Very ethical & traditional Traid Craft one bought from Oxfam shop.

Am sure my DS would prefer a Bart Simpson one from the £ shop Grin.

For years we had a felt Christmas tree one with pockets that you hung the decorations from.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 16/11/2012 17:08

They don't as they are not here full time. However I have a Lindt one which will be bought on 2nd December when they go down to half price.....

(I also have a religious one with no chocolate!)

smoothieooo · 16/11/2012 17:13

I'm with you there amother. My calendars will also be bought on Dec 2nd (half price hopefully) and will be of the crappy Cadbury variety. My DC will not care about beautiful, traditional, aesthetically pleasing calendars. They want a cheap bit of choc every day before Christmas.

Catsmamma · 16/11/2012 17:13

ds1 has a string of santa stockings numbered from 1-24
dd has one i made, one of those cut out and sew ones with a picture and patterned pockets
ds2 has a christmas tree one with pockets

I fill them with chocolate pennies. :D

and now I shall confess the children are 20, 17 and 15, and I have had to buy another for ds1's flatmate cos his mother doesn't have one for him as they are coming to dog sit the first weekend of December

attheendoftheday · 16/11/2012 17:21

Last year I dd had one with pictures, this year I've got her a reusable one with little by buckets. I'll fill it with little toys, stickers etc.

I suspect she'll want a chocolate one in years to come but I'm determined to inflict the type of calender I like while she's little.

Mousefunk · 16/11/2012 17:36

A wooden Santa Sleigh one Grin TKMAXX had some nice fairtrade ones, I almost bought one for me.

GimmeIrnBru · 17/11/2012 07:59

The Playmobil one and Lego one. Instead of chocolate, there is a toy in each day's slot when they open it.

LemonMousse · 17/11/2012 08:11

Just chocolate ones here.

DD2(12) a 'One Direction' one.

DD1(14) a 'Milky Bar' one (her favourite chocolate)

and for DS(20) 'Moshi Monsters' Grin

hurricanewyn · 17/11/2012 08:14

Chocolate ones here too - Moshi monsters for DD & Mario for DS.

We also have a printable Father Christmas with numbers where his beard is. The DC will glue a cotton wool ball on each morning until his beard is full.

Afrodizzywonders · 17/11/2012 08:23

I bought this one that folds out to fill our window, really cute, tonnes for my 2 year old to look at, and a great price too.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 17/11/2012 14:01

Cadbury ones courtesy of my mum Smile I like that they look more christmassy than the character ones. And more importantly because my mum has got them both advent calenders I don't have to bother!

chocolatespiders · 17/11/2012 14:05

Afrod- that's lovely.. doesn't look like it is available now which is a shame

nicdavies · 26/11/2012 15:55

loads of friends have decided to get an advent calendar game for the phone instead of a sweet or toy one, like this one. itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pixel-smash-christmas-edition/id577425431?mt=8

Keeps them quiet for an hour and doesn't rot their teeth! Plus its a lot cheaper

Pancakeflipper · 26/11/2012 15:57

I dunno yet cos' DP had bought them.

I think it's Lego!!! Oh I hope it is. Hope he got me one never ever bought Lego ones before cos they are a silly too high price

Floralnomad · 26/11/2012 16:00

My DCs are 13 and 19 and this year we are sharing a Lego advent calendar . The dogs got one with rawhide chews in . I can't think of anything worse than replacing an advent calendar with an app, and I'm addicted to my iPad .

InMySpareTime · 26/11/2012 16:00

Felt with pockets.
I got a 100 piece jigsaw, and will put 2 pieces each DC each day, so Christmas morning they'll get the final 4 pieces to finish the jigsaw.

insanityscratching · 26/11/2012 16:11

Dd has a Cadburys one, a milky bar one and a Beano one and then a Moshi monster one with little figures in (much too generous siblings here so I won't buy her one Grin)

Lego city for ds and Lego Friends for dd.

CustardIsMyNemesis · 26/11/2012 19:19

DD has a £1 Disney Princess one filled with super cheap and nasty cooking chocolate.

She is 4 and will eat about 5 pieces of chocolate before the novelty wears off. But she's happy with it which is all that matters

ISeeThreadPeople · 26/11/2012 19:27

We have a fabric one made out of lots of little stockings which comes out every year.

We also buy a traditional one each year (pictures, no chocolate I'm afraid).

olivo · 26/11/2012 20:04

Moshi monsters for DD 6 and Peppa pig for DD 3. They were presents. I have got them a playmobil one to share and I'm very excited!

twolittledarlings · 26/11/2012 22:18

Wooden advent one from Costco with drawers all round the side and inside there are 24 miniature tree decs for the tree in the middle of this advent calendar

Also 2 Moshi monsters ones for my two dd9 and dd11.

Would prefer no chocolates as they have never liked the taste of those chocs.

VoterColonelSebastianDoyle · 26/11/2012 22:23

My dd (2) has got 2 a hello kitty one and a milkybar one. I habe a Cadbury one Grin

twolittledarlings · 26/11/2012 22:36

Last year, I made my own as my daughters a the year before had Lego and they do not like chocolates much.

So made 24 little bags and used pen markers and wrote dates on the front.
Inside, I filled them with little things like pens, highlighters, tippex, pritt stick, Sellotape, plasters, hair accessories, mini torches, pencil case, staplers, small boxes of paper clips, mini notebooks, erasers, sharpeners, lipbalms, packs of tissues, hand warmers, bookmarks, miniature handcream, mini nail scissors, nail files, etc.

They really looked forward opening their advent bags every day. Made them finished their breakfast first. Used wrapping paper to make the bags so bags were different shape and size, selotaped them all round then dated them and hang them up on a line indoors with mini gold and silver pegs.

Got loads from Wilkinsons and the pound shop. Spent more in all than 2 boxes of Lego advent, I think around £60 but all those things were very useful and they still have loads left so am stuck this year with stocking fillers.
