Wrapping presents, how neat?

I'm a bit obsessive about wrapping presents, I have striped paper this year so it can be lined up perfectly, I always fold over exposed edges of the paper and make the folded parts as beat as possible, all the tags are perfectly straight and the bows have to be in exactly te right position above the tag.
All the gifts have to match and all have to be just right, they don't even go under the tree they're hidden till Christmas morning then each person gets a pile.
I get twitchy if they're not right. I even wrap my own presents so they're done right.
Mil-sil-Dh etc just think as long as the paper covers the gift it's fine! I now wrap mils presents too!

I'm not alone in this am I?
How neatly are your present wrapped?

my wrapping is terrible not straight doesn't match. truly shocking. but they are chosen and wrapped with loveGrin Grin

capsium · 07/12/2013 10:56

Not at all, sorry.

4 pieces of tape. 1 piece either end and in middle. 1 piece tape sticks gift tag on. There. Done.

If I want to be poncey I stick some ribbon on to distract from the not neat wrapping.

I don't think I could face it all, if I had to be neat.

I once spent six hours of a night shift in a care home wrapping all the presents for the kids there, luckily they all slept all night so I didnt have much actual work to do lol

I spent a disturbing amount of time wrapping three footballs, although I did insist that in future any balls had to have a box or giftbag, it made me twitch because it took ages to get the folds and tape perfectly neat

capsiumGrin glad I'm not alone in my if you can't see the present then it's fine philosophy

superzero · 07/12/2013 11:00

My wrapping is rubbish,I've got so many things to wrap(3 stockings, and at least 20 other people) that they don't get done perfectly.
I do appreciate beautifully wrapped things though and am always delighted if someone else has made an effort.

capsium · 07/12/2013 11:06

Yep super Children don't care and the adults will be merry anyway. Grin

Drink well that is what I tell myself....

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 07/12/2013 11:06

Mine are all in coordinating paper, so theres a striped, a spotty and a patterned paper all from the same range. Ribbons and bows on most presents but not all, and for the first year ive used stick on tags which im liking.

I have matching gift boxes, pilkow packs and wine bags.

The presents are all under the tree, and have to be the 'right way up' according to the paper, even if the gift inside ends up upside down.

Jbck · 07/12/2013 11:18

Oh Im like you, I plan my colour scheme carefully and my wrapping is very precise.
If presens we receive before the day don't fit in with my colur scheme they go round the back of the pile which is a carefully laid out arrangemnet made to look like they've been casually srrwn under the tree.
I am Jbck, I am a control freak Grin

Jbck · 07/12/2013 11:20

Oh and I buy for about 20 people with only one or two just having one present so thats a lot of parcels. Started doing it in shifts now.

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 07/12/2013 11:27

My ExMIL is so bad at wrapping some times you don't have to unwrap it to see what you have got.

All presents are in the same character wrapping paper with matching stick on tags. Stocking presents are not wrapped and the presents from Santa under the tree have their own Santa paper.

Square presents are neat with just tape to seal them. Odd shaped presents look a mess :)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/12/2013 11:28

Very messy here. Buy for about 80 people though and DD doesn't allow much time for wrapping

cozietoesie · 07/12/2013 11:29

I aim for several different Xmas papers and that's about it. The standard of the wrapping depends entirely on whether I've had a gin or two. Grin

NearTheWindmill · 07/12/2013 11:33

I like the presents to look co-ordinated(ish) under the tree but the wrapping isn't perfect. I hate wrapping presents - it is the worst job in the universe. I get bits of tape stuck to me, it won't tear, I mislay the scissors, I mislay the pen, the labels fall off. HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT. I always have a sherry or three whilst I do it and I always say that next year I will wrap things as I buy them - it never seems to get done before about 23rd.

AdventCalendarsShouldBeHaunted · 07/12/2013 11:34

I used to be a bit like that but now I lets DD 7 wrap everything. She loves it, it's not perfect but I much prefer it this way.

DrinkFromSantasFountain · 07/12/2013 11:35

I wrap at night, last night I was still wrapping at 1am, have loads more to do as well.
There will be about three or four more nights where I start as soon as ds is in bed and keep going till I can't see the tape anymore! Xmas Grin

I love wrapping and I try and wrap well, I do everything up tight with lots of tape (to make Christmas morning last longer), I havn't used ribbon this year though, just cant be bothered.

DameFanny · 07/12/2013 11:39

I use brown paper and string, and it's as neat as the shape allows.

But my personal theory of present wrapping is that you never want the wrapping to be more impressive than the present.

I still remember the excitement of an opulently wrapped and beribboned box that turned out to contain lily of the valley talc. [scarred for life]

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 07/12/2013 11:47

None of that, I make sure no white underside of paper is showing but that's it. No ribbons, no bows, random coloured paper, labels made out of old cards stuck on anywhere. A bit like our Christmas tree really, I like it random and colourful, I think it looks more festive than colour schemes. I can't say I take much notice of how other people do it either when I'm given gifts if I'm honest.

SlightlyDampWellies · 07/12/2013 11:52

My wrapping is awful. DH commented last year that one of Santa's work experience elves must have done it.

lade · 07/12/2013 12:08

I love wrapping, I usually sit down one night before Christmas, with the music on, drink mulled wine and wrap... Bliss!

I love to wrap the presents beautifully, with bows and ribbons and little nick nacks etc, I think it's nice to give over a beautifully wrapped present. And like the op, I fold all the edges over first, so everything is straight and neat. I spend stupid amounts on nice paper, organza ribbon etc...

DH wraps his own presents (he only buys for me and his family) and they're just awful. He's the opposite to me, will use cheap, naff paper, hurriedly wrapped, messily done, no thought out into it whatsoever. The gift looks awful when handed over, but that's his style Smile.

Rumplestiltskinismyname · 07/12/2013 12:11

I'm a pretty neat wrapper, and like scouting out pretty paper (i.e. the lovely stuff they have in paperchase)- but am a bit cross this year, as some of the paper is too thick, and won't stick down nicely with the sellotape. I've got the hump as it is making my wrapping look messy!

raisah · 07/12/2013 14:38

I love wrapping & buying gifts and I am quite good at it particularly, odd shaped presents but I don't get OCD like you OP! Although it is a nice thing to have OCD and get twitchy about.

raisah · 07/12/2013 14:42

I find the best quality paper in terms of weight & designs are the WHSmith & M&S. They are not too heavy or thin and they do a good range of prints and the WHSmiths paper have grid lines on the back.

mumeeee · 07/12/2013 14:43

OP I'm with your DH, MIL and SIL. Christmas presents should be wrapped in cheerfull Christmas paper and don't. have to be all neat and tidy. The person opening the present won't mind if it's not wrapped perfectly.

DrinkFromSantasFountain · 07/12/2013 14:48

I like it to show that I cared enough to make it look nice, I'm mid way through making paper chains with the same paper as my presents are wrapped in so I can wrap it round the piles of presents.

I'm not usually this bad!
