Not into makeup (though she'd like to be!)/perfume etc yet.

What are you getting your daughters? We can get her lots of bits but as she will get 'bits' in her stocking I was trying to think of one or two bigger surprise presents.

Thanks.

How about the John lewis mini sewing machine?

annabanana19 · 24/11/2014 07:07

DD1 is coming up to 13 and her main gift is a laptop. Mine is slowly dying and all her school work is done on it. So it what she asked for.

DD2 is nearly 11 and her TV is 7yrs old and has an awful green/yellow tint to the screen so got her 24 inch one. She wanted an Ipod but her birthday is in January and she has a tinned money box and we have no idea how much is in so she will use that towards the ipod and we'll bump it up.

SeeChooJimmy · 24/11/2014 11:40

Dd1 is 11 and I've bought her...

a lenovo touch screen flip laptop,
A lg smart tv
a ice watch
2 pairs of trainers
lacoste polo
fred perry polo
a electricity ball you touch and it lights up
make up
4 outfits from new look

still to get her a jacket (north face/super dry/ armani?) Jimmy choo flash perfume

she has books etc for her Christmas eve hamper.

D0oinMeCleanin · 24/11/2014 11:44

Dd1 has begged and pleaded for this

MaudantWit · 24/11/2014 17:32

Lots of great ideas here that I shall be adopting as my own.

Where did you find the Marvel t shirt, Hulababy? So far, the only ones I have found that DD likes are adult sizes and so far too big.

And which M&S perfume is the Marc Jacobs lookalike/smellalike, lucjam? I'm sure that would appeal to DD.

Takver · 24/11/2014 18:42

Nothing 'main' here either - harry potter hoodie, new but not expensive headphones, 2 x Keri Smith (wreck this journal type) books.

Stocking will be fluffy socks, couple of cheap books, pens, sugar mouse, that sort of thing.

Hulababy · 24/11/2014 18:45

MaudantWit - actually ordered online from a US store but have seen similar to them in H&M and primark too. However DD wears adult sizes - she fits into a size 8, and a 6 in some places,

Softpebbles · 24/11/2014 18:46

Pandora bracelet so we can add to it!

OddBoots · 24/11/2014 18:47

We've combined it with a summer holiday and are sending her (and her older brother) on a PGL Disney and Paris holiday at the end of July - dh and I are staying home so we can afford it.

I'm too disabled/in pain to join in and we could never afford to go as a family so this is the closest we could get and will be a huge surprise for them (they're both very confident about being away from home without us - I know it's not the same for everyone). If anyone in RL recognises me here please do not spoil it for my DCs, we're planning the cheesy reveal on Christmas day.

My DD is only 7yrs, so haven't actually tried this out, but as she's enjoys interior design then what about something like Fashion Angels Interior Design Sketch Portfolio?? I would have loved this as a kid :)

www.amazon.co.uk/Interior-Design-Portfolio-Fashion-Angels/dp/B00NIETDTY/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1416855196&sr=8-14&keywords=fashion+angels+sketch

MaudantWit · 24/11/2014 19:10

Ah, thanks, Hulababy. I'll check out H&M. DD would be fine with a size 6 (or maybe 8) but the t shirts I was looking at were 36" chest, which would swamp her.

Shahrazad · 24/11/2014 20:19

DD2 (11) says she doesn't need anything... she had a Kindle Fire 2 years ago and still uses it daily.

She is getting some dvds (Amazon 4 for £10 deal - high school comedies etc, mostly 12s I have seen and know are ok) a box set of a comedy she loves, some books by her favourite authors, bath stuff, make up, socks, chocolate. She has already chosen a Christmas sweater. She will also have new pyjamas for Christmas Eve as it's a family tradition. She will be most excited by her Bake Off book, tbh. Funny kid.

iwantavuvezela · 24/11/2014 20:34

If you search on amazon there's a great teen vogue book on fashion (I think you even get a free subscription to teen vogue with the book). I know it's another smaller item but might be of interest.

Dancergirl · 24/11/2014 20:50

annabanana which laptop did you get for your dd? I am looking for one for my dd but am very confused by all the choice!

WyrdByrd · 24/11/2014 20:51

Well it was going to be a Raspberry Pi computer + add ons & books but for reasons too boring & infuriating to go into have had to shelve that idea so am completely stumped for a main present Angry Sad.

I am leaning towards doing a really nice 'stocking' and putting a bit of cash aside to do something together in the new year as can't find anything to buy tickets for in the next couple of months.

So, some of the following:

Monopoly Empires
Lush stuff
ITunes voucher
Watch - inexpensive but she currently has a time teacher which unsurprisingly she no longer wears!
Video pen
Ukelele capo
BABW Flamingo
So...body sprays
Kawaii/manga drawing book
Good quality felt tips
Flushed away DVD
Maleficent DVD
Young Sherlock books
Nail art pens

MaudantWit · 24/11/2014 20:56

::waves to Wyrd::

Yes, ours is heading towards being a mega-stocking, too. DD (sort of) needs a new bike, but I'm not sure when she would actually ride it. The last one had very low mileage, so to speak.

WyrdByrd · 24/11/2014 21:40

Hi Maud...great minds think alike Grin !

Cocolate · 24/11/2014 21:45

DD got an ipod touch last year Clean and she still adores it - best buy ever!!
This year she will be getting a subscription to her favourite magazine and.....I'm stumped - hoping for inspiration here.

CurlyWurlyCake · 24/11/2014 22:06

I'm buying my 12 yr old this

She drives her sister mad begging her to let her do plaits etc so I'm hoping she will like it.

Dd (11) will be getting a laptop. She worked really hard all year and has done extremely well in the grammar school test and we think this will be a perfect present for her to user for fun and work. She has no idea about this and I can't wait to surprise her! Grin

Dd had a popcorn maker for her birthday and that went down very well.

AriaBanjo · 24/11/2014 23:19

My dd is getting a ukelele wyrd!

CleaninQueen · 24/11/2014 23:21

Cocolate ooooo that's good I was worried that it would be a bad buy.

WyrdByrd · 24/11/2014 23:30

Aria - they are really cool! DD only started playing in March - Grandad got her started but she's taught herself lots using YouTube tutorials, including Harry Potter and Frozen theme tunes and her latest 'All About That Base' Grin!

These have come in really handy, and felt plectrums are good too - a bit easier on the ears when they are starting out!

AriaBanjo · 25/11/2014 07:24

Dd learnt ukelele in yr 4 & 5 with the whole class, so I'm hoping she'll enjoy having another go with it - She's grade 7 on violin, so the school pace was a little slow for her Confused. If you can recommend a good music book, that would be great!
