We always have Christmas dinner at around 5-6ish, so have never needed Christmas Tea. But this year I am thinking about having dinner at 1.00 p.m.
This will mean we need something later on around 7-8ish.
Please give me some ideas and inspiration.
Thanks Smile

AlPacinosHooHaa · 12/10/2014 22:00

I am confused Grin.

We have lunch at 12 - 2pm then dinner at any time from 6 - 9pm.

Tea is late afternoon.

Cirsium · 12/10/2014 22:01

Growing up we had cheese, cold meat, nice bread, coleslaw and other salad bits, fruit, mince pies, Christmas cake, etc laid out as a buffet for people to help themselves to as they felt hungry. DH and I usually eat later, 4pm ish, than we did as children and don't bother laying food out in the evening just snack on similar to above.

RJnomore · 12/10/2014 22:06

Huge lunch, cheese plate chocs and mince pies at night.

FurryDogMother · 12/10/2014 22:17

A wafer thin mint - who can eat later, after Christmas dinner? Maybe a satsuma and a liqueur chocolate, but surely nothing more?

cooki3monst3r · 12/10/2014 22:38

What do you normally eat for lunch?

For us it has always been cold gammon from xmas eve, cold turkey/chicken and stuffing from the lunch plus sausage rolls, cheeses, nuts, dates, Christmas cake. Maybe a freshly baked french stick or two... chocolates, obviously!

All of which is forced down to the point of explosion!

WantAnOrange · 13/10/2014 06:20

We also have lunch around 1pm too, then late evening we have a naice cheese board with grapes, crackers and my home-made chutney. Plus a bucket load of chocolate Grin

merrymouse · 13/10/2014 06:26

Quality Street.

Turquoisetamborine · 13/10/2014 07:10

Tea is what some people myself included call dinner Alpacino.
I have my dinner around 12 then tea about 7.
Anyway I don't do the Xmas cooking, my mam does that but we would have leftover dinner if hungry or a cheeseboard. Plenty chocolate too.

noideawottoget · 13/10/2014 07:33

we usually have christmas dinner about 4pm. i make a huge roast so we tend to save our pudding until later on when our dinner has gone down.

poolomoomon · 13/10/2014 07:57

That's early for christmas dinner. Christmas lunch... Seems a bit of a large meal to have for lunch and the morning will certainly be hectic! I'd advise keeping it at 4-5pm personally so it's dinner...

Having said that if you're really certain you want it at 1 dinner could be a cheese board, crackers, chocolates, cold meats/quorn etc? Picky foods really.

Mrsgrumble · 13/10/2014 07:59

We always had m&s party food in the evening (dinner at one here)

Otherwise turkey sandwiches

elQuintoConyo · 13/10/2014 08:02

Fruit.
Water.
A wheel of Boursin.
Box of After Eights.
Partridge in a pear tree.

combust22 · 13/10/2014 08:03

Not much, lunch is such a huge meal and we usually graze all afternoon.

Maybe some cheese, turkey leftovers, crackers, pickles, mince pie,s fruit, etc.

Tigresswoods · 13/10/2014 08:04

Err, isn't it the law to eat turkey sandwiches?

BellaVita · 13/10/2014 08:06

Cheese board, pork pie, pickles.

AlleyCat11 · 13/10/2014 08:06

There's no way I could eat a Christmas dinner at 1pm. I know a lot of folk do though. Do you have wine at that time too? Is the rest of the day spent in a carb coma?
We have dinner about 5 or 6pm, then at night we have some cheese, crackers & grapes with stout or beer. We get one box of posh choc, which we eat throughout the day. Dessert is usually triffle or ice cream.

combust22 · 13/10/2014 08:08

Alley what do you do for lunch?

We always have our main meal on christmas day at 1pm.
Kids ahve usually had only chocolate for breakfast so are hungry by lunch time.

DoubtfireDear · 13/10/2014 08:10

We have bacon rolls for breakfast after present opening, then munch on whatever confectionary is about for the rest of the morning, then go to the pub, come. home for christmas dinner by about 2, then when its done we just pick for the rest of the day/evening if we get hungry; turkey sandwich, crisps, mince pie etc. I can't imagine anyone actually managing another meal on christmas day.

combust22 · 13/10/2014 08:11

You take the kids to the pub on christmas day?

DaisyFlowerChain · 13/10/2014 08:14

I don't eat breakfast so DS is allowed whatever he likes Christmas morning, lunch around 2pm then we just graze in the evening so neither of us has to cook.

VivaLeBeaver · 13/10/2014 08:15

Cheese and crackers.

Chocolate. Wine.

ohtheholidays · 13/10/2014 08:18

We have our Christmas dinner between 1 and 2 and then tea is in the evening about 6.30,we have cold carved turkey, ham and beef, prawn salad, green salad, vol au vonts, dips and crudites, cheese board, freshly baked breads, picky party bits and then different types of gateau.

wfrances · 13/10/2014 08:38

nothing
we eat dinner about 4ish.

magicalmrmistofelees · 13/10/2014 08:46

Usually nice cheese, gammon, crackers, pickles etc. It's my favourite part of Christmas Day! Far better than Christmas lunch. We usually end up eating tea at about midnight as we can't face any food til then!
What's wrong with taking the kids to the pub on Christmas Day? DD is only 11 months but we always go to our local for a drink at midday, and can't see us stopping when she gets older. It's a lovely chance to have a walk in the fresh air and see friends from the village.
