Presents for Dads costing £1-£1.50 each

Our PTA runs a Secret present room at the Christmas fair so the children can buy a gift for their parents. Presents for mums are fairly easy but I'm a bit stumped for what we can get for the dads whcih. We need 3-4 choices and they need to cost no more than £1.50 each. Any ideas?!

slab of chocolate with dad on it?

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 19/11/2013 19:53

Bottle opener or mini torch key ring?

homeworkmakesmemad · 19/11/2013 19:53

What a fab idea!

  • Cheap golf balls (the probably won't use them, but I'm sure they'd be appreciated if a child had paid for them themselves)
  • Golf tees
  • Chocolate orange (shop around for who has them cheapest at the minute)
  • Pack of playing cards
  • Silly socks
  • Toblerone (standard dad gift)

You could try Poundland for men's toiletries (like after shave), gadgets or books :).

BikeRunSki · 19/11/2013 19:59

Socks
Multipack of fake Sharpies (Poundland)
Liquorice Allsorts
Manly lipsalve (DH will only use that Vaseline one in the little retro tins)
Chocolate
Water bottle
Private Eye

Mint matchsticks are £1.25 in Tesco at the moment.

You might get cheap key rings if you buy in bulk.

insanityscratching · 19/11/2013 20:07

What about these? or these?

TheOneWithTheHair · 19/11/2013 20:24

Please avoid shave gel etc. dh has v sensitive skin and he may feel obliged to use it if ds has bought it home.

(Unless you aren't in the Manchester area op, in which case, go for it. Grin)

MissBattleaxe · 19/11/2013 20:27

A mug. We always need mugs and not tiny skinny mugs either. A manly mug. Poundshops are good.

A crossword, or suduku, puzzle book.

morethanpotatoprints · 19/11/2013 20:36

Terry's Choc Orange 95p at Morrisons.

ShatnersBassoon · 19/11/2013 20:36

Pound shop for socks, car care things and DIY things. All dads love those when you're little and only have a couple of pounds to spend Grin

BornToFolk · 19/11/2013 20:36

Credit card multi tool?

TheOneWithTheHair · 19/11/2013 20:47

How about these? Gloves

A word of warning, if any of the stuff comes from amazon, check it's not coming from the Far East. It can take up to 6 weeks for delivery. I have been stung before.

iloveholidays · 19/11/2013 20:48

They're doing this at DD1s school, I think its a lovely idea and can't wait to see what she chooses for us :). You're not in hampshire are you?? Grin

I'd suggest just going to the pound shop and seeing what they have. Toiletries, chocolate, mugs, drink glasses, pens, tools....

BikeRunSki · 19/11/2013 20:51

Little jars of coffee ?
Nice jam (tesco Bonne Maman equivalent is about £1.20 at mo)

TheHouseofMirth · 19/11/2013 21:14

Thanks all, some great suggestions here and no, we're not in Hampshire or Manchester!

Takes me back to when my boys were little (maybe 6 & 7), that year instead of me taking them to choose a present for dad and him taking them to choose a present for me, I took them to the pound shop. I stood by the door (small shop) and I gave them £4 each to buy a present for my and DH and a gift bag each so that they could just shove the presents straight in the bag and take them home to hide them so we would get a surprise. I was temped to sneak a peak but contained myself.

Anyway, Christmas day came and they were super excited to give us the gifts. DH got a insulated cup from one boy and a CD wallet from the other - I was really amazed that they'd managed to pick such appropriate presents (6 years on and they still get used!).........then I opened mine. younger boy had bought me a set of felt reindeer antlers and eldest had bought me what he described as a "beautiful necklace". It was a set of green shiny beads for decorating a christmas tree!!!

I looked an absolute picture that Christmas day decked out in my new necklace and antlers :o

So funny - it still makes me smile when I think about it :)

Anyway, the point of that story was to say that the pound shops will have loads of stuff - just put a 50p mark up on it for the school funds.

soontobeslendergirl what precious memories!!

soontobeslendergirl · 19/11/2013 22:44

Clr2014 - indeed!

As someone said to me recently - it's only years later that you realise that all the small stuff that happens in life is actually the big stuff that you remember and treasure forever.

enormouse · 19/11/2013 22:46

soontobeslender that's lovely.
My DP took DS (now 2) to pick out something for me for mothers day and I ended up with a bright green watering can with pansies in it. It's completely naff but i love it.

soontobeslendergirl · 19/11/2013 22:53

enormouse that's v cute :)

It's the image of their faces as they were jumping up in down in excitement that day that I try to recall every time I feel like punching them now that they are cheeky teenagers :o

Allalonenow · 19/11/2013 22:54

Ahh soontobe happy times and great memories, you sound so lovely, best wishes to you and your family for this Christmas!!

soontobeslendergirl · 19/11/2013 22:54

...I'm mostly joking about the punching btw in case anyone wants to call out the social on me.....
