DP is taking DD1&2 out to family for the day so I can sit on the sofa cuddling 5 week old DD3 do a bit of work and start my wrapping. Part of me is excited, part is dreading it!!

Any tips to not get bored after I've wrapped the first present? :)

Another fan of wrapping in the ironing board here - really saves your back & you can do it in front of the tv watching re-runs of Christmas Nigella/Jamie/Delia.

TheOneWithTheHair · 17/12/2012 10:03

I'm going to start my wrapping this week. I can't wait. I've got some lovely ribbon this year too.

I do mine sitting on the floor with the present on the coffee table as I like room to spread out. I used to do it all on Christmas Eve but with 3dcs and dh plus other family I haven't got time to do it all in one night anymore.

bedmonster · 17/12/2012 11:40

I sit on the floor to do mine, If you do it on an ironing board, don't the scissors and selotape and stuff fall off it all the time?

Bertrude · 17/12/2012 12:52

I'm all wrapped up on the ones I've bought already.

Husband has 2 types of paper - one for proper pressies and one for bits so it makes it easier on the day for me to make sure he doesn't open all the awesome ones first and then the bits of tat practical things at the end cos its a bit of an anti climax.

Male friends have one type of paper. Females another type. Then kiddy cartoony paper for the only child we buy for who lives here.

Amazon and John Lewis have done all my wrapping for family. They're very efficient. Expect the stuff I've asked dad to go and buy for my nephew. That'll no doubt be wrapped shoddily because he'll do it himself.

I also have one tree with presents for us under it including the stuff from family back home that my dad brought here whe he visited in November, and the tree in the dining room (where all our mates will be eating Christmas dinner) has ones from us to mates under it so we can open them before dinner.

Oh god, I'm a Christmas Monica, aren't I.

DeckTheHallsWithBartimaeus · 17/12/2012 13:57

I've done it bit by bit (but not finished yet).

It's the first year I've had more than about 5 presents to wrap...because I decided that as it's the first year at ours it would be nice to do stockings for everyone - forgetting that I now have to wrap stocking presents for 5 people instead of just DS Hmm Sad

Still, DH has already wrapped mine and wrapped a couple for his mum so we're getting there. I was a bit Shock as I started getting DS' presents out...I'd forgotten about half of them!

I reckon I've got about half the presents left to go - have to wrap after DS is in bed, otherwise he wants to play with the paper.

dementedma · 17/12/2012 15:19

all done.
DD1s paper is gold, DD2s is silver and DS is blue. No need for farting about with name tags.

Me too. DS has spiderman paper and DD has tinkerbell. All adult presents are going to be tastefully wrapped in red paper with white snowflake ribbon.

betterwhenthesunshines · 17/12/2012 18:20

I want to wrap with glass of mulled wine Xmas Grin but DS is unwell and keeps arriving downstairs unannounced during the evening so I can't risk it.

BeaLola · 17/12/2012 18:41

for the last two years DH has wrapped my presents on Xmas Day ............ & when I say day I mean aboout 4pm after lunch & whilst my lovely Dad is champing at bit to unwrap gifts ! needless to say I wrap everything else . in fact starting tonight as I'm determined not to do any wraping after weekend ..... hmm can see that working !

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 17/12/2012 20:13

All this talk of wrapping has made me get my arse in gear ready for Christmas. I've had one of those Mega Mondays that everyone else did a few weeks ago, ordering lots of stuff online and went to the local garden centre to do a big helping Santa out stocking raid. Felt very Christmassy and beginning to feel half organised now. Hope stuff arrives before the weekend or I'll be panicking ! Wrapping will probably still end up being done on Christmas Eve as per usual Xmas Blush Thanks to MNers and MNHQ for slight kick up the backside whether intended or not Xmas Grin

marriedandwreathedinholly · 17/12/2012 20:43

presents - tick
cards - tick
trees - tick (but not yet baubled)

Have tomorrow off for trees, tidying, getting guest beds ready, family food shop, getting up some cards (I have tried every purchasable supposedly easy way and still find length of red ribbon hung from the tops of all the downstairs doors and a stapler works best [ftedious emoticon] and ironing. Might fit in some wrapping.

