I've got a perpetual one that goes up when the tree does. I think if I were to go for a fresh one, I might try to make it. (Wreath bases aren't expensive.) Do you have a holly tree or bush nearby that you could take some cuttings from?

cozietoesie · 29/11/2013 20:53

PS - if you have DCs, it would also be a good pre-xmas activity.

qazxc · 29/11/2013 20:56

i'd imagine they last quite a bit what with them being out in the cold.

Sorry I posted earlier on my phone and now realize it made no sense! I like the idea of making stuff, but sadly the reality never lives up to the picture in my head. The only holly bush I can think of is at school. Wonder if I can take some cuttings on the school runGrin

I suppose they must last a while or they wouldn't be selling them so soon. Can't wait to get decorating!

I always get a real one from local florist for £10 but they are beautiful.
They last for ages - I put my decs up about a week in to December and it's still as fresh when it gets taken down in jan. (always worry it will get stolen but have been lucky so far). I' m prob a bit lazy as we have a holly bush in our garden but nor sure I could be as creative as my lovely florist. And if making yourself, she uses a plastic wreath shaped holder, ribbons, berries etc - by the time you find all that, might cost u the same as the one you have seen

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/11/2013 21:21

I have a faux wreath with lights (battery, on a timer, suitable for outdoors).
I worry about it being pinched too Grin.

It goes on the front door and when I get home from work, it's welcoming me home aaaaahhh

I do an ivy wreath for the inner glass door (porch is cold so it lasts ok) I use long strands of garden ivy and red ribbon.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 29/11/2013 21:24

They're £4.99! The mini trees are £7.99.

They are lovely for the price and I was tempted but unsure of hanging one on the front door

IrateCrank · 29/11/2013 21:25

How do you hang them on the door?

I saw over the door hook things lately but i don't think my front door will close properly with one of them. Plus they spoil the look - they don't have them in the films Blush

£4.99 is a killer price. If they're that, I'd get one. (In fact, I may head down to our LIDL tomorrow and have a look as well!)

VworpVworp · 29/11/2013 21:36

How would one hang one on a glazed door then? I do really want one this year...

mamicar · 29/11/2013 21:38

I bought a faux one too last year and have a large sucky hook like this for my glass door.

http://www.floristrywarehouse.com/suction-cup-wreath-hook-holder-adams.html sucky hook

apologies if link doesn't work I am on phone and its my first attempt Smile

buttercrumble · 29/11/2013 21:39

I hung mine on the glass front door last year with a large suction hook , you can get on amazon for a couple of quid Smile

mamicar · 29/11/2013 21:39

sucky hook

ineedanexcuse · 29/11/2013 21:49

I have a wooden door and hang my wreath with a hook screwed into the inside of the door and a loop of wire pulled over the door to securely attach to the wreath.

It would take superman to pull the wreath off as passing act of vandalism but I suppose a determined thief could cut the wire if they had cutters.Luckily they dont seem to be so determined round here (council estate) Wink

IrateCrank · 29/11/2013 21:53

Thanks

bit of engineeering involved. i'll wait til I sober up a bit before considering it properly

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/11/2013 22:02

On a glazed door- glass nails of course Wink

What do you mean they aren't real . My dad got sent out for some when he was a mere boy apprentice Grin

VworpVworp · 30/11/2013 01:17
Grin

Thanks for the sucky hook idea, mamicar!

girlywhirly · 30/11/2013 16:16

I hang mine next to the front door on a screw for the hanging basket.

winklewoman · 30/11/2013 16:36

We have a fairly ancient, but still in good nick, artificial one, it has walnuts, berries , crabapples etc, I just add bits of real holly and ivy from the garden and it looks very good. If it was stolen, I would not be broken hearted though.

CrotchStitch · 30/11/2013 18:58

I made mine today and it is hanging on the front door as I type :)
Tis a thing of great beauty if you discount it's slight wonkiness and if it gets stolen I shall stake out the village looking for the culprit :o

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 30/11/2013 19:11

I have a glazed door and use one of the over door hangers. saves it being nicked too as we screw it into the top of the door frame!!
