We need a new thread to continue the very successful countdowns of 2013 and 2012.

And before anyone does the Hmm face (or Xmas Hmm face ) take a look at some of the 'Panic Threads' at the end of December when people were "Twitching" and stressing.

Organisation is key.

(I just need to find somewhere that'll work out how many days it is Grin )

I've got a little bit of present money in the bank ready. Hoping to grab a few bargins and if there's anything left I may get myself a yankee candle that they always have on offer.

caramelwaffle · 09/06/2014 20:13

"Christmas in July"?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2014 22:03

Watch this space caramel - by the 20th of July I'll be giddy with excitment Grin

Only trouble is , they try to re-hash some of their Clearance tat by giving it the Christmas in July title but I'm not conned [ink]

They do some nice lights (prelit wreath and prelit swag with timers . )

But what is Christmas in July, 70?

Is it a t.v. shopping thing?

caramelwaffle · 10/06/2014 17:11

I can't wait for Christmas in July I may have booked the days off they have lovely lights and wreaths. I got my mum a lovely bowl/cup/plate thing last year (it's nicer than it sounds) for Christmas. I am very excited!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2014 11:50

Grin I bought my prelit wreath as a TSV (Todays Special Value) about 3 years ago and as long as I pack it away and take the batteries out, it is still in great nick (it is an outdoor one, has a timer so is on 4pm-10pm ) it is lovely to come home and see it there.
Last year I got a long prelit swag to go onto the mantlepiece.

They used to do lots of Mr Christmas (from the USA) decorations which are gorgeous but I haven't seen for ages.
And Lindy Bowman boxes/bags (hope they do this year)

I have watched and meh the lat couple of years but I can potter about (pretending to tidy up) and plan Grin

(They might do 24th/25th again but I'll be at work on the 24th Sad - will need to sneak a look at T'Interweb)

I got a bit carried away on eBay and brought a Christmas village complete with diddy train that goes round.

I always forget we live in a tiny flat with no storage, no idea what I'm going to do with it till December

lostlalaloopsy · 12/06/2014 10:14

Every year I mean to watch Christmas in July on QVC, and I always forget. But since I'll be on maternity leave I'll be tuning in - I really want a prelit garland thing. Dh will have his precious World Cup and I will have QVC - sounds fair to me!!

Aw, love the Christmas Train Village ( will have a quick look on eBay later) , alot of the nice decorations come from the USA I've noticed.

We bought a wreath for the front door from a florist 4 years ago. I had dropped DH off to the aircoach, and DD and I popped into the florist at the stop to buy, expecting to pay €25-30. It was €65! I gulped. But I was sad, I had the money, and I didn't have time to make one myself. I didn't admit to DH how much it had cost until he was home safe (it was the "year of the big snow" and he had to travel from London via ferry in Holyhead instead of flying).

I had intended taking it apart and saving it safely in bits. But it was too much faff to do that right after Christmas, so just put it into the attic space as it was, to dismantle next December and rebuild fresh. But it was still quite green and live looking then - so I hung it straight back up! Put it away safe again, and it came out looking dried, yes, but still vibrant enough 2 years ago and again last year. I may eventually have to dismantle it this or next year, and remake with fresh holly - but as it had been made with holly, dried cones, cinnamon sticks, fake apples, and a lovely green edged red ribbon - it still works very well! I never though that €65 would be so worth it! Most of the wreaths sold locally are full of fresh pine and ivy, so they can't be kept that way.

A pre-lit on though, might be worth considering when this one is no longer usable.

I've been looking at my spreadsheet and starting to twitch. The sales are starting here too. And the National Concert Hall has tickets on sale for the live "Snowman" (they show the film with a love narrator and live orchestra) or "Carols by Candlelight" concerts - I am going to buy those today too.

I haven't yet addressed the question of where we will be this year - but as we travelled last year, I want to stay put this year. And I think DH will accept what I tell him as we all need that quiet time this year.

Gutted, house of Fraiser messed up my order. Instead of the Shamrock I got the nutcracker - which I'm not too keen on. I'll keep it anyway.

I'm going to start wrapping on Monday I think. Wrap and label the things I've got already so it's one less thing to do nearer the time so I can concentrate on other things.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/06/2014 15:41

Smiles do you wrap and label as you go along?
(You are very organised , I'm usually wrapping about the 20th, once I left it to Christmas Eve, never again)

I set up the ironing board, big rolls of Costco paper, scissors and tape on a dispensor.
Coffee, a nice Christmas programme, peace , 2 baskets to put them in ( Stocking and Christmas presents seperate)
I use a different paper for each person but their presents are all wrapped in their 'own' paper so no need for tags)

DD was eyeing up some Gingerbread bath stuff in Body Shop today "Oh you need to buy me that for Christmas"

Smilesandpiles · 15/06/2014 15:43

Yes. I do.

Wrap and label with a bow. I also write a list so I keep track of what I've bought and to make sure the kids have the same number of presents each and so I don't buy the same thing twice.

WanttogotoDisney · 15/06/2014 15:48

I am almost all sorted: 12 tickets to see Disney on Ice on 28 December booked and paid for. No wrapping required. 6 kids plus parents will be very happy. Just need something extra for my own DC to unwrap and something for DH. I am not going mad this year for my DC. We have a huge family and they get from everyone else and it is too much. Last year's Disney princess dresses were a hit.
