Present for 2-3 year olds?

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 01/10/2014 08:34

My dd will be 2 in January, so obviously her Christmas / birthday presents need to be a spread of stuff she can play with for the entire 2-3 age range! Any ideas?
I'm already thinking of asking in laws to get her dressing up stuff for a box I'm putting together, and an aqua doodle.. But other than that I'm at a loss!
She's likes stuff for both genders- her current favourite toy is a tool bench and hammer!

Dolls house?
Wooden kitchen/shop?
Balance bike?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 01/10/2014 08:41

DD (3 soon) has loved playing with over the past year:

Play kitchen (also got her a small table and chairs set) - IKEA
Wooden railway
Fancy dress box (all sorts of random items and costumes)
Hobby Horse
Wooden jigsaws
Arts and crafts - I managed to find a paint book that only needed water on the paintbrush so no mess!

Wow Toy Set or Happyland or Fisher Price Little People
Toy Picnic Set
Rucksack to put all her precious things in
Pushchair and Doll
Train Set
Toy Barbecue

LikeSilver · 01/10/2014 09:23

My dd is 2.5 and she loves:

Play kitchen (particularly the Hape pasta set!)
Dolls house (she got this last Christmas but is really playing imaginatively with it now)
Dressing up
Sticker books
Anything Disney Princess
Tea set
Baking stuff - she really likes helping to cook
Wooden toy farm
Shopping trolley and till - she has a little Waitrose trolley it's very cute! Her ELC one fell apart within a few weeks
Easel

My DD (3 now but was 2 when she got it) loves the Lego Duplo ice cream making set. Also a Melissa & Doug puzzle set where the puzzle pieces are bugs and you use a magnetic 'net' to catch them. But the biggest hit from last Christmas, which is complete tat but she adores, is this toy where the penguins walk up the stairs and go sliding down a sort of helter-skelter thing... It might have something to do with the jolly (loud) music, but she still plays with it at least once a week...

dustybinlydia · 01/10/2014 10:20

Playdoh
Bath Toys
Stickle Bricks or similar
Mr Potato Head

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 01/10/2014 11:14

I'd love to get her a play kitchen but we just don't have the room unfortunately!

What sort of baking stuff does your dd like like?

And is the wow stuff good quality dusty? It's a good price vs happyland! Do you know if they are compatible?

Thank you all so much, anyone with anymore ideas? Birthday and Christmas so close is a curse!!

I've got some Wow Toys ready to be given as Christmas presents, so they haven't been played with yet. They LOOK sturdy though, and have some good reviews on Amazon.

I am not sure if they are compatible with Happyland. I wouldn't like to say for sure.

It's in Home Bargains at the moment. I bought the Alfie's Animal Adventure set for £6.99 and, a smaller, Rock 'n' Ride Ralph set for £3.99. It looks great for that price.

They had a farm tractor set for £6.99, and a little set with a racing driver and car for £3.99 as well, but I didn't get those.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 01/10/2014 11:50

Wow! I need to get to home bargins, I've never seen one but I assume they must be online?
Are they just non branded happy land? I'm hoping so!! You can never really tell online!

dustybinlydia · 01/10/2014 12:00

Home Bargains do have a website, but their stock changes frequently and so the Wow stuff might not be on there.

Wow toys are similar to Happyland. I think if your dd likes Happyland she would like them.

If you're close to Letchworth, that's the branch I got mine from

princesscupcakemummyb · 01/10/2014 14:03

my dd is 3 next month shes getting

( tablet tesco hudl)
( art things shes very into)
( pratical table and chairs needs a new set) but boring
disney store princess sofia toys i usually go mad but i thought i bought her so much last year that she got bored of opening the toys honest Hmm

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 01/10/2014 18:30

I'm not a massive fan of tablets for children, but I'm sure by next year il have changed my mind! Good idea about the table and chairs though.. Not sure we have anywhere to put them :/

sand pit or water table for outside so you don't end up forking out more money in the summer.

balance bike

brio

craft stuff. Just sticker books and pom poms and stuff she can muck around with with a glue stick.

animals. variety of good quality plastic ones. scleich type. somewhere had really good prices recently, think it was a website called toys and learning. Anyway they will last forever and get played with in the bath, in the sandpit and all sorts.

duplo. Big basic box of bricks, plus stuff like the zoo and maybe or the emergency vehicles. Can be added to year on year.

Good luck. 2 of mine a3te Christmas and Jan. The volume of stuff in our house roughly quadruples at that time of year Grin . Still, at least that is then it for a year. mostly. Except pesky ds2 in March.

IAmAPaleontologist · 01/10/2014 18:40

little table is very, very useful though if you have a corner to tuck it into. means you can pop it near a shelf with all her playdough and craft stuff on and she can be independent with it instead of having to ask for help getting it to the big table and you can let her paint etc and not have to clear up all her projects before meals. Also good for fuzzy felt pictures or puzzles they don't want to put away for some vitally important reason.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 01/10/2014 21:12

Any good suggestions for table and chairs? Ideally two chairs, ds (9wo) will want one eventually!!

Ds has some wow toys but tbh I wasn't hugely impressed - he managed to break the racing car mechanism is about 5 mins (so it doesn't zoom when you let go IYSWIM) and he was just playing not trying to break it or being rough.

It's also not compatible with happy land. Shame as I had high hopes!

Ds loves brio, duplo, Playmobil (we have some happy land too but I think pm will last longer and more interesting.) toy kitchen - you can get small table top ones and fold up ones I'm sure. Might be worth investigating? Books!

For Christmas he wants a Playmobil pirate ship and helicopter.

Ikea for table and chairs!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 01/10/2014 21:15

We have the IKEA set. Plain wood, two chairs, comes untreated so you could paint/decoupage it if ypu wanted. Im tempted to paint the table top of mine in balckboard paint so dd can do crafts at it too.

Lovelydiscusfish · 01/10/2014 22:24

We have the Ikea table and chairs too - it's great. Dd uses it for craft, as the table top is wipe clean.
For 2-3 year old would recommend;
Happyland
Orchard Games
Baby doll and accessories
Tea set

iloveholidays · 01/10/2014 22:57

I would go for baby doll and buggy :)

mammmamia · 01/10/2014 23:06

Baby doll - I got DD Baby Annabel when she was 2 and she's now 4 and it's still one of her favourite toys.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 02/10/2014 12:42
