For some unknown reason I just found myself searching for Funfax on amazon. why are they no longer made, they were AWESOME! Obviously there are old used ones but a lot of the fun was deciding in the shop what one I would get...

What nostalgic toys would you share with your DCs if they were still available?

I'm now remembering my old Funfax. Wish I still had it, that thing was amazing.

I have two big yellow teapots as my mum and I did some non-communicative jumble sale shopping when I was pregnant with DS1. Grin

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 17/11/2013 09:50

Ah! Spirograph. I loved that game.

2anddone · 17/11/2013 09:53

Secret keepers I loved mine and Sylvanian family playsets that actually came with all the accessories and a family slightly bitter I never kept mine and this year spent a fortune on dd

Melongena · 17/11/2013 10:10

A decent chemistry set. Proper badass Breaking Bad stuff.

I had one but my parents 'never got round to' getting me some methylated spirits so I could do the really fun burny experiments the evil bastards although I see now where they were coming from and would probably do the same to my kids. Want one for myself though!

I really really wish I hadn't given away my puppy in my pockets. I had a huge collection and really loved them. The modern versions are shite :(

Rainbow Brite

madamecake · 17/11/2013 11:44

Speak and spell. I would spend hours on it, and thought it was very hi-tech!

ItsWarmerInTheSouth · 17/11/2013 11:55

The Kenner tree house with the slide and the swing and the lift and the little people and the button at the top of the tree that you pressed and it popped open Grin

Shoutymomma · 17/11/2013 12:13

We have the Kenner tree house! Haven't got all the furniture and the folding stairs broke, buy hey. They go for a fortune on ebay. We still have some of my fisher price little people stuff and playmobil too. I'm going to put all my girls' stuff (sylvanians, elc fairies, etc) in the loft when they get big. Should pay for my retirement.

TheWildOnes · 17/11/2013 17:18

I also loved my fashion wheel and can remember keepers too.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/11/2013 19:13

We had Cabbage Patch/Garbage Pail kids.

Also there was one small toy that looked like a little animal that was hard plastic with a furry back that you could brush. I cannot remember the name. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

dementedma · 17/11/2013 19:13

My sister had a board game called haunted house, where the ghosts were hidden under a revolving floorboard thing.
It was cool

cazza2878 · 17/11/2013 19:51

Strawberry shortcake dolls that smelled of fruits!

The snail things you could hide things in their shells were they the sweet keepers?

We also had the haunted house game and another one where you had frog playing pieces and a spell book that slotted in its back?!

Also loved lights alive and major Morgan. Also what was the chunky black pen thing (like an old fashioned version of leapfrog tag)

DearlyDepartedMrsFinch · 17/11/2013 19:53

Ooh, I loved my Lights Alive. Is there a modern day equivalent? DD would probably love it.

PopGoesTheWeeble · 17/11/2013 20:21

TheOne - I had a toy like that called a Snugglebum,is that the one you mean?

downdownupdown · 17/11/2013 20:22

.

downdownupdown · 17/11/2013 20:25

I loved secret keepers! They should make a return, my dds would love!

Doitnicelyplease · 17/11/2013 20:27

I loved my Charmkins jewellry house and 'people' and always took great care not to lose any of the teenie tiny pieces. Think it was circa 1982/3? I think they go for good money now.

I also remember Sweet Secrets I think I had the comb/bed - but it was a bit crap.

BoohPear · 17/11/2013 21:39

Matilda I think I love you, I had that record player and I now know what I'm getting dd for her first birthday in March!

notthefirstagainstthewall · 17/11/2013 22:03

I had a 1970's "crystal ball" fortune telling game. Would be unacceptable now on racist or religious grounds no doubt.

It was an amazing sparkly deep blue ball that had a little bulb that up when you ran a "magic" ring over it. You put what looked like ordinary cards into a slot in the base of the ball and with the light you could see a picture on the back of the card. It came with one earring , a gypsy scarf and a second non magic ring so doubting friends could try it out (unsuccessfully!).

I loved everything about it but especially that it was such a beautiful shade of midnight blue and such an ingenious design.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/11/2013 23:01

Yes, that's it! Thank you PopGoesTheWeeble. Grin

hedgehogy · 18/11/2013 11:35

I had a funfax, I forgot all about it until I read this thread! I also had a fashion wheel, glow worm, lights alive, speak and spell, ghost castle, and sweet secrets.

insummeritrains · 18/11/2013 16:16

Ah funfax! Thanks for reminding me of that, OP. One of my childhood memories was going into Woolworths for one and getting the very last one on the shelf. Still remember how happy I was Smile

Northumberlandlass · 18/11/2013 16:19
