John Adams bloody chocolate coin maker

DS2 (3) is desperate for one - he never really asks for anything other than chocolate and has seen this on the telly and really wants it. The reviews on amazon are dire and I have tried to talk him out of it but can't.
Are they a total waste if money? Any alternatives? Or do I just buy it knowing it'll be a disastrous 5 minute wonder?

It is the biggest waste of money! We bought one for Dd a few years ago, absolute tat!

My kids bought one at the church fair a few years ago. I resent the £1 they paid for it as it is so dreadful!

We bought one at the school fair and it is rubbish. You spend ages making just one chocolate coin! I wouldn't mind if it was a 5 minute wonder, but it's more an hour long, frustrating wait.

why not get some fun chocolate and choccy lolly moulds instead?

they are 4 for 3 there and have dinosaurs and all sorts x

Don't do it. Such a pain. They take over an hour to make just 4 coins. I'm tempted to give DDs to the charity shop!

What a good idea Tomsbentpinky. I had to dissuade DD last year, have never heard a good word about that machine!

You could make a little hamper with the moulds, lolly sticks, bars of choc, decoraions, cellophane wrappers, ribbon ect

much more exciting!

My little one has been asking for this since march, so i went out and paid £20 for it. A month later it was in home bargains for £5.99. So if you do decide to get it I would get it there.

There are a few Chocolate Coin Makers out there. The John Adams one is pretty good.

Don't waste your money. 4 hours work for 4 coins, fiddle pieces to wash up all for a bit of melted and reset cadburys.
Absolute shit.
Ours was used once then thrown into the wheelie bin.
I'm gobsmacked that you can buy these secondhand, the original owners must have laughed heartily saying goodbye to that piece of crap.
Read the Amazon reviews. They don't lie.

DS wanted it, i read the reviews and got a lolly maker instead. Much better.

It's beyond crap

This has reminded me that DD once had a "real oven that bakes cakes".

A similar story ...... it made one tiny fairy cake but took several hours to make because it had been cooked by the power of a lightbulb!!

I'm still pained by the memories of it.

My son wants the chocolate lolly maker and it's one of the few things he asks for too.

I guess it's the modern day equivalent of mr frosty.

I bought one in a charity shop just to demonstrate to DC how utterly shit it is so they could learn not to believe adverts.

It is pure shite. My four year old has pleaded for it but I've told him that Santa won't get it for him as it is so rubbish! Harsh but true. (Oldest son is 12 so have been there, done that.)

Lidl had nice Christmas silicone moulds for chocolate the other day. Haven't used yet as waiting for the kids to break up.

chanie, the lolly maker is better. From memory, it's just a straight forward mould. And by this point, I'd learnt to bypass melting chocolate buttons on a thimbleful of warm water and headed straight for the microwave.
