Whatsonemore I ordered the same Thorntons hamper as you and it arrived today. One box was best before the end of October 2014 so we'll give that as a birthday present and a couple of bags were best by end of December 2014. But everything else was 2015 dates so we were pleased and will be splitting the hamper for Christmas presents.

kiwi I ordered one of the anna coronation dresses for dd. She is a very small age 5 and is generally in a 4-5 size. I ordered the age 6 and at the moment it is possibly a bit long so should be perfect for xmas. I actually got it from ebay but from china and it is really lovely!

I didn't need an advent calendar until I saw the yankee candle ones, now I REALLY need one!!

I've just been to Sainsburys and got some of the little pull back camper vans for 25p instead of £2.50 each. I usually have about 20+ people for a sit down lunch in the week after Christmas, all ages from 5-80, and tend to have something on each place setting to provide a bit of amusement and decoration. Last year it was fingerlights. This year I thought these would work well both to have silly raves plus to be decorated by sharpies. Not worth £2.50 but perfect at 25p.

They also had loads of the back to school stuff down to half price or more. And I suspect that some bits will go lower still if they are still there in a dew days time. One thing that was good was a ream of HP a4 paper for £2.50. I've got one for each dc and they will love having their own paper at that price. Plus a couple for me for everyday usage!

kiwi I ordered 3 up for growing room between now and Xmas and odd sizes. Figure I can tack up long hems/sleeves.

(my oldest is a size 8, 7yo though, so might have been a bit cautious)
