I always thought stories of dh's wrapping skills were exagerated

Until today. There is a story from when he was 13 and bought his dad some shoes. He wrapped them seperately. Since then his mum did all his wrapping until we got together. I love wrapping and for the last 15y I have wrapped, he writes the labels. I assume his mum used to wrap my presents.

He has just wrapped my presents. Both square boxes. And they are awful. It looks like he has just bunched the paper up, and covered them in sellotape.

Still, at least he tried!

ha ha that made me laugh. ive always done dp's wrapping too - i don't think i have received a birthday or xmas present from him that wasn't either wrapped in the carrier bag in which it came, or stuck in a gift bag - so im assuming my dp's wrapping is just as bad. maybe its a man thing

SantasWearingHisTrampyPants · 20/12/2012 23:05

I did consider getting a gift bag but thought "he's a grown man, how bad can it be" answer, very!

Dh pays our dd to wrap my presents so they are wrapped considerably nicer nowadays Grin I wrap everything else (will be finishing it off later)

DeckTheHallsWithBartimaeus · 21/12/2012 07:01

My DB once wrapped our presents with duct tape...

My dad wraps beautifully though. Better than my mum

Oh, I know I'm lucky. But I'm just shocked. I'm going to have to teach him!

I had a friend who was definitely a man.... he used a ruler and exactly cut lengths of sellotape. He folded at exact angles and would re-wrap from the beginning if he wasn't happy with the end results. So crappy wrapping isn't a man thing.

whomovedmychocolate · 21/12/2012 09:08

Introduce him to the joy which is gift bags! Grin

wonkylegs · 21/12/2012 09:15

My dad wraps beautifully and taught me to do it quickly, efficiently & beautifully when I was a kid so that I could help out at Christmas in his shop.
My mum however is awful and usually resorts to a plastic bag or a blanket Hmm. DH goes down the gift bag route.

Startail · 21/12/2012 10:57

My DH wraps more neatly than me, too

SantasWearingHisTrampyPants · 21/12/2012 13:44

Its clearly a dh thing. We have been xmas shopping today and he has got the last of my presents.

I have bought him a selection of giftbags.

My own DH is much better at wrapping than me so i always give him the tricky ones and keep the square boxes for myself.

My mum is shockingingly bad at wrapping presents.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 21/12/2012 14:10

my dh cant wrap presents either

ive tried teaching him... but its just wasted time

SantasWearingHisTrampyPants · 21/12/2012 14:28

It works out ok most of the time. I love wrapping and we have a good system. But christ knows how I'm going to get into that parcel!

Dp is a disaster too. Even squared boxes look like and accident in a gift wrap shop. Too much paper, too much sellotape, all bunched up with bows splattered on to hide the worst tears in the paper.

And he's always bizarrely proud of the send result Xmas HmmXmas Grin

MousyMouse · 21/12/2012 14:39

dh is very good at wrapping presents.
I can only do square boxes without a frustrated tantrum Blush

ArbitraryUsername · 21/12/2012 14:43

DH can wrap presents as well as me. He just doesn't bother. He's promised me that he'll paint the entire hallway between now and new year if I do all the wrapping. This seems like a fairly good deal to me (as I have no intention of standing at the top of a ladder precariously positioned on the stairs).

BabysPointlessPocket · 21/12/2012 15:05

I'm getting better, but am definitely a novice compared to Dh, he's an amazing gift wrapper. Has done all ours for dc and family this year too, the star!

IAmTellingSanta · 21/12/2012 16:10

This might be AIBU, but I told DH he can't wrap my presents from him in any of the wrapping paper we have in the house as I want exciting wrapping paper I haven't been using for the past week.
He said I am definitely BU!

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 21/12/2012 16:13

my DH is too precious.
Xmas Hmm

it takes him 3 hours to wrap something.
Xmas Grin

HoHoHoMoreBaubles · 21/12/2012 16:20

DH tends to not wrap my present at xmas...i usually get it in a carrier bag...still with the receiptXmas Hmm

I made him wrap my prezzie last year and then realised why he never bothersXmas Grin

i have shown him the wonders of gift bags and fancy packaging this yearSmile

SantasWearingHisTrampyPants · 21/12/2012 19:22

I don't mind wrapping my own pressies, I draw the line at writing my own labels though Xmas Wink

piprabbit · 21/12/2012 19:29

DH is fine with wrapping, the end results are more than passable but he doesn't think it looks very good plus he finds it boring.

Which is why I have spent the last 2.5 days gift wrapping, including the 30 individual hamper items for MIL.

MrsHoarder · 21/12/2012 19:50

DH is very good at tidy wrapping. He doesn't believe in things like ribbons or labels though, so we set up a production line. He does perfectly tidy wrapped packages (much neater than me) and I add a label and some ribbon. The first Christmas we were together I realised how he organised presents: he made very discrete marks as to who it was to, none as to who it was from.
