Gentle Christmassy film?

DS is 6, but is quite young and innocent in his tastes. I am looking to buy a Christmassy DVD or two for us to snuggle up with on Christmas Eve.

He loves The Snowman on DVD, and I have bought The Polar Express DVD As he liked the book so much.

Any other ideas please?

Arthur Christmas

berceuse · 06/11/2014 22:29

We watched The Magic Reindeer this week (must have been on my lovefilm list since last Christmas). I thought it was a sweet film, set on Christmas eve.

SkullytonFlowers · 06/11/2014 22:30

i like the santa clause movies :)

BOFster · 06/11/2014 22:30

Elf!

SisterMoonshine · 06/11/2014 22:32

Yep - Elf.

hugoagogo · 06/11/2014 22:35

Not sure 'Elf' is that gentle - although it is brilliant.

What about 'a Muppet Christmas carol'?

SisterMoonshine · 06/11/2014 22:39

Ikwym, but if he likes Polar Express - and that is quite nightmarey...
I think Elf's gentle enough.

rallytog1 · 06/11/2014 22:51

Miracle on 34th Street - the original version. We watch it every year.

poolomoomon · 07/11/2014 10:06

Another vote for Elf here or Frosty the snowman. Polar express is the best though IMO.

spaghettiarms1 · 07/11/2014 10:09

Arthur Christmas or Muppets Christmas Carol Xmas Smile

JustAShopGirl · 07/11/2014 10:29

Home Alone - hilarious and Christmassy - our Christmas tradition now.

We always look out for the short animated film Prep and Landing too - it is really good.

JubJubBirds · 07/11/2014 10:30

Muppets Christmas Carol!! Always!

Or Santa Clause?

TSSDNCOP · 07/11/2014 10:32

Arthur Christmas is my favourite.

I heart Bryony Elf.

averythinline · 07/11/2014 10:35

I would watch polar express first my ds got upset at that age even though loved the book....prep and landing great also Arthur Christmas..we tried polar express again at 8ish and was ok ..but still liked the book better...he is v sensitive on visual things though Smile

Seriouslyffs · 07/11/2014 10:37

Elf!
Polar Express is boooooring!

kiwidreamer · 07/11/2014 13:08

Nothing beats Arthur Christmas it really is fabulous, I've bought Polar Express for not-particularly-sensitive 6 & 3yr olds - do I need to rethink my choice??

There are a bunch of Mickey Mouse Christmas DVDs that we all love to watch --all year long-- which might be an option??

CMOTDibbler · 07/11/2014 13:10

Prep and Landing is brilliant

Just be careful with The Snowman....my niece watched it one year and sobbed! 25 years later and she still can't watch it Grin mind you I'm like that with Dumbo

It's not Christmas with us till we've watched Muppet Christmas Carol!!

Everythingwillbeok · 07/11/2014 15:52

When Santa fell to earth is the most gorgeous Christmas film ever. The first time I watched it I wasn't sure as its German and dubbed in English and seemed a little bit cheesy, but I've seen it now at least six times and its so lovely and the scenery is stunning. So Christmassy I could watch it now with a hot chocolate!!

itstheyearzero · 07/11/2014 15:57

My DS (5) loves Jingle all the Way. Not gentle as such but he can relate to the little boy in it.

VirtualPointyHat · 07/11/2014 16:04

If you have netflix, the christmas bunny! so cute! DH and I watched it 3 times last Dec

Allstoppedup · 07/11/2014 16:17

Another vote for Arthur Christmas. I was surprised by how enjoyable it was.

WhizzpopWhizzBang · 08/11/2014 21:49

Muppets Christmas Carol
Elf (LOVE Elf!)
Santa Who?
The Snowman
Snowman and the Snowdog
Father Christmas (Raymond Briggs)

WhizzpopWhizzBang · 08/11/2014 21:51

If he likes The Snowman, what about Father Christmas by the same guy? That's really sweet, we love it here.

Just seen I was beaten to it! Smile
Yes, if he enjoys The Snowman he'll like Father Christmas. My two love it. It's all about what Father Christmas gets up to the rest of the year, and when he goes on holiday and stuff.
It's lovely and definitely gentle!
