How many adults do you buy for and how much do you spend?

Between us, DH and I buy presents for:

Each other
My parents / PILs
My sister
His sister
Two grandads

We spend about £20 per head. Doesn't sound much each, but just realised that's £200!

Mum, dad and brother. About £50 - £75 each.

My grandparents (x2) about £20 - £30 each.

My aunt and her family £20 (family gift)

DH about £100

DH sorts out his own family.

I don't subscribe to the Christmas is for kids philosophy. Personally, I like to show my appreciation to my parents for Christmas as they do so much to help. Of course, I try all year round and buy my mum the odd bunch of flowers every now and then, just to say thanks, but it's so easy for life to get into the way. Christmas is a nice time of giving, and to say thanks for all the things they do for us.

6 adult friends (we are a group of 4 childless couples and are all expats so few if any pressies from family to open), max 20 quid each, but it MUST be the most ridiculous thing possible. Last year one bloke received a USB hub that looked like anal beads. I got a she-wee.

Then husband and he gets stupid amounts spent on him because he has expensive tastes

We stopped buying gifts for each other several years ago. We buy for the dc and focus on having nice food and drink.

As a teen/in my early 20's, I enjoyed buying gifts for friends/family. I do miss those days less responsibilities and more money.

DH about £350 on various including new ski jacket plus gloves and base layer, body warmer plus stocking

Then for DH's family it is a £50 secret santa from each of us.

Plus I have got a groupon voucher for photo calendars for DM, MIL and assorted aunties and cousins abroad

Loads, IL's are very generous, we try to be very thoughtful back.

Finally managed to get my sisters to agree to no presents last year, still buying for adult nephews and nieces though so approx £100 (Although never see 2x nephews!!).

DH no set budget but we really both have said we don't need anything this year.

oh and Nursery 8x approx £5 presents.

We don't buy for other adults. We get each other something if we feel especially flush, which isn't very often, but I know that dh has bought me a netbook & camera this year - which I didn't expect and am extremely feckin chuffed about.

I hate the politics that goes along with buying for the relatives. I'd get people meaningful, well thought out gifts, for the right reasons, if I lived in disney world. But I don't. They'd probably cost 50p and be handmade. Or dh would have whatever job the dad of Home Alone had, those guys were loaded.

we mooted the idea of either doing a £50 secret santa, or just exchanging token presents with the ILs. this went down like a lead balloon.

so we continue to spend £30-40 each on BIL, 2xSILs, MIL and FIL, as well and about £20 each on GMIL and GFIL.

thankfully my family are happy with a chocolate orange and summit for thew DC.

If you are broke, don't buy it. Someone who cares for you would not want a present that they cannot afford to buy.

I just but for my mum and dad, usually about £75 each and then we do a secret Santa for the adults so just 1 more person at £20. So glad we do secret Santa as save on loads of unwanted pressies and expense. Usually means I but myself something with the money I've saved.

Then DM, DF, DMIL, DFIL, DB1, DB1's gf, DB2, DB2's gf, DB3, DSIL and DBIL - all about £30 each.

That adds up to a lot more than I thought it would

I have 28 to buy for ( including 5 family members with December birthdays who I have to buy twice for).
This includes secret Santa at work and small neighbour gifts (one has children we buy for and the others have children we donate our second hand toys too).

My parents - but only small things from the children, because my mother just gives everything to charity immediately so it isn't worth it.

My sister and SIL. (who are married to each other, there isn't a missing bloke we refuse to give presents to!)
