Was planning on making Overnight Cinnamon Rolls but made them for ds1's birthday today and he doesn't like them Sad. So need to find something else that is yummy but doesn't mean I'm gonna be half an hour in the kitchen by myself on Christmas morning. Ideally it would be prep before and cook last minute sort of things. Any ideas?

I'll probably have a couple of sausage rolls, a few roses and maybe

desperateforaholiday · 15/12/2013 14:36

Oops posted too soon, and maybe a turkey wing Grin

msmiggins · 15/12/2013 14:38

Bacon and mushroom roll. Kids have chocolate.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 15/12/2013 17:41

Bagels sound great. Nothing wrong with cream cheese and ham.

farrowandbawlbauls · 15/12/2013 17:47

It has to be naice ham though Xmas Grin

norksinmywaistband · 15/12/2013 17:53

Never have to think about it.... Santa always pops a carton of juice and a one portion pack of the DC favourite but not normally allowed cereal. They tend to munch through that dry while looking at pressies.
The big guy sure saves me some hard work fwink

norksinmywaistband · 15/12/2013 17:54

Sorry meant to say.. at the top of their stockingsXmas Wink

Mrs Claus I think it probably was the cinnamon but he's not that keen on orange either and I'm not taking the risk with something I'm not sure he's gonna like, now. I already felt bad that his birthday breakfast didn't work out right!

Ooh Taffeta that sounds simple and lovely. Might run that one past dh along with the bagels. Greedy to have bagels and brioche?

farrow waffles a good idea too.

BobCrotchStitch there's only 4 of us to get to church but we're hoping to get to the 9.30 service this year so the kids don't have to wait too long for presents and I don't have to wait too long to start drinking proper Grin

I reckon the bagels and cream cheese will win out. Naice ham of course. Goes without saying Wink With perhaps brioche or waffles for the boys. Thanks all for the ideas, very helpful indeed.

DH insists on breakfast before presents on Christmas Day so it will be whatever is quickest! Weetabix I think Grin maybe I will splash out and buy some fresh oj to make it 'special'

RibenaFiend · 15/12/2013 21:51

As a child dad always used to make is all bacon sandwiches to eat whilst we all piled on mum and dad's bed to open our stockings... Then we were dressed in our prelaid out outfits and our teeth done before going downstairs to see if Father Christmas had left presents downstairs too Grin

God my parents were clever. It meant we were all properly fed and ready to leave for church without being dragged away from playing with our main presents which were always downstairs! Smile

Nix01 · 16/12/2013 08:06

I'd seen Christmas tree crumpets and star waffles on the asda website some time ago. I went online to check and they're no longer available :( So I don't know, probably croissants.

wonkylegs · 16/12/2013 08:08

We're having current buns - make on Christmas eve and leave in oven to rise overnight. Cook on Christmas morning which also preheats the oven for the roast.

GhettoPrincess001 · 16/12/2013 08:14

Just like BIWI it's salmon and scrambled eggs and bucks fizz for us. Toast as well.

We start Christmas Day sloshed and pretty much stay that way all day !

lovemycrazykids · 16/12/2013 12:58

never heard of overnight cinnamon rolls...off to google now...2 out of 3 kids love cinnamon!

TheDayOfMyDoctor · 18/12/2013 20:09

We're having nigella's gingerbread muffins (baked the day before) and baked ham & eggs. Easy to do and minimal washing up Grin

TheRealAmandaClarke · 18/12/2013 20:36

I have spent far too much time thinking about this.

I definitely like the idea of some Christmassy muffins baking in the oven on Christmas morning.
Dh and ds love bacon. Combining the two is my dilemma.

Must go and wrap some presents. Xmas Smile

beckslovestimmy · 18/12/2013 20:47

Our traditional breakfast for as long as I can remember is white bread toast and 'real' butter. We have marg/spread all year round so it was always a real treat to have 'proper real' butter. Usually have a glass or two of Buck's Fizz too. Mmmm (even though I moved out long ago I still carry on this tradition and I won't buy real butter until its Christmas Grin)

TheRealAmandaClarke · 19/12/2013 06:11

I like that Becks. Beautifully simple.

I reckon "continental" for Christmas morning (including some home made muffins, mainly for the lovely aroma.) and full on fry up for boxing day (including the ubiquitous bubble and squeak)
I think I may have chosen Xmas Grin. Just got to persuade DH it's the right thing to do Xmas Wink

Sausage sizzle on the beachSmile

EugenesAxe · 19/12/2013 06:27

Ocado stock Waitrose's frozen Pain aux Raisins, which are lovely & bake from frozen in about 20 min; they also do Pain au Chocolat that are nice but with no homage to anything even vaguely nutritious, such as raisins.

Ironically, Waitrose.com only stock the chocolate! DS loves aux raisins so much this has swayed me towards Ocado for my entire shop, otherwise I'd share my custom between the rivals (why do I even give a shit about things like this).

But apart from that, I have already said the Christmas breakfast is traditionally satsuma and chocolate.

Bonkerz · 19/12/2013 06:32

I always make sure there is a selection of prepared fruit out and croissants and pancakes and orange juice. It's a relaxed affair In our home but no presents are opened until something has been eaten!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 19/12/2013 06:34

Ooh and some squirty cream on my coffee.

Xmas Envy of ben5 sausage sizzle on the beach. Hmmmm, need to move to the coast.

HoHoHoMerryMonster · 19/12/2013 08:43

we have croissants and pain au chocolat with posh coffee, orange and apple juice and champagne. also a fresh fruit salad.

mabelbabel · 19/12/2013 09:01

Norks - I am totally stealing the carton of juice and forbidden cereal idea for kids!

BananaNotPeelingWell · 19/12/2013 10:13

On a similar note to the forbidden cereal I remember shopping once with ds and him bemoaning loudly of the fact that he'd never had, and probably would never be allowed to have, a pop tart So I promised we'd have them at Christmas. (As a joke you understand - we do have other things too at Christmas) But I'm always stumped for Christmas breakfast, so I duly produced the forbidden fruit of a box of pop tarts on Chrstmas morning with some fanfare. Hardly smoked salmon is it?BlushGrin Anyway, they were all pretty unimpressed and the remainder of the box kicked around the kitchen till about July when I threw it out and no-one has ever mentioned a pop tart since. I might have a stab at Nigella's Christmas muffins this year though (that sentence actually sounds quite wrong[confused)
