Thinking of getting one for ds, he will be 2 at Christmas (27 months) are they worth the money at £55 or will a £20 argos job be just as good?

No idea but I'm going to hang out on this thread to find out. I'm wondering about buying my 1 year old one of the ones that converts from a seat right up to the normal scooter.

BellaOfTheBalls · 24/09/2013 16:46

Yes. DS1 was bought his aged 3. He's now 5 and still using it on a daily basis when he can prise it out of DS2's (25 months) Vulcan death grip

kiwidreamer · 24/09/2013 16:54

DD is getting one for Xmas and she will be 2.7mths by then, I see it lasting her until she is 5/6 yrs as she is on the slim side, DS was on the heavy side and went straight to the Maxi at 3yrs but on the plus side he wont need an upgrade until he wants a trick type one in another year or two (just turned five).

There is a brand called Mookie I think that do scooters that look very similar to the Mini Micro and are about £20 or more cheaper.

If you go the MM route then JoJoMamanBebe is good option, free delivery and often have 15% codes floating around.

icecubed · 24/09/2013 17:02

Yes every penny micro scooters last the cheaper ones don't

TheYamiOfYawn · 24/09/2013 17:05

Absolutely worth the extra cost.

Rosvita · 24/09/2013 17:25

A resounding yes from me!

5madthings · 24/09/2013 17:29

def worth the money. we have two micro scooters and two maxi ones. if anything breaks they will send you a spare part but we have only ever needed one new brake and that is with four kids giving them a hammering over years. my two yr old dd loves hers and my eight yr old still uses his maxi micro, i have a sneaky go on it sometimes as well.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 24/09/2013 17:31

Yes definitely but all I would say is that DD1 got a maxi for her 5th birthday this year and by the summer she wanted a two wheeler so I've bought a Sprite on condition that I can sell the maxi.

pokesandprodsforthelasttime · 24/09/2013 17:37

Yes. DD got hers for her 3rd birthday and it still using it now at 6.5 years. It's still in good nick too so will be passed down to DC2.

coveredinweetabix · 24/09/2013 19:19

Yes. DD and a bunch of her friends all had scooters for their birthdays last autumn. Those (inc DD) who got the mini micro scooters all got the hang pretty quickly & love using them; those who got other types just haven't bothered. I think this is down to weight and cornering. The mini micro is just so light & instinctive to use. DD loves "flying" on it and I can completely see why.
I second getting them from JoJo. I think they have £10 off a £50 spend at the moment.

Jojo3973 · 24/09/2013 19:24

Yes, yes absolutely worth it.

Yes!

ClaudetteWyms · 24/09/2013 19:43

Yes, my DD used hers for 3 years and loved it. Made getting around so much easier, and she hardly ever fell off.

IcedCoffeeQueen · 24/09/2013 20:35

thank you all its a resounding yes then! will order from jojo and get the discount, wondering if I should get the helmet too haven't seen any kids wearing helmets on scooters though

OP posts:
IrisWildthyme · 24/09/2013 22:11

My DS was given one for his 2nd birthday and has been using it almost daily since, it is still going strong. Acquaintances with cheaper versions are less happy. I say yes.

We never bothered with helmets though. However, do get one of these which is massively useful for keeping control of the scooter on a steep downhill (and pulling it up a steep uphill) until such time as you feel you can trust your child to scoot safely on the pavement without.

BrianTheMole · 24/09/2013 22:14

Yes. They are good. And the resale price is good too.

Moleyjay · 24/09/2013 22:26

My son adores his. He wears a helmet because he got so fast that the speeds started worrying me! He's had his since he was 2 now 4. 5 still absolute favourite thing.

NoBloodyMore · 24/09/2013 22:30

Sorry to gate crash your thread OP but for the people who've got one DD is 4.8 would the mini micro or maxi scooter be best?

bymoonlight · 24/09/2013 22:39

DD1 got a maxi when she was three, she will be six in November and still uses the same scooter every day for the school runs. We've only had one part wear out (the bit that adjusts the height on the handle). Phoned micro scooter up and got a replacement part sent out.

DD2 has had a mini micro since she was two. However she now prefers her sisters maxi so for her 3rd birthday (in November) she will be getting a Maxi and I will put her micro in safe keeping for dd3 who is due in January. I think the mini is too light for her now.

I agree they are worth every penny. DD1 loves riding it and is full of confidence on it. All the other scooters I've seen look like hard work compared to a micro scooter.

By far the best money I've spent on any present.

IcedCoffeeQueen · 24/09/2013 22:42

Just went onto jojo to buy it code hz92 was valid then it cleared my basket for no reason and now wont accept that code, the scooter page says discount codes not valid on mini micro scooters :(

Bastards

KrissyNorthants · 24/09/2013 22:55

Don't worry bout getting the really expensive ones you see in John Lewis (£100). My boy has a cheaper version with the lights strobes. My daughter has that plus the one with 3 wheels but cost about £35 as she didn't get on with 2 wheeler. They get on with both of theirs very well.

Lovescourgettes · 25/09/2013 06:23

After three cheaper ones broke in succession we got a maxi scooter and it is the best money I ever spent . The maxi and mini are similar sizes but the maxi can be raised higher so unless user is tiny I would get the maxi as you will get a lot more use out of it .
