What time do you eat on Christmas Day?

I'm hosting my first christmas this year. This is our fourth christmas as a family and the first time we will be staying at home to eat.

Probably a bit early to be thinking about this yet, but I don't know what time to serve the main christmas meal (Turkey ect)

What time do you have yours?

We have ours somewhere between three and four.

abbieandtj · 19/09/2014 09:44

About three fourish :)

MadeInChorley · 19/09/2014 09:47

5ish. We have a huge champagne brunch in the morning, skip lunch (and much on selection boxes instead) and then have Christmas dinner around 5pm. Saves getting up with the larks to put the turkey in the oven. It also works for those really young children - it's about their tea time and after naps etc

TheOnlyPink · 19/09/2014 09:48

Between 3 and 4 here too! Couldn't face such a big meal earlier than that, but any later and people would start picking and spoil appetites!

M27J5M · 19/09/2014 09:50

About 4ish for my family

financialwizard · 19/09/2014 09:51

We eat ours at around 1230 but that's because in the afternoon we have more relations turn up for snacks.

snappycow · 19/09/2014 09:54

three I think - because we usually have a late breakfast.

GOD IM SO EXCITED ABOUT CHRISTMAS!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/09/2014 09:57

Starts after dark (so I can use candles on the table)
Finishes before Dr Who ('tis the law in our house) Wink

JuniperTisane · 19/09/2014 09:59

At mum and dads - 3ish. Lasts hours and lots of food and drink is consumed.

At pils - 1pm strict. Not usually any booze. Just like any other mealtime. Finished and cleared up by 2pm.

GloriousGloria · 19/09/2014 10:00

Yes about three or fourish.

We normally have quite a large brunch too which consists of lots expensive treats.

This year we may go out though (if I can convince DS to get out of his new onesie and put normal clothes on)

MrsPnut · 19/09/2014 10:01

We have ours at 1ish, we only have a very light breakfast and we like a picky supper so the main event has to be near lunchtime.

It does take us a few hours though and there is plenty of alcohol.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 19/09/2014 10:03

If my Mum or Sister are hosting, then around 1/2ish because we don't open presents until after lunch. If we're at MILs then later - maybe 3 or 4? I've never done Christmas at home so I have no idea what we would do then!

CMOTDibbler · 19/09/2014 10:04

Main course at 12.30/1, pudding choice at 5, picky stuff at 7.30. DH and I like to spread it out, and nothing pleases ds more than a meal solely of pudding

PureMorning · 19/09/2014 10:04

About one but there's breaks between the courses and dessert will be about 5ish

WalkingWolf · 19/09/2014 10:12

Wow lots of answers already. Thank you for replying.

ILs and my DPs are very similar as they both have theirs about 12/1 and it's rushed and over within 30/40 mins. They aren't very 'In' to christmas.

I like the idea of having a brunch and main meal about 3/4.

Smile Thanks everyone.

We have starters (ooh posh me) about 2:30ish and main course around 3. Lots to eat and drink and nibbles all day, last year was the 5/6 yr running I'd bought a Xmas pud and everyone was too full to eat it. I normally find them at the back of the cupboards around August time. I can't wait!!

Tinkerisdead · 19/09/2014 10:13

We eat at 2pm so that we peckish enough by evening for a big cheese board when the good telly starts!

AnnOnymity · 19/09/2014 10:22

About 5. We eat a decent breakfast and graze in chocolate during the day. I don't like eating a big meal or drinking at lunchtime.

123Jump · 19/09/2014 10:29

You all eat so late! Can I ask if you have young children? Ours range from 2yo-10yo, and we have lunch at 12.30/1pm. That way it is finished early, we can clear up and enjoy the rest of the day. Watch movies, play with all the new stuff, go for a walk, sit by the fire....then turkey and stuffing sandwiches for tea, yum!
I couldn't be bothered with the faff of tidying up later in the day, I like it done early so we can relax.

123Jump · 19/09/2014 10:30

I should add that we have Christmas Day just ourselves, so DH and I don't really drink until evening when kids are in bed.

pettyprudence · 19/09/2014 10:38

We have christmas dinner around 6pm with lots of candles and then ds (3.6y) and dd (6m) go to bed afterwards and its adult time! The morning is spent eating a big long breakfast and opening gifts, and then cooking in the afternoon while we play with new toys. Maybe a walk around lunch time. No rush for a set time. Although to be fair, there are so many of us, there is always someone around to fart about basting the turkey, peel spuds etc... I don't do any of the cooking myself - I oversee and delegate Grin

MrsBungle · 19/09/2014 10:42

I always aim for 3 and we end up having it around 4! I never get my timings right!

poolomoomon · 19/09/2014 10:47

We used to have it around 3 but this year I've decided I'd prefer to have it when it's dark outside so we can light candles and have it be all cosy and nice Smile. So it'll be around 5-5.30 this year. It's Christmas DINNER not lunch, at lunch time we have something very light to save our stomachs for dinner.

chanie44 · 19/09/2014 10:52

My family eat around 3ish. In laws much later. I remember eating Xmas dinner at 8pm once - I was beyond hungry by that point.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 19/09/2014 10:55

Around 1-2ish, after a late breakfast, and then picking on selection boxes etc. We have a light starter, then the meat & all the usual trimmings. Pudding served around 3:30ish I guess (after HMTheQ), and then there's left overs & picky bits available for supper for those that want them.
