What the hell can I buy DH???

CrazyChristmasLady · 26/11/2012 13:31

We only have a £50 budget. I have already given him £25 towards clothes as he has lost weight and is in desperate need. I have given him another £5 for a case for his new phone.

Now I am left with £20, plus I need to spend another £10 on a present from the kids (DS is insisting on socks, DH wouldn't really appreciate that).

I have no idea!!

He has no hobbies, he is already buying himself clothes and he doesn't tend to like the stuff I would pick, ie slightly trendy and actually nice as oppose to the usual shapeless jeans and plain t shirts he always wears.

He likes DVDs but we literally have 100's, actually more like a couple 1000 so I do not want anymore. There is no room on the shelves. He doesn't read, only in the bath which is a rarity and he has plenty of books that he has yet to go through therefore I am not buying him anymore.

He is on a diet so no fancy food.

He doesn't do sports. He does need to exercise and I suggested a swimming voucher as money is very tight and he can't really afford it. This suggestion was not met with the greatest of enthusiasm.

I bought him a nice new wallet for his birthday as oppose to the bloody South Park crap one he has now and he hasn't used it.

He has an Xbox but still has games from his birthday that he hasn't played yet. He isn't into the COD games, he likes the Lego Star Wars, that sort of thing.

The only things he does is go to work (I bought some ties last year but he tends to wear the same one every day), help out with the kids, watch tv and go on the PC.

That is it. He has a car, but there isn't anything I can get.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this the most difficult man to buy for?

Gloves
Swimming googles
This poster
Mug
Pants

CrazyChristmasLady · 26/11/2012 13:41

He never actually goes swimming. He started to with a friend once and when the friend couldn't make it, he stopped and I haven't been able to get him to go since. If he did, he definitely wouldn't wear goggles.

He has gloves.

I really don't want posters in the house. Grin We spent years in rented flats with it looking like student type digs. Now we have a house I have got it looking like an adult home! A mean feat with DH as he still wants our Simpson figures displayed all over the walls.

He doesn't drink tea at home and has a mug from the kids that I bought him 1 fathers day.

Pants would probably not be appreciated. He hates clothes as presents and I would pick nice pants as oppose to the shite he actually wears, therefore he woudn't wear them.

So frustrating. I can normally come up with something but this year I am stumped.

He wants the Olympic DVD but I just know it is going to join the other couple of thousand DVDs and just sit on the shelf. So far I am refusing to buy it.

I could get him back for the car window squeegy that I got though (he did get me other things though).

Keep the ideas coming. There has to be something I haven't thought of.

Voucher for somewhere he can go out with the kids/family
Love Film voucher/membership
cinema vouchers
iphone cover personalised with the kids' picture
desktop calendar with photos of kids
funky egg cup Grin

thirdfromleft · 26/11/2012 14:01

Leatherman utility tool
DIY equipment (tools)
aftershave
Cufflinks
Black shirt (sounds like the type?)
Cinema tickets
Mazeball (since he's into games)
Make-your-own-wine / beer kit

CrazyChristmasLady · 26/11/2012 14:06

Voucher isn't a bad idea, but I know what he is like. He will see that as something for the family and not for him. His presents have to be something (not practical apparently) for him.

I honestly don't think he would use a love film voucher. He never watches the DVDs he does have. They seem to be some sort of decoration for our living room. (Note, I never dare mention that I once semi liked a film, otherwise he will buy it on DVD and it will then sit on the shelf because now I am an adult, I don't like the film that much).

Could get cinema vouchers, but again, he would see that as a joint present because it would be for me as well and the last time we got vouchers we used them on the very last day before they expired because there was nothing we wanted to see.

He doesn't have an iphone.

Desktop calender might be good, or a desk photo cube thing. Not sure if he actually uses a desk in work. He works in a lab so is often here there and everywhere doing other stuff. I'll have to check on that.

He doesn't eat eggs. He likes them but I don't. I said I will cook them if he buys them but apparently I don't do them right. So he just doesn't buy them.

I am still appreciating the suggestions though! Smile

He doesn't wear aftershave, I enquired on this recently and he just looked at me (no type of grooming whatsoever, shaves once a month if I am lucky).

His shirts are buttoned so no cufflinks needed, shame as I have seen some great ones around.

Doesn't drink alcohol. We threw away the last case of cider he had as it went out of date.

Rarely does DIY, getting him to put a shelf up is a mammoth nagging task. He has the tools he does need. I did buy him the fancy tile cutter last year when he did the kitchen, but I'm pretty sure he has the stuff he needs as he just bought a few bits, when I offered to give him the money as a Christmas present, I got the look that said "oh look, another crap practical present"

Grrrrrrrrrr.

Luckily next year we will hopefully be moving and I have said we have agreed that we will not do presents and save the money.

Good luck finding something, this sounds a nightmare. My Dh seems a dream to buy compared to yours Shock

dinkystinky · 26/11/2012 14:14

digital photoframe with pictures of the kids?

CrazyChristmasLady · 26/11/2012 14:18

He really wanted a digital photo frame before. I bought a beautiful one that was a bargain.

Its in the loft somewhere, still in the box. He is adamant he will use it though.

OP posts:
Taffeta · 26/11/2012 14:21

I got DH a digital photo frame - Play.com had them for £20.
How long is his car journey? CD or something for the car?

Taffeta · 26/11/2012 14:22

Oh. x-post. Does he have an SDcard for it?

Maybe buy him an SDcard if not and set it all up. Fish it out of loft, download photos onto it for him. Then wrap it.

Taffeta · 26/11/2012 14:23

Magazine subscription?

poozlepants · 26/11/2012 14:29

Does he have the kinnect thingy for his xbox? Then you could get him one of those dance games which is good excercise.

A star wars lego torch - www.johnlewis.com/231517991/Product.aspx?s_kwcid=ppc_pla&tmad=c&tmcampid=73

They were on offer in Sainsburys I think. You can get a small keyring one as well and also a Darth Vader alarm clock.

dinkystinky · 26/11/2012 14:32

Star wars lego alarm clock?

TotallyEggFlipped · 26/11/2012 14:33

Make him some vouchers to redeem for hugs/kisses/a blow job/his choice of movie/absolute control of the doofer for an evening/a romantic meal out etc to be used over the next year.

Or more seriously try the gift finder on www.firebox.com. I have had my eye on the evil hot gummi bears for a while.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 26/11/2012 14:39

Sat nav update DVD for the car?

mollymole · 26/11/2012 14:40

'He wants the Olympics DVD' - there is your answer. Just because you do not want it, why should he not have it.

Otherwise he sounds like a total arse - sorry to insult your DH but your posting makes it sound as if he is a really awkward, ungtaeful person.

Arithmeticulous · 26/11/2012 15:24

This

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 26/11/2012 15:24

Agree with ^^ get him the Olympics dvd. Or some weights/dumbbells and/or exerise/dance game!

We resorted to kids' games last year, things like Twister, fun for everyone.

MrsHoarder · 26/11/2012 15:30

Photo book of the kids? It will sit on a shelf but offers protection against hard disk failures and is nice to flick through occasionally.

puddinghead · 26/11/2012 16:15

Sorry to be blunt but he sounds very boring. So how about a boring voucher from M&S for some more boring items of clothing? Or a self help book "how to get motivated to appear more interesting".

Prizepudding · 26/11/2012 16:30

Graze box subscription, it's fairly healthy and you can get for x months then cancel easily.
