Family boardgames?

Looking for suggestions for family boardgames. The only time we really play them is over the Christmas holidays. Last year we got jenga and set of playing cards, but fancy some boardgames that are fun and easy to play, 2 adults, and dc ranging from 17-8.

Was thinking trivial pursuit, monopoly, scrabble. But think dc might object to scrabble and the 8yr old might find it a bit more challenging than fun.

Carcassonne is a big favourite in our house. Also, for totally silly fun, we bought Animal upon Animal a couple of years ago after I saw a recommendation on here. It's been great and is very handy when you have mixed groups in terms of age or competitiveness!

Carcassonne is good fun for most ages. DD likes playing Yahtzee with us. I used to love playing Scrabble with my family, Mum would help so it wasn't too difficult. Some people like Cranium Cadoo, not my thing, but maybe worth looking it. Settlers of Catan? Don't know how good it would be for younger ones but worth a look maybe. I love Pandemic and I know my DSis' family played it with kids of about that age. It's co-operative so that can be nice- no fighting!

My Dcs are 8 and 10 and we all enjoy these. Monopoly tends to drag on though.

re the 8yr old and scrabble, I'm not allowed to help now, she's far too independent for help!

Id go for Adult Articulate (to cover all ages) but add in an extra rule for under tens - as many Passes.as they need.

We like bananagrams. Scrabble like but much faster pace and everyone can play to their level. Ds1 (7) loves monopoly but hasn't got into Cluedo yet so it is sitting on our shelf unloved at present. I've got board games for Christmas for the dcs so waiting on top of my wardrobe to be wrapped I have Articulate for kids (jsut because mine are little, I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old too. I'd go for the regular version for yours) and Sorry! which is a bit hit when they go to their gran's. Also Pop Up Pirate for the 2 year old but yours are probably a little beyond that .

Pictionary and Triv are my favourites. With triv you can get a family version, which has a set of kids' questions and a separate set for adults, but I think it's much better to play the adult version and give younger ones a choice of a,b or c (making up the other two).

My DC are v into monopoly ATM. Cranium is good, and at 8 I think your youngest could join in well with the adult version.

I've also been recommended Dobble on here. Where is Moldova is a good game for adults or teens, but possibly not for an 8 year old.

What about uno? Easy to learn but fun for all ages. I'm planning on getting one of the uno extreme or blast or whatever the hell they're called versions.

Re Articulate, we have to give our 8yo quite a few passes even on the Kids version, so not sure what the adult one would be like.

Uno gets played a LOT in our house, definitely worth having.

Q-Bitz is great fun.

I bought Labyrinth for Ds 9th Birthday.
Easy to set up, no complicated rules and it was slightly frustrating at times but a fun having a laugh frustrating.

We like to play Cluedo together in our house. A bit macabre and a lot of fun!

Marking place because i need to find a board game to play with dd that wont drive me insane.

She is 9 and cheats./changes the rules as she goes along

We bought family trivial pursuit recently and even I, self confessed loather of board games, have enjoyed it. High praise indeed.

Last game was with grandparents and I nearly died laughing! (Our kids are 6 and 10 if that helps - grandparents are 66 and 69!)

Cadoo is good.

I recommend Blokus and Labyrinth - and a book of card/dice games so you can do Yahtzee etc without needing to buy the actual set, and loads of games like Uno, Old Maid without needing special cards.

ooh thanks lots to look at there. we took up camping this year to, so need small games to take with us.

We have uno, I had forgotten all about it. The dc like playing that so might be worth looking at the extreme version as ours is just a pack of cards. Fond memories of playing that t my grandparents house when I was a little girl.

We play Uno, Labyrinth, SET, cranium (least successful), pictionary, charades, pitchcar, card games, Triv and the one where you stick something on your own forehead and have to ask for clues as a mixed-age family and they are all good.
Pass the bomb and Perudo better for over 8s I think.

My DC are 7 and 10. We play board games with them and grandparents. UNO is good, as is jenga, my Dad likes playing dominoes with the DC. Also there's ludo/frustration although it is bloody frustrating Maybe othello, thats a good game, but it's just for 2 players.

For camping, look at travel sized games and a pack of cards. We have magnetic ludo, magnetic chess (which we play draughts on too), travel kerr-plunk (not so great) and had travel hungry hippos (great until the paddles twisted en route home after about 8 different holidays). We've also gone through a few imitation connect 4 travel sized versions. DD also had travel "Guess Who" but never really liked that one. I bought travel monopoly for this year's hols, but we never actually opened it (it was one of the things I had wrapped up to distract DD on the flights) so I'll keep that in my stash for next year.

At home, we have Monopoly (well well loved), Operation, Mastermind, QBitz, another full sized chess/draughts set, full sized ludo, Cluedo - all much used. Connect 4 recently fell apart after much repairing. DD got a game Headbanz last year but we haven't opened it yet, maybe this Christmas. We have multiple packs of cards, and a bag of dice.

They love Ticket to Ride, Monopoly, cluedo, Uno, Articulate, Wordsearch, Pictureka(great fun), Scattergories (great for all ages), get it wrong to win, pass the bomb, last word, charades

Our older 2 are 6 and 8. They've only started getting into board games, but so far they like:
