How much is spent on you/do you spend on them for Christmas?

Based on what everyone has said on here, I think we will be cutting down on what we spend on her.

Sons 24' now usually designer jumper/shirt. Socks/undies, after shave, some chocs. DP gives him £50

MsVanRein · 14/09/2014 20:40

I am mid-twenties and my parents spend about £250 at Christmas and about £100 on birthday which is a week later. They spend about £200 on DS but not as much on my DP as he is very hard to buy for!

I'm 36, and my parents spend around £150 on me, around £50 on dh, and around £50 on dd's presents, plus they put £200 into her isa. They are pretty wealthy, though! Dh's parents spend about £100 on him, and about £50 each on me an dd.

FortyFacedFuckers · 14/09/2014 20:46

My mum & dad spent around £250 on me & the same for DS and around £100-150 on my DP the same for my sis & family. My PILS spend around £20 on me & DP

insanityscratching · 14/09/2014 20:51

We spend about £200 (not including stockings) on ds's aged 27 and 25 and dd 21 because they are working and could buy what they wanted anyway. We spend a lot more on ds aged 19 who is still in education and has autism.

chanie44 · 14/09/2014 21:32

Mid 30s. We get the following spent from my parents: me £50,OH £20 and the children up to £60.

MrsAmaretto · 14/09/2014 22:15

Mum & my sister & I did a £15 max spend on each other last year, and she (my mum/granny) spent what she wanted on grandkids

306235388 · 14/09/2014 22:36

I'm early 30s I get £50 from in laws about the same plus little things from my parents and then I'm not sure maybe £50-75 from dh and the kids.

LBOCS · 14/09/2014 23:49

DH and I are both 30.

DM spends between £100-300 on me (us) depending on what it is - for example she bought us a new front door last year (v. Expensive). We're very lucky; she says she's trying to reduce her assets before she needs to go into a home.

She'll probably spend about £30 on DD, she's only going to be 2 and doesn't have very expensive taste yet.

DH and I spend about £150 on each other. Except for this year as they were big birthdays.

Lally112 · 14/09/2014 23:54

I'm 29, DH spends a couple hundred on me and I on him, hes 31 (we save up all year and take extra shifts to make sure we get something really nice) but lose track of what gets spent on kids. I don't have family really on my side so no presents to buy there but MiL and FiL about £50 pounds each on present, BiL about 70 pounds on his because he is still only 15 and DHs grandparents its about 25 each.

inchoccyheaven · 15/09/2014 00:49

My parents spent about £20 to £30 each on me and dc and tiny bit less on stbexh. Usually just chose things from our Amazon wish lists. Ex and I would probably spend about £100 on each other unless something major wanted.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/09/2014 07:09

My husband n I used to spend £100 on each other plus stocking of no more than£20.

We now spend £50 on each other, £20 from little one and a stocking

My mum spends about £30 joint on us and my dad the same
Fil spends about £25 joint on us
Mil about£30 joint

We have a 4yr old and a baby due Nov and would rather money was spent on them we really don't need anything in fact fil buys us a massive bone in gammon n tin sweets every year much more useful!!

JadeJ123 · 15/09/2014 07:34

My mum & step dad give me dh £200 each for Christmas and DSD £150 and then about £180 for birthday.
Mil & fil spend about £180 on DSD and then give me and dh £100 bot christmas & birthdays.
My dear brother gives us £100 each and buys DSD a present.
We spent about £280 on both my mum & step dad.
About £70 on mil & fil.
£160 on my dear brother
And DSD about £600 for Christmas and £160 for her birthday

awsomer · 15/09/2014 07:53

I love Christmas!!!

I'm 27 soon to be 28 arghh

We set limits, so I'll get £25 spent on me by a few family members. (Although some of us are better at sticking to it than others. My mum definitely went way over that last year.)
My OH and I spend about £30 on each other.
My dad and his DP give me £50.
My PIL gave me a mug. Not that I'm not bitter or anything...

birdfeeder · 15/09/2014 13:13

I'm early 30s and my parents spend up to £20 on me (usually less). Their joint income is under £17k so I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything more. For the dc (mine and my siblings' dc) they just get a chocolate selection box each from my parents.

I spend about £20 each on my siblings, although the gifts I get are often 'worth' twice that or more due to bargain hunting. DH and I spend about £100 on each other (but often semi-practical stuff that we'd get anyway).

My PIL are well-off and very generous though - I get £100 cash plus about £100 worth of toiletries/accessories every year.

coffeetofunction · 15/09/2014 14:09

I'm in that braket. £20 at Christmas off my mother...£50-60 off mother in law.... They both live on very different budgets tho

Pollywallywinkles · 15/09/2014 18:55

Some very mixed responses here. Thank you for sharing.

I'm surprised by how many peoe get different present values compared to their husbands? Both my parents and dh parents treat us both the same and give us the exact amount - I though most did that once married.

amy83firsttimer · 15/09/2014 19:44

I'm 31 and married. My parents spend around £50 on my DH and anything up to around £200 on me. We have one child on the way so I imagine this year will be the last time they'll be so generous.

Fairylea · 15/09/2014 19:49

Wow this is quite interesting :)

I get £20 ish from my mum in gifts. My dad is absolutely useless at remembering anything other than Christmas (never sends birthday cards for me or dc at all) so he just sends a sort of combined present cheque for "all of us" for about £150-200 at Christmas. Him and mum have been divorced 20 years.

I never understand dhs family. They all tell their mum and dad what they want and they get it! Literally word for word on the list. I hate the lack of surprise / choosing the gift. All seems a bit weird to me!

PrincessOfChina · 15/09/2014 19:55

I'm 34. DH and I usually set a limit, it's usually around £100 each but had been as low as £40.

DH's parents usually spend around £200-300 on us plus a few sticking filler type gifts. They spend around £200 on DD.

My DM spends around £150 on me, £50 on DH and around £200 on DD.

My DGM and Aunt&Uncle (childless) combine to give us cash. We each get £100 and a chocolate orange. DD probably gets another £30 of little gifts from them.

HumblePieMonster · 15/09/2014 19:56

daughter and son in law are 32 and 31. they spend more on me than I do on them and their almost-three year old. they have more money. I'd spend more if I could.

Pollywallywinkles · 15/09/2014 20:37

Interesting comment Jamtoast. I personally can't see myself ever spending the same amount on any future husband of DD unless I'm only spending a small amount on each of them. I certainly don't spend anywhere near the amount on DDs partner as I spend on her.
