Apologies if this had already been done.
We arent keen on turkey in this house. Its my third year of doing christmas dinner myself (rather than going to my parents house) i am not the best chef in the world! First year we did pork and apple sauce. Second year we did beef and yorkshire puddings. Both went pretty well. So feeling a bit more brave this year!!
Looking for inspiration. Lamb?, goose? Maybe even a seafood recipe. Does anyone have any recipes they could share?

Have a look at these ready to cook fish dishes from m&s

DH and I are vegetarian so we have a Quorn roast with all the accompaniments. DS and DD will have chicken- a whole one is too much, so they have a chicken breast each, with skin, roasted. I buy the free range ones and though they are eyewateringly ££ it's worth it.

i'm a fan of tradition so I wouldn't want anything too new and fangled Xmas Blush
How many are you cooking for .Goose doesn't yield alot.

MothershipG · 06/12/2013 20:36

Goose! So much tastier than Turkey. It's not cheap but makes a lovely special treat and you won't be trying to come up with endless ideas for the leftovers. Wink

ChoudeBruxelles · 06/12/2013 20:37

Beef rib (ordered a two rib joint). Mmmmm looking forward to it already

SanityClause · 06/12/2013 20:43

We have guinea fowl. But with all the turkey trimmings.

snappybadger · 06/12/2013 22:37

I'm doing a ham (Nigella's ginger glazed one) for me, dad and ds as neither me or dad are keen on turkey. Also plan on boiling it the day before and only having to do the glaze on Christmas Day, so less fuss. Will have all the usual trimmings with it though.

hallamoo · 06/12/2013 22:41

Nut Wellington with all the traditional Christmas trimmings.

AnneWentworth · 06/12/2013 23:29

We are having venison and grouse. We have never had venison before (I ate it for the first time at the weekend), so the grouse is something a little different to a chicken alternative but we all like it. We do have all the usual accompaniments including yorkshires whatever meat, game or poultry we have.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 06/12/2013 23:51

Rib of Beef and a ham.

Doing Nigella ginger ( virgin).

Never had turkey.

Usually have Goose or Duck.

Dollybird86 · 06/12/2013 23:56

Leg or shoulder of lamb with garlic and rosemary and all the trimmings can't wait!

RhondaJean · 06/12/2013 23:59

Chinese takeaway.

Do not do stress.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 07/12/2013 00:02

We're having beef and duck. Always tie meats for some reason which is lost in time

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 07/12/2013 00:03

Two meats.
Doh!

BobCrotchstitch · 07/12/2013 04:30

Venison and lamb here, though DS is adamant that we MUST have turkey so may buy a small crown or even breast. I want to do a ham as well but I think we may be eating cold meat until New Year at this rate Xmas Grin

MrsWildermac · 07/12/2013 05:26

Lamb (from one of FIL's sheep), slow roasted with honey, garlic and rosemary with all the trimmings - yum!

Chottie · 07/12/2013 05:30

We have a mix of turkey lovers and tolerators so we alternate between beef and turkey every year.

HeyMicky · 07/12/2013 05:43

Beef Wellington this year. But we had poussin last year and venison the year before that

singarainbow · 07/12/2013 05:44

doing the 3 bird roast from Alldi....always waste too much meat normally, so going cheap and cheerful!

schnockles · 07/12/2013 06:13

Venison for Christmas Day and guinea fowl for a second extended family day. Last year it was beef Wellington.

happycrimblechuckie · 07/12/2013 06:17

Cheese and Biscuits and loads of port! Who will even know we haven't had a turkey after that. First year of no Christmas dinner so not sure how it will go. Kids are all grown up now and one of them isn't even bothering to come home, so thought now it is time for a change.

welovetopsyandtim · 07/12/2013 07:04

Oh my goodness. What a lot of delicious ideas. I havent a clue which to do they all sound so yummy!

Nut Roas
Carrots with maple syrup & pecans
Peas with leeks in butter
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puds (yes, I know not Christmassy, but we love them).

CeQueLEnfer · 07/12/2013 07:08

Sorry, that should be 'Nut Roast'.

Jenijena · 07/12/2013 07:34

Probably duck. We had beef Wellington the yr before. And duck the two years before that.

ivykaty44 · 07/12/2013 08:17

lamb
