Is it even worth buying a 3 month old baby anything for Christmas?

family members are buying presents for DD (will be 14 weeks old at Xmas)- DP and I were racking our brains last night trying to think what we could buy- it just seems like a 'token gesture ' though- she wont even know what day of the week it is.

DS1 (now 13) has a similar birthday date to DD and I distinctly remember feeling a bit 'meh' on his first christmas as it obviously went over his head.

What would you do? And if you would- could you link me to some age appropriate presents purlease???

Totally pointless! We gave DD some socks, hair clips and an orange for Christmas last year (she was 1, she needed the sock and the hairclips, the orange is some weird family tradition).

We might also have given her some chocolate money, but I ate that, so it doesn't count.

We're not planning on giving her much this year either, she has no clue what's going on and she'll get enough rubbish from the family!

Not worth it at all. Save the money, you will need it when she's older!

I was concerned that people would think I was a miserable tight old witch for not 'buying' anything. Ill stick some money in an account for her.

Clothes if needed - could ask for bigger sizes to put away if people insist on presents and not money. My DD was 10 days old her first Christmas - my parents bought her a baby bracelet to put away as they are funny about just giving money. X

Yes our little one was also 3 months at xmas and got nothing....

Well she did actually get a gorgeous soft Lamb, but the lable from Father Christmas had fallen off her one solitary toy, so sadly, older DD claimed that lamb for herself. . It has been the subject of much consternation in this house, even this year DD saying " Father Christmas needs to make sure he labels toys properly because we still do not know for definate who that Lamb was for."

I wouldn't bother with much, I think we just asked for clothes for ds and dd for their first Christmas. What about something as a keepsake, like a decoration for the Christmas tree?

I got DS a big toy, a jumperoo. But I got it in the sales! I think if you have other young children then they need to see the baby being included but if not then only if you want to!

I'm glad you posted this, for I always wondered if I was being mean to 4mth DS only giving him a cot activity centre and a vinyl bath book for his first Christmas. The amount we had had to spend before he was born was enough (no relatives had any baby stuff to loan or hand down) and I bought the activity toy because he had taken a shine to one at a friends house.

It never occurred to me to fill a stocking with things he might need in the future, such as weaning bowls/spoons, baby toiletries etc.

Ds was 2 weeks old for his first xmas and I got him a nice Christmas stocking, some toys that would last him the year and some nice baby grows.

I think I did it more for the pictures and because my grandparents were visiting from miles away. My parents bought him piles of stuff which I loved because I got to open them all

I meant to say ds is almost 13 now and he still uses the same stocking.

DS will be 10 weeks. We're going to get him the Tripp trapp we were going to buy anyway, some Dr Seuss books mainly for our benefit and a small token. No doubt the rest of the family will go insane with buying for the tiny cute baby anyway.

We've got DS a jumperoo, but its more for our benefit than his TBH Hoping it will keep him occupied for a bit...

I'm afraid at this age we wrapped up some of dad's existing toys so she had the excitement of ripping off wrapping paper. She was delighted to find her toys inside! We also did it with Ds- more because dd was 3 and would have wondered why Ds wasn't getting any presents. With him we wrapped up some of her old baby toys that had been put away for a while. She kept saying "I used to have a toy like that!" In amazement

i would personally buy a nice teddy, maybe a nice stocking for whens their older and abook.

mainly for your other child, so they know santa has still been for them.

We got my DS some clothes, books, a stuffed dinosaur (that he still likes now he is 4!) and a nice nameplate for his bedroom door. It's nice looking back on the photos of him with presents even though he didn't know what it was all about.

Our girls will be 15 months at Christmas. They got nothing last Christmas and this Christmas they will get a satsuma (which they love), a couple of That's not my books and that's it!

I would do something for the photos to be looked back on, I love that we have photos of the kids and their stocking in front of the tree for every Christmas they have experienced... but yes fill it up with stuff baby needs or will need in the next six months ... baby grows, body suits, 'that's not my' books, weleda body wash, teething granuals lol, a teething necklace perhaps, socks, rattle, soft toy, more books for when you are forced to read untold stories a day by stroppy toddler.

And for under the tree wrap up a few of elder child's old baby toys like PP said or splash out on a Jumperoo which will be wonderful in few months time they keep dropping to about £50 on Amazon at the moment.
