BigShinyBaubles · 23/12/2012 14:49

Bacon sarnies when the fam arrive.
Then turkey and all the trimmings for our evening meal.
Nibbles and booze throughout the day Xmas Grin

IMO some of you Are BU, with the number of different things to eat I could manage about half a mouthful only of each item - and would then probably have some left over on the plate.

2-3 "main" meats, 2-3 types of potatoes, up to double figures of veg + assorted "accessories"? No wonder some women feel harried cooking Christmas dinner, there's more variety there than in a formal banquet! I used to feel like we were pushing the boat out having 3 veg + potatoes, and both stuffing and pigs in blankets as well as the turkey.

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 23/12/2012 16:06

Totally agree with your Allergictoironing.

The amount of food is, TBH, disgusting.

We are having one meat, one veg, one potato. The only thing we are having 2 of is stuffing because I despise meat stuffing so I am making plain sage and onion as well as meat.

No wonder people feel too much pressure on Christmas Day. They are cooking the equivalent of a Manor House Feast, which was prepared by the staff for the family and dependants.

McChristmasPants2012 · 23/12/2012 16:07

I enjoy cooking Christmas dinner, while DH deals with putting toys together and bugging him.

OP posts:
SnowProbs · 23/12/2012 16:12

We were going for a curry....but now DH has come down with flu so as it is just five of us, possibly four if DH is bedridden....I'm doing a roast chicken and small Christmas ham at home after all.

We are big on trimmings, so are having roast potatoes, carrot & swede mash, maple roast parsnips, spiced red cabbage, piggies in blankets, sage & onion stuffing, chestnut stuffing, American cornbread stuffing, yorkshire puddings (not traditional, I know!), brussells, broccoli, carrots.

I am unashamedly doung a proper, old fashioned prawn cocktail for starters. Got a weeny little Xmas pud and some extra thick double cream for me for pudding (only one who will eat t), nice vanilla ice cream for fussy DH and ice cream and gazillions of sprinkles, wafers, sauces etc for kids.

Amothersruin · 23/12/2012 16:12

We are having goose-turkey is for plebsGrin with roast potatoes, mash potatoes, parsnips, carrots, peas, gravy and cranberry sauce. Pudding is guiness pud for dh and champagne trifle for the kids and I.

SnowProbs · 23/12/2012 16:13

I disagree that it is 'disgustng'. Its gluttonous, yes, but its a winter festivl of warmth and light and food, isnt it? I've lost 20lbs this year and eat super-healthily the rest pf the yer, so frankly....fuck it! Cant wait!

TeeElfOnTeeShelf · 23/12/2012 16:15

And gluttony is disgusting.

Good for you for losing 20 lbs this year. How many will you have to lose again after eating all of that?

DontmindifIdo · 23/12/2012 16:17

Whether or not it's 'disgusting' depends on how many people are eating and the quantities of each thing.

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 23/12/2012 16:17

IMO some of you Are BU, with the number of different things to eat I could manage about half a mouthful only of each item

That's the point of the meze. Its like tapas. You have a small amount of different dishes. There wouldn't be a full portion of each per person.

But I don't really see why it bothers you what other people are doing.

bamboostalks · 23/12/2012 16:23

What sort of ovens have you all got? Three roast meats? Where does it all cook and how does it keep warm?

SnowProbs · 23/12/2012 16:25

Wow, the Grinch is alive and on MN! Grin

bradywasmyfavouritewiseman · 23/12/2012 16:25

What sort of ovens have you all got?

We have 4 ovens. The family are all coming to our restaurant. It is closed but we are using it as there will be 15 of us.

Can't wait.

SnowProbs · 23/12/2012 16:26

Do you have granola bars instead of birthday cake, too, Grinch?
