Micro scooters worth the price?

Thinking of getting one for ds, he will be 2 at Christmas (27 months) are they worth the money at £55 or will a £20 argos job be just as good?

Definitely worth the money.

We got a cheaper one, tenner, DD loved it. Tried a friends Mini Micro to see the difference & it is quite significant. The wheels are made of a spongier rubber substance, so they have more give in them and are more hard wearing.

There is a lot more suspension on the wheels.
The board you stand on is more flexible, so it has more 'give'.

Not only do these give a comfier ride, but it also means when you hit something - sticking up flag stone, brancg, stone etc - there is less chance of going flying off. DD has to hit something significantly bigger on her MM than the cheaper one, before she falls off.

The brake is also a lot more responsive.
The steering is more sensitive.

At first glance there may not look like £45 difference, but a short ride on both and you quickly know which one you'd rather have your child using.

Replacement parts / parts to customise your scooter are easily available for the MM too.

Good resale value too Smile

The mini and maxi micro is brilliant. I wouldn't buy a micro sprite again though 5yo DDs sprite is falling apart after only a few months Sad

MummyPigsFatTummy · 25/09/2013 10:12

Yes definitely worth the money. We got DD a "My First Scooter" from Argos I think as Microscooters seemed so expensive. But bless her, she really struggled to get it to move at all (she was around 2.4/2.6 at the time). We gave in and bought the microscooter and she hasn't looked back since. She flies around on it - cornering, braking, everything seems to come naturally.

I would also say get a helmet. DD is now completely used to wearing one having done so for so long, and she would now not think of riding her scooter or bike without one.

Oh, and we also got the strap for it too. I now keep it with me at all times to pull her home on either the scooter or her bike when she gets tired. So much easier than having to lean over to drag the handle bars along.

They are good but very pricey new, so why not get a second-hand one? Both ours were off Ebay, a 2-year-old honestly won't notice the difference! Ours have even had presents from charity shops before, one of DD's favourite toys for a while was a baby pushalong activity thing I got for £5 from the Heart Foundation shop...

CockBollocks · 25/09/2013 16:34

Yes they are awesome!!

IcedCoffeeQueen · 26/09/2013 09:39

Had a look on ebay but nearly all are collection only and none within 200 miles of me, gutted that the discount code is not working at JoJo anymore don't want to spend £55 on one tho plus a helmet, might wait and see if they come down nearer Christmas, thanks for all replies

Arghhh I'm gutted - I have been umming and ahhing over whether the mini micro scooters are worth the money and had just decided they were so was going to use the JoJo code as well. I've got twins so I need to buy two Sad think I will have to wait too to see if they come down in price.

kiwidreamer · 26/09/2013 13:42

I really don't think they will come down in price, apart from the JoJo code I've never seen them discounted anywhere.

IcedCoffeeQueen · 26/09/2013 13:50

As far as I can see only jojo and john lewis stock them, and john lewis never do discount codes so maybe I should just pay up, camel camel says amazon had them for £40 but out of stock they are showing at 58 though

yes, they are worth every penny. My dc's are still using their Micro's at 6 and 4 :)

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 26/09/2013 22:25

You could do a saved search on Ebay so it emails you if one nearby comes up, we have done this for similar things (e.g. bikes). Saves on postage, too.

CockBollocks · 27/09/2013 21:27

Package deal?

I always buy direct as they are based near me. Just so you know if you do buy a 2nd hand one you could by replacement parts from microscooters.

rhetorician · 27/09/2013 21:31

Yes, ours is now on child no 2, great quality, good value and just COOL

Redlocks30 · 27/09/2013 22:04

Absolutely. We bought cheapo Argos scooters for £10/£20 for ours one year and they end up losing a bolt and go rusty-we then bought another the next year, and then the next...!

We finally relented and bought all three of them Micro scooters (one Mini and two Maxi) three years ago. They've used them loads and loads (can be unclicked and packed into suitcases for holidays) and no bits are worn, broken etc

They are brilliant. We bought cheapy bike locks and they ride them to school every morning and lock them up in the bike sheds.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/09/2013 06:03

noisytoys if it's only a few months they should do something about it? Have you contacted Micro scooter? They always seem pretty good.

Bit of self interest here, dd1 has a sprite which is ok so far so hoping it doesn't fall apart! :)

MrRected · 28/09/2013 06:14

Yes. In the time that DD has had hers, her brothers have been through several of them.

Sturdy. Well made. Worth every penny.

MrRected · 28/09/2013 06:17

I meant several cheap versions.
