When do you wrap your presents?

I'm currently debating when to wrap up my presents. I usually leave it until just before christmas but I'm wondering if I should do it earlier yo avoid a rush.

So when do you wrap yours?

mummy we pack the neatly in to large boxes and they syill look great come Christmas eve and I am a tad neurotic about wrapping.

WinterWinds · 06/12/2013 21:24

I have learned now to get them wrapped asap after the year I left everything until Christmas eve. Didn't get to bed until 3 am, Never again.
This year I have been wrapping as I buy.

OneLittleLady · 06/12/2013 21:51

I've got some wrapped already and the rest to finish up over the next week or so. Everything has to be done for the weekend before christmas so presents can get taken to the right people ready for christmas morning

soontobeslendergirl · 06/12/2013 21:56

it depends on their age tbh. when the boys were little it was easy just to wrap as we bought and then stash away as they were in bed sleeping early. we had a few fraught years when they went to bed later and were never away long enough to get it done and those years were Christmas Eve years - not good :(

now they are a bit older it is again easier as although in bed pretty late, they go away on camps so I can get whole days to wrap. :)

They were away last weekend so I got everything dug out, wrapped and stashed back under the spare bed. We have a house guest so they wont be in there. Just before Christmas, I'll pop it all into some giant gift bags I have and store behind the spare room door and on Christmas eve I just need to bring it downstairs :)

Stocking stuff is ready just to pour into the stockings when i get them from the loft (2 sets) One to be hung up by the boys and then I just exchange them for the filled ones Wink

That means we have Christmas eve free just to watch a movie and keep the boys up late so they fall asleep quicker and can bring the stash down for the morning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/12/2013 22:06

Used to do it on Christmas Eve when the DCs were tiny, but once they were old enough to come downstairs by themselves it had to be while they were out in case one came down (our bathroom is downstairs and there is nowhere to hide if they decide to pop into the living room as well).

So, now I do any that need posting about now, will be posting on the way to work on Mon. Any that are to be handed to other friends/relatives I will do in a session with the DCs probably next weekend. The rest will be done while they are at school the last week or so of term.

Clandy · 06/12/2013 22:08

Soontobe that's a great idea. Grin I'm not sure as they are all stashed in various places where wrapping paper would be obvious if it was spotted whereas the corner of a box not so much, also likely to get scuffed up. Everyone else's presents will be wrapped next weekend when tree is up. Not considered dd2 opening them.... Might be interesting

notso · 06/12/2013 22:09

I used to do it on Christmas Eve then we started doing stuff on Christmas Eve and it wasn't practical. So I started doing a bit on various evenings.
Now I have 4 DC, DD is the eldest she's 13 she goes to bed about 30 mins before DH and I.
I have a 3 yo and a 20 month old at home who never nap together, I don't know when I'm going to do it. I had a free evening and did a bit but spend nearly 2 hours putting stuff together so didn't get much done.

CaptainSweatPants · 06/12/2013 22:10

I did it today

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 06/12/2013 22:11

Usually Christmas Eve.

This year for some reason we blitzed all the present shopping in one day and got everything wrapped that weekend.

We are never that organised. I must have forgotten something. Xmas Grin

piratecat · 06/12/2013 22:14

prob when dd is at school next week. can't do it in evenings, she'll wake up.

xmas eve is too late for me. i like to do bugger all then.

soontobeslendergirl · 06/12/2013 22:14

Clandy - it's a really low bed with a king size duvet on the double so the duvet just about touches the floor therefore there is nothing to see :) the only thing that didn't fit under is now under our bed, wrapped up and put back into a bigger box so still not interesting enough to be noticed. The years we had the the 2 - 3 in the morning wrapping also coincided with their earliest ever years for waking......christmas day on 2 hours of sleep does not make happy parents!!

AnneWentworth · 06/12/2013 23:33

Blimey. We, this very evening have just made our final list of what to buy'

Hohohowhatfuckeryitis · 06/12/2013 23:48

xmas eve-as i am totally shite. i may do some this week.....naaaaaaaa

timidviper · 06/12/2013 23:51

I do mine fairly close to Xmas as I don't like the bows and stuff to get crushed while they are piled together and, if I don't put those on instantly, I forget what is what and have to redo them.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 06/12/2013 23:55

Usually xmas eve here too, starts off relaxed finishes up tired and stressed.

So this year will aim for weekend before or two..or try it in two go's.

ChristmasYoni · 06/12/2013 23:57

Me are all done, I do them in batches. A few each night a couple of times a week from beginning of November, finished my last today, although those wer extras (unneeded presents to add to my ever growing pile for the kids) that I got the itch and bought yesterday! Before those I previously finishing wrapping last week. I love wrapping but it gets boring doing them all in one go.

Coveredinweetabix · 07/12/2013 00:08

I've just finished my second batch of wrapping. I try and do it on nights when DP is out as then I can have a snacky supper which I nibble on between presents and have a DVD which I've seen loads of times before on and take over the sitting room. Ten days or so ago I did all of the children other than our own DC; tonight I've done my friends (as I'm seeing that at the weekend), secretary, DC1's teachers etc. Much nearer to Xmas I will wrap family presents. I can't leave it until Xmas Eve as there's some Playmobil to build before I can start wrapping. Our lovely neighbour has agreed to house the built Playmobil in her spare room until Xmas Eve.

nancy75 · 07/12/2013 00:09

doing mine next weekend as dd is out for most of the day. I have done xmas eve before - never again!

whethergirl · 07/12/2013 00:16

I always do mine a couple of weeks before Christmas.

Well, I don't, I just wanted to feel like an organised person, just for a few seconds. I'm afraid I belong to the pissed-on-late-xmas-eve wrapping club.

But maybe, this year.....I'll try not to get too pissed?

TheXmasLogIn · 07/12/2013 01:53

Never ever want to experience wrapping everything on Xmas eve again. By the time I'd finished and got into bed it was 4am, then the DC were awake just after 5am. I was so knackered I could hardly keep my eyes open while they opened their presents which made me quite sad after that I missed their reactions :(

Now I always make sure I finish wrapping my DC's gift by the time schools break up at the latest.

MilkOneSugar · 07/12/2013 05:06

DD's birthday is Xmas eve so I spend Xmas eve eve wrapping birthday presents, then Xmas eve wrapping Xmas presents after a full day of birthday festivities. Usually get to bed 2/3am.

Not this year though. This year I'm doing it all next weekend. I am a bit concerned about storing them though as only have the under stairs cupboard so I hope they don't get tatty.

I haven't finished my present buying yet and I'm feeling a bit anxious about it.

Horopu · 07/12/2013 05:39

Everything that is bought has been wrapped over a few evenings.

Stocking presents hidden in plain sight on a laundry bag in garage that no one will look at.

Other presents in bottom of my wardrobe. Presents ordered but not delivered yet will be wrapped within a day or two of them arriving.

As soon as Christmas tree is up everything except socking presents will go under it.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/12/2013 06:16

I'll be wrapping next week, when I'm not at work and the children are still at school. They break up on Thursday so it all has to be wrappend and then boxed up and hidden again by then.

MegBusset · 11/12/2013 22:23

Did all mine yesterday!

WhereIsMyHat · 12/12/2013 00:12

I started today for non Father Christmas ones. I'll probably do my childrens ones a couple of days before Christmas.
