We always have Christmas dinner at around 5-6ish, so have never needed Christmas Tea. But this year I am thinking about having dinner at 1.00 p.m.
This will mean we need something later on around 7-8ish.
Please give me some ideas and inspiration.
Thanks Smile

Enjoy the pub, large or small DoubtfireDear. Pubs can be the hub of the community, even if yours wasn't; its your Christmas, so up to you what you do.

DoubtfireDear that sounds magical! I wish we had a pub within walking distance Sad.

Sounds lovely DoubtfireDear Smile. Really don't understand this perception that pubs are sleazy, seedy places full of drunk old men!

I think combust22 is most likely the only person here in the world to think it inappropriate to take any child to any pub. I think we've made our point now though!

It is lovely and it's one of the nice things about living in a village, because you're just extending the celebrations with other people you know, I don't think I'd feel the same if it was a pub full of strangers.

The bar opens at 12 and most people disappear around 3 unless they are staying on for Christmas dinner.

My village is ace at Christmas Grin

We eat lunch at about 1 and supper is cold cuts, cheese, pork pie and bread rolls.

We don't usually go to the pub on Christmas day but we do all go on Christmas Eve after the crib service at church.

Another one whose family enjoys a couple of hours in the pub before Christmas dinner.

Great atmosphere, a real community spirit, a chance to see friends and other families and a few G & Ts (obvs not for dd Smile) What's not to like?

For tea we tend to just have party food available to throw in the oven if people get hungry - dim sum, samosas, chicken satay, pizzas and we always have a good cheeseboard

In the olden days when we used to have Christmas lunch between 1:30 to 2:30 I used to do a supper of cold meats, pickles, cheese, mince pies and Christmas cake.
But nowadays I do brunch from about 11am to noon, and Christmas dinner about 7:30pm onwards, so no tea at all.

Cake, mince pies etc now on Boxing Day.

Those of you that take your kids to the pub on Christmas day, how old are they? Just being nosey!

I love our local pubs & wouldn't think twice about taking DD (5) on Christmas day, but it's such a busy day for us that we can't fit it in.

We eat at different times, different years, depending on what our plans are. This year we are eating out at 1pm. Christmas tea will be turkey/cranberry/stuffing/mayo sandwiches, some M&S picky bits, including dessert and also some cheese/crackers/chutneys/sausage rolls. Mmmmm can't wait!

cooki3monst3r · 13/10/2014 23:41

Mine are 2 and 4. If we had a pub within half a mile I wouldn't think twice about taking them down there on Christmas day. Probably only for half an hour mind you!

My eldest loves ordering an orange and lemonade (a VERY rare treat!) at the bar, and my youngest loves walking around new places and being nosy!

DoubtfireDear · 14/10/2014 01:51

Mine is 5, he's the only child in the family, the next youngest being my sister at 17.

As I said, Mum and Dad have done the same thing on Christmas day since I was 6 months old!

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg brunch with bucks fizz. Dinner about 3 then whatever we fancy later pick from nice bread pickles sausage rolls pork pie salad

We also have our lunch at around 1pm so just have turkey/gammon sandwiches and mince pies at 5 or 6pm. In the past I've gone for the whole buffet thing but nobody wants it after such a huge lunch so I just keep it simple now. It's an awful waste of time and food to slave away in the kitchen on food that ends up sat on the table looking sorry for itself lol.
