Do you make sure your dc's get all the items on their letter to Santa?

We finished all our Christmas shopping a few weeks ago. Did letter to Santa last week & DS (3.4) asked me to put 4 items on it - 2 toys, a game & a pack of chocolate coins. We'd already bought the toys & chocolate coins, but hadn't bought the game.

Its a cross between a board game & buckaroo - looks fun but reading reviews think might still be a bit tricky for DS to play until he's a bit older, so not overly keen to buy it. Plus we've already spent plenty on the presents we've already got.

But.... am remembering last year when he didn't get a particular item & went on about it all day I don't want to disappoint him & am having a 'should I buy it?' wobble

Have you ever NOT bought a much wanted item they had asked Santa for? Did they forget about it when they saw all their other presents? clutches at straws & kicks self for not having done letter to Santa earlier Hmm

No, Father Christmas can't deliver that much to any child as his sleigh needs to deliver to all the children in the world.

They've gotten the most coveted items and then some!

JamInMyWellies · 15/12/2013 21:08

No way otherwise DS1 would be getting a motorised BMWx5! Smyths toy catalogue has a lot to answer for.

We tell them DS 6 & 5 that Santa will not get everything on their lists he will choose a few things and they may get other stuff that Santa thinks is cool.

MikeChristmasTreeIsLit · 15/12/2013 21:18

No way!

Lists /letters are just a guide for santa. It gives him ideas.

Dd1 is the only one doing a lisr this year and hers is ridiculous.

She is 9 and wants

An iPhone
One direction (tickets? Dolls? Who knows! )
An xbox one
Call of duty
GTA (ffs!)
2 extra xbox controllers
A football
2 dolls and a double pram
And a bmx

From that list she is getting precisely nothing!

insanityscatching · 15/12/2013 21:29

This year dd has asked for a Furby and Beano and Dandy annuals so she has everything. Last year she wrote three sides of A4 paper and so didn't. Dd knows the list is for ideas, it's not an order form.

lovelyredwine · 15/12/2013 21:33

No, but the thing at the top of dd's list is a unicorn so it's down to impossibility rather than cost.

WipsGlitter · 15/12/2013 21:35

We list 3/4 things and then ask for a few surprises. Am a bit worried as Santa hasn't got him the first thing on the list - but my mum has got him it.

MummyPig24 · 15/12/2013 21:36

Ds brought home a letter he had written at school which had on it nothing that we have actually got him. Fortunately that day grandma had brought over a special "letter to Santa" kit so I suggested we write it and I guided him in the right direction. Rather than a quad bike! I asked if he wouldn't like a new bike as his is too small. Dd would agree to anything I said so I made a few suggestions and she went with it!

MerryMarigold · 15/12/2013 21:40

We have a chat before about Santa not liking greediness. And to just ask for a couple of things. This year ds1 (8) asked for a couple of things and changed his mind TWICE. The second one I said it was too late and I'd already posted it. However, I have got him a small bit of the second thing he wanted (Hexbug) and 1 of the 'original' toys. I think he will be very happy and will have forgotten what he asked for. Ds2 only asked for 1 thing, so he will be expecting it.

NaturalBaby · 15/12/2013 21:42

I bought all my dc's presents in October. Now they have written lists and visited Santa so I've just discovered they have requested random items that I obviously haven't bought them.

I have had words with DS1 about the fact that Santa probably won't be giving him an elf for Christmas.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 15/12/2013 21:45

No. Ds put 8 things on his letter ranging from a dog (no chance) to moshi's. He's actually receiving 2 things from his list and the rest is stuff he hasn't asked for.

omama · 15/12/2013 21:56

Phew am reading this with relief! Thanks all for replying.

Much as I would like to buy it I just don't think its suitable yet, so think we'll go with the 'Santa can't bring it all line', if he asks on the day. I've been trying to say that anyway, but still can't help feeling a twang of guilt Wink

Thanks again

No not at all. She knows it's a wish list and Father Christmas chooses off it what he thinks she'd like the best. Though I do try to get what she's asked for the most (this year Monster High doll) but she's still mentioning things now.... and I've well and truly finished !!