On Saturday afternoon we were 5 for Xmas day and 5 for Boxing day. We're now 8 for Xmas day and 9 for boxing day. sooooo pleased I never pre-order the turkey Xmas Grin

Juggling - I never thought I'd see you use the word arse Xmas Shock.

fuzzpig · 17/12/2012 20:46

DH wrapped all my tree presents today. Using all the same paper, which has ballsed up my system

(He did use the stocking specific paper for the stocking fillers though so I can forgive him. Sort of.

Did an 8.30-7 shift today (work I mean, not wrapping :o) so am far too knackered to do any tonight!

iloveholidays · 17/12/2012 20:51

Thinking I might need to get some more wrapping paper ready to do the DDs stockings so they can have different paper. I'd planned to finish it off tomorrow, but had forgotten that DP has his Christmas do and as DD3 doesn't settle until late I can't see me getting any done... Will have to do it Wednesday. Need to pull it all out, work out who's is who's and then wrap... Hoping it will only take a couple of hours!

Wrapped stocking presents in different paper for each dc and promptly forgot who had which think dd1 is penguin, dd2 robins, ds is definitely snowmen + FC have wrapped their tree presents in different paper to those which FC has used, but not particularly colour coded. Need to put labels on them though, maybe dh can do that. Currently in different places/bags.

Have wrapped my family's presents, just doing some for my friends now, then it is just the presents from dc to dh and dc to each other. Dh is getting an exercise bike, so that doesn't need to be wrapped.

Dh has wrapped.... Nothing!

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 17/12/2012 21:18

< waves to married...holly >

I did cross it out though Xmas Blush

Your cards sound lovely ! We only have a few so far but have a nice Victorian style robin garland that we hang along the stair banisters and pop them on there. Whist out at the garden centre I bought some mistletoe and some greenery (ivy and cyclamen etc) in a basket for the mantelpiece too, which is helping me feel festive Xmas Smile

marriedandwreathedinholly · 17/12/2012 21:28

I need to try a Victorian style robin garland for the bannisters. Where did you get it?

I detest putting up the cards - stand them up - they fall over; put them on cardboard tree things - they collapse; put them on strings around the picture rails - the strings get dislodged and I can't get them to look symetrical. ......thinks about blue tacking them just behind and to the sides of pictures - that could work? Actually I'm going to try that tomorrow - it could be success. Thanks for helping me think that one through. I still detest the cards though - love getting them - it's the displaying.

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 17/12/2012 21:46

Ah, we often blu-tack cards all over our doors - that can make quite a colourful and easy display ? (In fact that was always one of my jobs as a teenager !) We don't seem to have that many this year, perhaps because we don't send many - but maybe fewer people are sending them recently anyway ? Must get DC's to send a few to their friends this week ...
Robin garland is quite a simple little thing from the Museum catalogue which I confess to being quite fond of - even though it makes me feel like I'm getting old to say so Xmas Smile

nannyof3 · 17/12/2012 23:03

Christmas songs in the background?

marriedandwreathedinholly · 17/12/2012 23:09

We have too many of the buggers - maybe because I ground my way through 150 on Saturday, including DH's business one. Xmas Sad. Got two today whom I thought we could strick Xmas Shock off the list.

I love Christmas Xmas Smile. It's just such hard work Xmas Sad. Roll on boxing day. Our BFs are coming - God help the cats - they always bring the dogs [aagh emoticon].

nannyof3 · 17/12/2012 23:40

Me and DP sat at the table at wrapped for 4 hours solid !!!

fuzzpig · 18/12/2012 18:36

Hurrah, DH is out tonight (having father son time watching the hobbit!) so I can wrap his presents.

marriedandwreathedinholly · 18/12/2012 20:53

Trees baubled - tick
Wreath on front door - tick
60 cards ribboned and up - tick
guest rooms ready - tick
40 socks paired - tick
family food shop (and some Xmas goodies) - tick

ironing - nope
wrapping - nope

wine poured - tick
tired - tick

JugglingMeYorkiesAndNutRoast · 18/12/2012 23:14

Ooh, I'm jealous of your Christmas wreath on front door - ours has no hook (though possibly could fix that)
Also of your 40 pairs of matched socks, that would never happen here although I'm sure we have 80 socks somewhere Xmas Grin

Did my first wrapping today to put thread back on the rails ....

fuzzpig · 19/12/2012 06:25

Didn't get any wrapping done. Spent the evening feeling rubbish instead! What a waste.
