Christmas Breakfast

Was planning on making Overnight Cinnamon Rolls but made them for ds1's birthday today and he doesn't like them Sad. So need to find something else that is yummy but doesn't mean I'm gonna be half an hour in the kitchen by myself on Christmas morning. Ideally it would be prep before and cook last minute sort of things. Any ideas?

chocolate crossiants.. or melted cheese in croissants

crumpets and scrambled egg is quite quick.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2013 09:05

Pancakes!

raisah · 15/12/2013 09:30

Waitrose & my local farm shop have frozen breakfast pastries that you just need to bung in the oven.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 15/12/2013 10:57

I like nigella's christmas morning muffins, or gingerbread muffins.
Not sure whether dcs will though.
Dh will almost certainly bang on about bacon and eggs, which i cba with tbh.
I do love scrambled eggs with or wothout smoked salmon.
So i reckon muffins, or ready made pancakes or pain au chocolat.

tethersend · 15/12/2013 11:00

Champagne and matchmakers.

WutheringTights · 15/12/2013 11:10

A whole selection box? Why not, it's Christmas!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 15/12/2013 11:20

Mmm. Selection box. Xmas Grin

I must admit, before DCs my christmas "breakfast" was very light on actual food Xmas Wink

ChippyMinton · 15/12/2013 11:20

Yes to the Waitrose French pastries - pain au chocolate or raisin, and croissants ready to bake. They have mini ones too.

or American style pancakes with crispy streaky bacon and maple syrup.

thegreylady · 15/12/2013 11:29

My dh does a full cooked breakfast of which I eat selected highlights :) he includes small pieces of fillet steak which he and the boys love and I just don't understand!

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 15/12/2013 12:36

We have bought the waitrose pain au chocolates and pain au raisins for Christmas breakfast, but we have eaten them over the last couple of weekends - they were delicious.
DP and I just made up our minds to have scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and bagels. And a glass of bubbly! I wouldn't ever let my DC munch their way through a selection box even on Christmas morning - I never considered myself as uptight about food, but that just seems gluttenous (sp?) Grin

HotelTangoFoxtrotUniform · 15/12/2013 12:40

We have eggs benedict using Delia Smith's foaming hollandaise which can be made in advance, so all I have to do in the morning is poach some eggs and toast some muffins. The leftover hollandaise can be frozen too!

GeekInThePink · 15/12/2013 12:43

Smoked salmon and champagne maybe with egg

The DC and DH have gammon...no idea why but they do!

BananaNotPeelingWell · 15/12/2013 12:46

Thanks for the posts about the frozen pastries at Waitrose. I've been looking everywhere for something like thatSmile

BIWI · 15/12/2013 12:47

Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon here, with Buck's Fizz.

lookout · 15/12/2013 12:55

Pastries and croissants are out cos ds1 doesn't like them but I agree with Waitrose ones are the best around having tried them all. Pancakes is too much like hard work on Christmas morning and always means they are eating while I am still cooking them to order.

However, I love the idea of bagels, would cream cheese and ham be totally barmy for breakfast? Then dh and I could have smoked salmon on ours. And yy to champagne, though not too much cos we have church in the morning Grin. And the boys will probably have eaten all the chocolate coins before breakfast anyway! Thanks for the ideas, bagels it is!

A fruit salad of mangoes, papaya, passion fruit and some freshly squeezed orange juice. Banana optional extra.

Freshly squeezed orange juice to drink.

MrsClauswearsspanx · 15/12/2013 13:16

If you google "orange sweet rolls" you can find a recipe similar to overnight cinnamon rolls that are similar but taste orangey. Assuming it's the cinnamon your DC didn't like?

Steffanoid · 15/12/2013 13:20

we have champagne and bacon sandwiches on Christmas morning there used to be 5 families that did it on a rota almost and we went to one of the houses every year then one of the years its your turn

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 15/12/2013 13:21

Usually scrambled egg on homemade toast with crispy streaky bacon for meat eaters.

This year I'll hear up some frozen croissants and pain au chocolat as well.

The scrambled egg is equally delicious on a shop brought granary fresh loaf. But I cheat and put mix in a bread maker then sling it in the oven Christmas Eve. Lovely with butter on ce with cheese and pickles and wine then with the eggs for breakfast.

Taffeta · 15/12/2013 13:49

I used to do dippy eggs but its way too much hassle. We have brioche now, with fresh fruit, orange juice and proper coffee.

farrowandbawlbauls · 15/12/2013 14:12

Cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels
Orange bucks fizz

The kids will have
waffles
pancakes
or
cereal
kiddie bucks fizz

BobCrotchstitch · 15/12/2013 14:17

Bacon rolls and Bucks Fizz. Not a huge faff as we have to manoeuvre 5 of us into the shower and out for church by 11 Xmas Confused
Bacon can even keep warm in the oven so people can dive in as and when they are ready.
DS has requested pancakes or cinnamon rolls on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day we are out early so probably just cereal for us (I suspect my DP's will have a fry up in our absence!)

Iheartcrunchiebars · 15/12/2013 14:23

Pancakes shaped like Rudolph (Google) pancake mix made the day before.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 15/12/2013 14:29

Father Christmas always brings my dc a box of festive friends in their stocking so they usually make a start on those and the satsuma for their first breakfast. I figure they are no worse than a lot of breakfast cereals you can buy Grin

Then we quite often have a light cooked breakfast, eg eggs and toast, eggs and bacon etc. And champagne.
