Craft box - ideas please

Am thinking of telling MiL to get the dc a craft box for Xmas - realistically ill be the one sorting it out. Ds is 7 and dd 3.5. Neither of them need any more toys than they are already getting but they both love crafts, dd especially which is great considering its the only thing she will concentrate on - TV / toys / books just don't interest her. In an ideal world I'd like a couple of things in the box she can do herself but as she's not to be trusted with pens or scissors I'm not sure what, she can't always manage stickers.

So my ideas so far are:

A nice big sturdy box - any ideas?
Pom poms
Pipe cleaners
Lolly sticks
Buttons
Dolly pegs
Wool
Various glues
Sequins
Glitter
Air drying clay
Paint for clay
Googly eyes
Paper of various shapes, sizes and colours
Tissue paper
Crepe paper
Shiny paper
Scissors
Stickers
Tracing paper

Any other ideas? Am not keen on buying much paint because neither of them enjoy it that much, they both love making things hence the clay, sticking things and making junk models. They are also each getting a giant twistables pens set so no need for those.

Anything a bit more unusual you can think of?

Also where online should I buy from to get the best deal? Yellow moon??

Foam sheets (or you could get precut foam shapes)
Sticker dots
Scraps of ribbon/fabric
Coloured/plain Matchsticks (you can get bags of non-match ones IYSWIM - just little sticks)

Box - fold out tool box with lots of compartments?

fuzzpig · 16/11/2013 07:20

I'm doing similar btw and not doing it online as I reckon delivery would add up fast. I'll be going to shops like the works, asda, tesco, wilkos, local toy shop as they all have ranges of basic stuff

Also - little 'jewels' and rubber bands might be good. And Sellotape - on another thread their very own tape dispenser was suggested which I think is a great idea

Glitter....? Are you sure...? Glitter glue is less messy when used unsupervised :o

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 07:22

Our local Poundland has lots of stickers and sticky gems etc.

bellablot · 16/11/2013 07:24

Crayolo do a lovely big box of assorted items for toddlers, lovely present. Around £15 I think, Costco stock it. Smile

bellablot · 16/11/2013 07:29

That is obviously meant to say crayola. What about a playdoh set of some sort?

insanityscratching · 16/11/2013 07:29

Those maize shapes that stick together with water
Feathers.
Jewels,
ribbons.
tissue paper

CorrieDale · 16/11/2013 07:33

Glitter in a tray isn't too bad (put a tray on the list). IME glitter glue is splodged on and takes forever to dry. In the meantime the splodges transfer to the table, floor, sofa, etc.

Bonkerz · 16/11/2013 07:33

Send her to crafty crocs web site!!!!

BeaWheesht · 16/11/2013 07:43

Oh glitter glue is hideous stuff, at least glitter can be swept up and found for months - she won't be getting to use it unsupervised.

Loving the ribbon, foam, feathers ideas. We have play dough sets already but otherwise great plan. I can't stand the texture of the maize stuff, makes me shivery just thinking about it!

Am trying online because only really have access to tesco and Asda here and I'm giving them enough money already!

Thanks everyone.

Glitter glue - 6 different colours for £1 in Wilkinson. I recently raided the wallpaper section of our local DIY store for 'samples' to use in collaging craft. ;-)

BeaWheesht · 16/11/2013 07:48

We don't have wilkinsons here :(

Loving the wallpaper idea. I've already used samples to decorate dds dolls house so might feel a bit guilty.

Side note - is wilkos the same as wilkinsons?

Ikea do a box that has compartments on the top . And it should fit into a larger base However I zoomed past the other day and couldn't find a lid that fitted over the lot . ( which seems so unlike Ikea that I guess it was me and not them) I want something similar as I plan to do a craft / sewing box for dd and after GALTs stuff given to her in the past am plan ing on a DIY version.

stickysausages · 16/11/2013 07:54

Tool box or tackle bow would be best & sturdier

fuzzpig · 16/11/2013 08:12

Yes Bea it's the same :)

Kahu · 16/11/2013 08:13

Scraps of "interesting" fabric - tulle, metallic, velvet, furry stuff etc
Felt squares
Lots of jewels
Patterned paper / origami paper
Patterned sticky tape eg japanese paper washi tape & dispenser
Stampers & stamp pads - Melissa & Doug do great ones or Ikea do marker ones
Pastels, gel pens, glitter crayons & lovely new markers
"Found" stuff eg paint chip sample cards, coloured tinfoil (Quality Street good for this!), ribbon curls
Teeny tiny spools of ribbon & rickrack
Balsa wood shapes for painting, colouring & bejewelling - dead cheap in craft stores, esp. recommend initial letters, butterflies etc.
Mini balsa wood treasure chests, jewellery boxes, photo frames etc
Scissors with curvy / zigzag blades
Low temperature glue gun (still needs supervision but oh so fab)
Tissue paper squares
Wool / yarn / embroidery thread
Mini artist canvases - try the Pound shop
Crayola window markers
Fabric markers & basic cotton shopping bags or T-shirts
[[http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90229418/This]] fabric from Ikea is great fun - colour it in using fabric markers (or normal markers if you won't need to wash it) & staple it to a canvas to make a wall hanging, make a cushion, bag whatever.
More jewels!

DD has all her crafty stuff in a big plastic tool box type thing from the pound shop. It's stuffed to the brim & a big old mess but she loves it.

Kahu · 16/11/2013 08:19

Paper doilies!
Gold & silver cord
Tiny bells
Curling ribbon
Buttons
Beads
Clear sticky back plastic
Wooden clothes pegs

You are going to need a gigantic rubbermaid box to store all this stuff!

Kahu · 16/11/2013 08:24

Air drying clay for your DS?
Stencils
My 3 year old DS loves to create with a roll of sellotape, a cardboard box & a box of tissues!

Kahu · 16/11/2013 08:27

Oh, and Crayola & Tesco both do multi packs of plastic scissors with fancy blades that actually do cut paper but not hair or clothes which are perfect for wee ones wish I'd known about them before the hairdresser game

HeadlessHeadmistress · 16/11/2013 08:31

Sellotape (DD steals all mine)
