Between us, DH and I buy presents for:

Each other
My parents / PILs
My sister
His sister
Two grandads

We spend about £20 per head. Doesn't sound much each, but just realised that's £200!

Mum price varies
Brother £30
Dp not set
Mil £10
Dp's 2 sisters £10 each
Best friend £25
4 friends £10 each
5 friends children £10 each
Secret Santa at work £5

I say I need to cut down every year but it doesn't happen!

Dh and I did each other a stocking with a limit of £20 last year.

I buy for my dad, brother, nan and grandad. Then for aunts and uncles they get a box of chocolates or biscuits.

On my mums side the adults do "pound" presents. They aren't supposed to cost more than a pound which is sometimes a challenge but quite fun.

My cousins are now 20, 17 and 17 so I think the eldest will be on pound presents this year.

Dhs family we only buy for his mum, dad, brother, brothers girlfriend and grandad. They tend to spend a lot more because there are much fewer of them and only our two children, whereas on my side there are a lot more people, and quite a few children too!

2 sets of parents, around £150 per couple, usually theatre tickets plus chocolates/sweets/small gift for each to open (both sets are in their 70s so tickets are much appreciated as they don't really need anything.

1 auntie around £15, nice scarf and chocolate, again she is in her 70s so difficuly to buy for.

3 adult DC plus 1 son in law, usually around £250/300 and a little less on son in law, but I don't spend a lot on my DGC, I still like to spend the most on my own DC Blush

A small token present for son in laws mum and her partner, maybe £15/20 between them.

I probably spend more than I should, but then everyone spends so generously on DS so I feel bad.

DM is getting a Kindle Fire so £100
DF & SM £40 restaurant Vouchers & £10 bottle of Prosecco
MIL Dressing gown, DVD and CD so £35
FIL 2x books and choc orange £12
SIL faux fur coat, benefit make up and choc orange £50 ( she's only 19 so spoil her)
BIL book, chocolate & champagne £15
DB beer and chocolate £12
SIL2 Book & Wine £10
Niece Lots of Clothes, nail sets, chocolate and iTunes card £80?
Grandparent x1 Molton Brown Set & Chocolates £30
2x Uncle & 2x Aunts £6 per couple.. Just small token gift

So 16 adults?

I always buy the odd bottle of wine and chocolates and put under tree for potential neighbour visit.

DH isn't included in my count

My parents - but only small things from the children, because my mother just gives everything to charity immediately so it isn't worth it.

My sister and SIL. (who are married to each other, there isn't a missing bloke we refuse to give presents to!) Smile

That is it really. Oh and something for the couple upstairs who are brilliant.

I have 28 to buy for ( including 5 family members with December birthdays who I have to buy twice for).
This includes secret Santa at work and small neighbour gifts (one has children we buy for and the others have children we donate our second hand toys too).

DH - between £50-100, and he spends the same on me.
Then DM, DF, DMIL, DFIL, DB1, DB1's gf, DB2, DB2's gf, DB3, DSIL and DBIL - all about £30 each.

That adds up to a lot more than I thought it would Confused

I just but for my mum and dad, usually about £75 each and then we do a secret Santa for the adults so just 1 more person at £20. So glad we do secret Santa as save on loads of unwanted pressies and expense. Usually means I but myself something with the money I've saved.

We don't buy for one another.

We don't buy presents for family as such because they can't afford to buy back.

DH £100 - one large present

DM £20
DF £20
Joint present for parents £30

DSIS £30
BIL £15
Nieces and nephew £20-30 each
Joint present for their family £45

DH's nephew £20

In theory, DH should buy for his family but I usually end up doing this.

No wonder I'm broke Sad

If you are broke, don't buy it. Someone who cares for you would not want a present that they cannot afford to buy.

too many
we mooted the idea of either doing a £50 secret santa, or just exchanging token presents with the ILs. this went down like a lead balloon.

so we continue to spend £30-40 each on BIL, 2xSILs, MIL and FIL, as well and about £20 each on GMIL and GFIL.

thankfully my family are happy with a chocolate orange and summit for thew DC.

Philoslothy · 23/11/2013 14:40

But why do you have to continue?

I'm not broke now, but going on maternity leave in 4 weeks so I need to restrain my spending from now on really.

We don't buy for other adults. We get each other something if we feel especially flush, which isn't very often, but I know that dh has bought me a netbook & camera this year - which I didn't expect and am extremely feckin chuffed about.

I hate the politics that goes along with buying for the relatives. I'd get people meaningful, well thought out gifts, for the right reasons, if I lived in disney world. But I don't. They'd probably cost 50p and be handmade. Or dh would have whatever job the dad of Home Alone had, those guys were loaded.
