Talk to me about coffee...

Can't stand the vile stuff myself, but my DH is partial and recently announced that he won't have instant any more as it's not good enough

We don't have the money space for a coffee machine but I was thinking of getting a percolator (is that what they're called?) and maybe a coffee subscription.

Can anyone recommend a coffee subscription company? Or suggest something else that a coffee lover might, um, love.

He's a latte man if that makes any difference.

We get our coffee delivered from Pact and it is wonderful. We just use a bog standard cafetiere and have a handheld whisk/frother thing which was £1 from Ikea. It does the job nicely. DP has got an Aeropress for Christmas which has brilliant reviews.

I know you said you don't want a coffee machine due to money and space but we have a Tassimo in our teeny, tiny kitchen and it takes up no space at all. It's fairly slim and fits perfectly next to the kettle. DP is the coffee-drinker in our house and he loves it.

I know that really what he would like is a bean to cup coffee machine but they are £££ and huge so it's really not going to happen (I've promised him one for his 50th so I have 7 years to save!).

Quite like the look of that Aeropress so will investigate that further, and I think I have a voucher for Pact somewhere so will dig that out...

A percolator is a stove top coffee pot which may actually work for you anyway, so worth investigating. I always buy my cafetiere's from TK Maxx as they have some lovely ones for very cheap.

Does he like an espresso ? These take up no room at all - and make great strong, short coffees.

Good for making a short coffee for one person at a time.

I get a subscription from Has Bean and really recommend it - www.hasbean.co.uk/collections/subscriptions/products/imm-monthly I get coffee delivered every month, and they do a video talking about the specific bag they've sent out. I think they only do whole beans, so you would need a grinder (I have a Porlex, Hario are another good make) and if you want to be uber geeky a set of scales so you can measure how much coffee you want to grind. I think if it's just him drinking it then the aeropress is a good idea as it makes one cup.

Hello, I got a Clever Coffee Dripper from Union Roasted. I think it's better than a cafetiere as there's much less mess and it's better than a percolator as the coffee properly brews. It was about £17. Union roasted don't seem to do them now but I got my dad one from Amazon. Union Roasted have lovely coffee sets which come in a nice big box. They do a subscription service but I haven't tried that but they've also got lots of nice gift sets.

I have what iwantgin has which makes great coffee much better than a cafe tiere I use lavazza coffee or for instant I use azera Americano which tastes really good for an instant.

You could buy a coffee grinder and grind your own beans. Again lavazza beans are really good.

We swear by one like this it just goes on top of the cooker...on the ring...and it's not expensive. We use Lavazza or sometimes buy some really nice speciality coffee.

The one I linked to is 50 quid as it;'s John Lewis but you can buy a perfectly good one for about 15.

We make a pot, add a splash of boiling water to DHs (not to mine I like it strong) and then add milk.

It's gorgeous.

Oh and OP...if you get one like ours, all you need to buy is coffee. No pods or filters. Can't be doing with that crap.

My issue with cafateires is that the coffe's bloody lukewarm by the time it's ready!

Some fab ideas here, thanks ladies... Think I'm going to wait for Amazon Black Friday next week and see if any coffee related bargains come up otherwise go for one of those Aeropress thingymebobs.

Good tip on the good quality instant as well - I think part of the problem is that I buy all the coffee and I do it purely on price as I don't have to drink it but only buy the best earl grey teabags for me

Aeropress here too - my other half is a massive coffee snob and it's what he uses at home.

I use a stove top espresso maker and top up with hot water to make an americano. But it would be easy enough to buy a milk frother to make lattes.

We also use Pact for our beans and have a grinder.

Does anybody know if you can use the stove top espresso makers on an induction hob?

I have never dared to try incase not!

I don't like coffee and nor does DP, but we keep 'naice' coffee for guests. Jamaican Blue Mountain always goes down well but it used to be hard to get your hands on in the UK, Waitrose and Fortnums sell it now though. The fortnums stuff comes in beautiful tins so you could get a selection of coffees and a cafetière? Would make a lovely gift.

I know you didn't want a coffee machine, but we have a dolce gusto machine, it takes up about as much room as the kettle, if not slightly less. They have a range of different ones (some are bigger) I think ours is the Krups one. They are quite reasonably priced and reckon you could get an even better deal around Black Friday.

Hello, I am buying a coffee from here www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/c/coffee/, I like that they have various coffee beans, but I think better option is filter machine, it look likes this, percalatios its for a big big events, and coffee gets cold very fast.

Y y y to the aeropress, especially if there is only 1 coffee drinker in the house. Makes perfect coffee, super easy to clean and takes up no space.
