Hi, we have bought dd the hotel for xmas this year. I wondered how long these things take to set up and whether it would be worth making it ready on xmas eve? Any advice>

Thanks

I don't have the hotel, but ime most of the bigger sets can take a couple of hours to build.

NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 22:16

How old is your dd? Just wondering how much she will be able to help/how frustrated she will be if it isn't assembled.

If she is quite young and you are Playmobil novices, then I would say it may be worth assembling it beforehand. The buildings can take quite a bit of time if you don't have previous experience.

My mates and I could knock it up really quickly though, but we're old hands at this sort of thing.

Oh, and welcome to the world of Playmobil, I hope you enjoy it!

Your plastic pal,

Norm x

plum100 if you go onto the Playmobil website they give you a guide to construction time on the individual toys page!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/11/2013 22:18

Unless that is all you have to do on Christmas eve I'd so it sooner than that (assuming that you have space to hide it in).

plum100 · 07/11/2013 22:18

Thanks - she is 6 - and its her main present so not sure how patient she will be!

Sounds like its going to take me forever!!!

I love putting playmobil together with DD. we both really get into it. And other adults have to sort food/drinks/etc -
Perfect Christmas afternoon!

NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 22:25

Well.... I'm in the construction business you know. Although actually, I mostly stand around and drink Brew while my owner and his Mum get on with the actual building IYSWIM Wink.

But I'd say we have built a lot of Playmo buildings in our time - fire stations, police stations, hospitals, houses, airports. We have even built a train station from airport parts, we're quite versatile...

spicynaknik · 07/11/2013 22:25

Yes, do it before Christmas Eve, unless you want to be stuck doing it at 2am bitter experience. it takes longer than you think, if it is your first one.

Nice choice btw.

lilyloo · 07/11/2013 22:27

We are also starting a small collection this year.
Never even thought about the set up time. However dd loves the building of lego so hoping she may enjoy the setting up bit.

plum100 · 07/11/2013 22:27

thanks - am excited - its even got a key swipe for the hotel rooms!!!!

NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 22:28

Ooh, lovely to see people just starting their Playmo collections. Smile You won't regret it! Hours and hours of fun! Smile

TheFabulousIdiot · 07/11/2013 22:29

I am just wondering, do people do the same with Lego? DH DS is getting a Lego trainset for Christmas, he's three. I can't imagine him sitting through the construction stage.

NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 22:29

Ooh yes, we are quite Envy actually! I'd love to stay in that hotel, but apparently we don't have room for another large Playmo building! Sad

NorthernLurker · 07/11/2013 22:30

I get dd1 and dd2 to build dd3's Grin I would certainly do it in advance OP.

plum100 · 07/11/2013 22:31

We;'ve never had it before - I cant believe how cool it is - between them this year they have got the playground, pool , hotel and helicopter - was also thinking of getting the disco - have you seen it - it has proper lights!!!!!

OP posts:
NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 22:33

Yes, have seen the disco! Can just imagine strutting my stuff in there, with me hi-vis jacket! Grin

We don't have that, but do have the swimming pool, most relaxing! I'm on the catamaran as we speak with my mates. It's really lovely.

ShoeWhore · 07/11/2013 23:09

Start early. The pirate ship took us two evenings!

NormanTheForeman · 07/11/2013 23:11

Ooh, we have a pirate ship. It did take a while, but my owner was already quite experienced by then, so managed it with aplomb (and a bit of help from his dad, while his mum was helping her sister cook the Christmas dinner). Ours is called the HMS Revenge, and is presided over by Admiral Cuttlebone! Smile

Lilicat1013 · 08/11/2013 08:14

We are starting Playmobil properly this Christmas as well, we have a small penguin set and a pig set neither of which I assume will be a problem but we also have a aeroplane.

This aeroplane:
www.tesco.com/direct/playmobil-jet-5954/647-0300.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=647-0300

I didn't pay that much for it though! I got it in March for less than £20. Is it going to be a huge problem to build? I can't find it on the Playmobil website to get a time estimate.

It came in a huge box so I assume it is mostly made? I did expect it to be a lot smaller, it was quite a shock when I went to pick up the parcel!

I would really appreciate it if anyone knows.

TortillasAndChocolate · 08/11/2013 08:20

Just to jump in on this, my DS will be 3 in December and I want to buy him this sort of figure/make believe set. The age on playmobil is 4+. Should I wait until next year to buy any?

I'm conscious that many of the play sets for his age are for 18months plus and I don't want him to grow out of it too quickly. But equally, don't want to buy him something he has no interest in.

FarOverTheRainbow · 08/11/2013 08:25

I've just brought the zoo for 1 1\2 year olds! Do kids love playmobil then? I didn't buy it because I thought it looked good honest Blush
