I work in retail. The last 2 years have involved mad dashes round town after working all day with some horrible people taking out their Christmas woes on you and spending 73 billion hours waiting in queues and trying to avoid the crowds!

So I want to be organised by the first, nothing left to buy and only wrapping and decorating to worry about.

Anyone else up for the challenge?

I'm with you in the Baileys front dollybean Smile

In an ideal world, I'll wait til DH is away (he's a bit of a scrooge), light the fire, break out the ice and get wrapping with a massive glass of Baileys in hand!

It's ridiculous how much I'm looking forward to doing that!

I'm totally and utterly done now. It'll take all my will power to stay away from Amazon tomorrow. ......

I have ordered my final gift this morning. So other than waiting for a couple of deliveries, I'm done.

Grin Tree I've had similar with patients turning up and we had no electricity due to a power cut that took out the entire street,
No lights, no sterilisor, no chair, no phones (this was the days before mobiles)

Electronic doors not working and complete lack of light along the entire street should have been a clue , mmm?

I was parked on Reception to tell people what was happening while the Clinic Manager tried to find out what was happening:

"I'm afraid we're unable to open a the moment there's a powercut"

"But I've got an appointment, how longs the power off for"?

"I don't know, the Manager is trying to find out. There's been a powerline cut, could be 3-4 hours. Your best bet is to phone back this afternoon"

"Can't you phone me"

"We can't phone out, but you can phone in"

"How did the Manager phone"

"Mobile. Her mobile" (before they asked to be phoned with her phone)

A few minutes later (and repeating the same information) a patient wanted to know why I couldn't hold my clinic in the waiting room.

"It's light enough" they said,

I have no sterile instruments, no light, no patient chair , and - vitally important- no privacy in the Waiting Room Hmm

Well today I have bought my candles and a couple of chairs. Sorted. <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Smile" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/smile-iCO8d7ST.png">

So today I was on self checkout, had closed 4 out of 5 and left one while I was helping a lady. She remembers she needs something else and asks for some advice so I take her to the aisle and start discussing what she needs.

We can hear someone shouting "helllloooo??" But think nothing of it and continue our discussion.

Then there is a shout "hello?? Anyone working on self checkout?" But as I am already with someone I can't go.

She gradually gets louder and louder to the point she is screaming

The customer I'm with says "please stay here, I'm worried for your safety" Shock

I then see the store manager and another manager coming to see what is going on... They had been downstairs in the managers office with the door closed!!!!!

I don't really know what the outcome of the woman's drama as she had gone by the time we'd sorted the nice customers query out but I was completely Shock at the sxituation !

Holfin · 30/11/2014 21:14

Well I posted here on the 16th August saying I would be done by 1st December and got my final present today ! Just got a bit more wrapping to do and the food to sort now Smile

BiddyPop · 01/12/2014 18:53

Almost there, but not quite. I have 6 presents yet to get, but plan on getting most if not all of those at the National Craft Fair on Friday. I have wrapped most of what is bought already. And the diary is filling up nicely with fun things rather than organizing and stress things. (Although there are a few appointments to be covered yet).

My aim this week and next week is to either do grocery shopping off peak (late evening mid week) or internet delivery. I shouldn't need a huge amount this month in general. Maybe 1 big shop the weekend of 19th, and run into M&S on Christmas Eve for whatever turkey is on the shelves (we get into city centre one relatively early and there's always loads of choice so we always regret having ordered ahead in local supermarket).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/12/2014 17:20

Not done yet, my DD hasn't been well poor girl so I wasn't able to go out midweek.
So I'm planning a dawn raid on the shops tomorrow

Well as long as I'm in pole position to get to the shops I need. Smile

Some eBay bits on their way.
Sainsbury shop planned
Waitrose shop planned.

Quick scoot round M&S