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 15/12/2013 22:07

Most definitely and absolutely NOT because the anticipation of what he might bring you off your list is the best bit!! The excitement to see what has been chosen... it's nowhere near as much fun if it's treat like a shopping list and you know you will get everything?!

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 15/12/2013 22:10

lovely DD1 once asked for an Invisibility cloak. I did in all honesty google to find out if such a thing existed. NASA were at the time developing a prototype...

Mattissy · 15/12/2013 22:13

Simply, no! Lol

Clandy · 15/12/2013 22:27

Probably not always but this is the first year dd has been old enough for a 'list'. She only asked for one thing but I suggested 2 would be a good idea so Santa could choose which he thought she would like best. As it happens she will get both this year as they were only little things and the list was heavily guided by me!

UniS · 15/12/2013 22:30

nope.

I do steer his letter to include some generic stuff tho and he will get some of the requests.

trixymalixy · 15/12/2013 22:35

No!! Last year DS asked for a Wii and an Xbox 360. That was never going to happen.

They have both been told that Santa doesn't bring everything on their list.

I may have spent Xmas eve last year making a brown jumper for DD's barbie, and have scoured the Internet looking for an ice sword though...

ziggiestardust · 15/12/2013 22:37

I have tried; if he comes out with anything else now though I won't really have the time to get to the shops what with work etc!

He's asked for a woody doll, a Jessie doll and a cowboy hat. He has got those. Last year on Christmas Eve though, he asked for a scooter... Confused I felt really bad but obviously there was no way I could get hold of it in time!

He didn't notice though, and it was forgotten and not mentioned at all on the day.

celestialsquirrels · 15/12/2013 22:49

My lot ask for between 1-3 things and know they will get one (or none if they ask for stuff that they aren't allowed - like call of duty for eg). Yes, santa's magic extends to knowing what is banned/too expensive/a bit crap... And they won't get that stuff Grin

VworpVworp · 15/12/2013 23:01

My children always ask for things that don't exist... such as Star Wars Playmobil Hmm or "Something that goes round the outside of a record player while the music is going and also goes up and down" Confused um... you don't have any records, or even a record player, and have probably never seen one in rl... but... Confused

ZombieSanta · 15/12/2013 23:13

No way.

My DTD wants her own pony, her own guinea pig, her own llama Hmm and her own t-Rex. We're getting her none of these.

DS wants a) a million pounds, b) a unicorn and c) a baby brother. He's getting the last but not until March (if all goes well, obviously).

And DTD2 is the only one with an even mildly sensible list. She's getting 3/4 of her list + 1 extra gift. Smile

TreaterAnita · 15/12/2013 23:25

I'm quite impressed that your 3.4 yo has such a clear view of what he wants. My 3.6 yo has expressed various random thoughts (based on the last advert he's seen on Nick Jnr) but otherwise stock response is still 'Thomas' (I'm assuming not actual Thomas as he has 3 already and any more would seem somewhat like overkill).

My goddaughter has written the most optimistic Santa letter, which includes itouch, ipad mini and ipad, just to cover all bases. I'm reliably informed she's getting none of these!

If I were you, and you don't want to buy the game, I'd just say that you spoke to Santa and he said that that was in his list for bigger children, and if he still really wants it next year, he should put it on his list then. But in the meantime Santa has thought of some things he'd like better.

differentnameforthis · 16/12/2013 00:41

DD's give me lists & we buy a few items (they don't get everything) and FC gets them ONE present (that will fit in their stocking) & stocking fillers (usually santa chocs, a soap, a flannel - those expanding ones - etc).

I like my children to know that it is their parents who buy their gifts & spend money on them. This has always been the tradition here. People - gifts, FC stockings.

differentnameforthis · 16/12/2013 00:43

My DTD wants her own pony, her own guinea pig, her own llama hmm and her own t-Rex.

My youngest (5) wants a great white shark..she always makes sure she adds "a real one, not a toy" everytime she asks for it.
