We need a new thread to continue the very successful countdowns of 2013 and 2012.

And before anyone does the Hmm face (or Xmas Hmm face ) take a look at some of the 'Panic Threads' at the end of December when people were "Twitching" and stressing.

Organisation is key.

(I just need to find somewhere that'll work out how many days it is Grin )

Just checking in!

I ordered some Christmas stuff from Sue Ryder which arrived yesterday - they have loads of lovely stuff, some which was on sale. The thing I was most excited about was a little fairy door which I will attach to a skirting board and our Elf of the shelf will come out of on the 1st!! I really, really love the Elf on the shelf thing. DH gave me the usual Hmm face but I know he secretly loves it all.

I am on maternity leave now so have plenty of time to plan my Christmas extravaganza!!

Smilesandpiles · 29/07/2014 20:59

How bad is it, that I spent 2 hours up in the loft looking at Christmas decorations, thinking about where to put them on the tree, making a list of what else I needed and listening to Christmas carols on the Ipod?

I think I need help.

Burning Warm Woollen Mittens at the moment. Well, kind of. I had a jar where the wick had burnt down to nothing but a lot of wax left. It's now in a tart burner instead and the jars cleaned out and on the dressing table with cotton buds in a smaller jar and cotton wool balls in another.

I've had an idea and wondered if I could run it past you all.

You know those net lights that you hang in the window? What if I wrapped the christmas tree in one of those? Surely you get better coverage and some of them are battery operated so you don't have to find a socket...Good idea or not?

Have started my bargain shopping off with a pair of gingham pjs and slipper boots from The White Company for £12 in the sale. Very chuffed!

I've put net lights on an outdoor tree Smiles so it should work on a Christmas Tree but you'd need to spend a while tucking it all in neatly.

Are you going to get enough lights on a net and will they be bright enough?

Just hijacking... 70 according to the font of all domestic knowledge that is Martha Stewart, for maximum and even light coverage you need to wrap each branch. May need another 20 sets of lights though, but sure it'll be worth it!

Here's a link with a how to guide:

Smilesandpiles · 30/07/2014 10:48

Oooh, I'll give it a go then.

Smilesandpiles · 30/07/2014 10:48

I'll have a look on ebay and get the bigger size so it should wrap around twice.

0pheliaBalls · 31/07/2014 19:21

Smiles I've done this for a few years now, I have a 6ft tree and it looks fab Smile

Smilesandpiles · 31/07/2014 19:32

Oooh thanks. What size net did you use? My trees around the 7-8ft mark.

My net is about 5ft square I think, not sure how many lights. Bought it ages ago and lost the box almost immediately! Think it might be 200 though.

Damn you pintrest, I now want to make a tree skirt. So a question for you, does it have to cover the tree stand or can I have it to stand the whole thing on IYSWIM. Our tree stand is tall so will look a little odd covering it, I would like something to put the presents on. I really should stay away from pintrest it is my Nemesis Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/08/2014 10:52

nick I lost many many hours of my life making a tree skirt years ago.
Yes it is lovely (kit from QVC) but there were lots of tiny bits to cut out, sew sequins on, and tiny beads. It was a Polar Express with teddy bears Grin

Last year I bought a burgandy and gold tree skirt which has a velcro fastening (to go round the pot)
With the Teddy Bear one, I couldn't bear (BEAR - see what I did there ?) to cut it, so we put the tree on it.
It fills the space before and after the presents Smile

Claires has a sale on at the moment. Stuff from 50p and free delivery over a certain amount

Just got DD some stocking fillers for £12.50. God knows what it should have been full price.

lostlalaloopsy · 02/08/2014 10:26

I would love to make a tree skirt , but maybe this is a stupid question - do I need a sewing machine? Craft is not my strong point!!

caramelwaffle · 02/08/2014 18:57

I've made mine out of, well...wadding, to look like snow from the pound shop

But that is so last year and a few years before darling.

(If something needs edging, you could always cut it in a pretty - but uneven - pattern instead if you cannot provide a professional finish)
