Dd nearly 4. I want to suggest DVDs to GPs as Christmas presents.

Dd currently loves:

Princess Sofia
Frozen

She quite likes:

Tinkerbell
The Little Mermaid
Cinderella

She is terrified of:
Tangled

She has shown no interest whatsoever in Brave.

What do you think she might like?

OP posts:

Watching with interest as we are in the same position.

We already have Mulan, the Jungle Book, Snow White and Dumbo.

She likes Snow White best, but is frightened of the evil Queen. But she falls about laughing at the dwarves washing their hands and the animals cleaning the house, so generally loves watching it, she just has to flee the room at certain parts.
Dumbo is also a favourite, but she is a bit scared of the other two.

I was considering getting her Lady and the Tramp, The Sword in the Stone or Beauty and the Beast for Christmas. I think generally the older ones are a bit slower paced, and so better for little ones. I haven't seen Sophia the First, is it good?

RunawayReindeer · 10/10/2014 11:02

My dd is similar, and ones that have proven most popular are: tinkerbell and the secret of the wings, haven't tried the pirate fairy yet but that's the next one for us.

Bambi and the lion king didn't go.down well, she loved gnomeo and juliet, really enjoys the mickey once upon a Christmas, cinderella (and 2 and 3) enjoyed little mermaid.2 but not.3.

Sword in the stone didn't go down at All well! Why not get the Sofia the first 'special' the floating palace/ holiday in equestria/ once upon a princess/ two to tangu/ sasha the.sorcerer?

Bolshybookworm · 10/10/2014 11:13

Have you tried the Studio Ghibli cartoon? My daughters obsessed with them (she's 3). My neighbour totoro is her favourite but she also likes Kikis delivery service and spirited away (although this one is a little scary in parts). Beautifully animated and totoro is so sweet it makes me well up every time we watch it.
They're not princessy but some of them are quite girly.

Bolshybookworm · 10/10/2014 11:13

Sorry, loads of typos there- feeding a baby at the moment!

MooseyMoo · 10/10/2014 11:46

OP - if she is terrified of Tangled she wont like Brave. There is a big bear in it which my DD (4.6yrs) was scared of.

If she likes Tinkerbell she might like Peter Pan. My DDs current favourites are Toy Story 1-3, Despicable Me and Tinkerbell (esp Secret of the Wings)

Disney DVDs are BOGOF at the moment so I've bought Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy, Sleeping Beauty, Monsters Inc and 101 Dalmatians for my DC.

superbagpuss · 10/10/2014 11:52

when mine were 3/4 they loved mary poppins and chitty chitty bang bang - very long and slow films and needed explaining but most enjoyed.

My son also loves the live action wind in the willows, but hes a little odd :-)

georgedawes · 10/10/2014 11:54

Aladdin

Bolshybookworm · 10/10/2014 11:56

I still love Mary poppins- the songs are so good!

dinkystinky · 10/10/2014 11:56

Muppets movies are good - either the really old ones or the more recent ones.

Teladi · 10/10/2014 11:56

My DD and I are in the middle of watching her first film - Kiki's Delivery Service - as mentioned above. We're halfway through but have saved the second half for another day. I'd never seen it before and think it's delightful! We have My Neighbour Totoro as well but haven't watched it yet.

Teladi · 10/10/2014 11:56

Sorry, DD was 3 in August!

Bolshybookworm · 10/10/2014 12:16

I'm a bit obsessed with Totoro teladi. Not much happens in it, but it's just so so sweet. Great soundtrack as well- my daughter loves the title track so much we downloaded the whole thing. Bears repeated viewing which is good!

paneer · 10/10/2014 12:43

Mine loved Mary Poppins at age 4 too.

ToddleWaddle · 10/10/2014 20:48

Shrek, Alladin, Toy Story, Kung Fu Panda and Finding Nemo.

mydaftlass · 10/10/2014 20:52

Ponyo is popular here with 4 and 7 year olds. Totoro too.
Nemo, monsters inc, shrek...

MrsDumbledore · 10/10/2014 20:56

Finding Nemo has gone down well. A big favourite is An American Tail, which has pleased me as it was my favourite as a child. Good songs.

attheendoftheday · 10/10/2014 21:00

I was coming on to suggest My Neighbour Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service too, my dds (age 3 and 18 months) adore them, and I find them much less painful to sit through a million times.

In terms of Disney, my two like Finding Nemo, the Winnie the Pooh Movie and the Piglet Movie. Also dds of episodes of Dora the Explorer, Peppa Pig and Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs.

dustybinlydia · 10/10/2014 21:35

How about The Rescuers?

Swan Princess - It has been years since I watched it. I can't remember any particularly scary bits though.

dustybinlydia · 10/10/2014 21:39

Flushed Away?

Pico2 · 10/10/2014 21:57

My DD likes all of the ones you have. She also likes:
Alice in Wonderland
Despicable Me
Monsters Inc
Finding Nemo

imip · 10/10/2014 22:00

In a different vein, mine love/d nanny McPhee. They have also loved most of the above, Disney to studio ghilbi!

ShesAStar · 10/10/2014 22:45

My DD loves all three Toy Story films. She asks to watch one of them most days.

All the Toy Story films
The Incredibles
Wallace and Grommit (sp?) - my five year old loves them all

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 10/10/2014 22:55

what scares your DD in Tangled op? My 2 yr old DD loves it - we watch it at least once a week.
DD also loves Sofia the First and Frozen. Does your DD like Doc McStuffins?

In terms of films, has she seen Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, the Aristocats, Robin Hood or Fox and the Hound? DD also likes Despicable Me (she likes the Minions). Happy Feet?

Haven't tried DD with these yet, but a Muppet Christmas Carol is absolutely fab!! And Muppet Treasure Island.
I love Miracle on 34th Street, but that's probably for an older child.
