DS2 (3) is desperate for one - he never really asks for anything other than chocolate and has seen this on the telly and really wants it. The reviews on amazon are dire and I have tried to talk him out of it but can't.
Are they a total waste if money? Any alternatives? Or do I just buy it knowing it'll be a disastrous 5 minute wonder?

There are lots of very poor reviews on
Amazon

If he insists, trawl the charity shops. I have seen loads - bought one for £1. It was utter shiteSmile

mabelbabel · 06/12/2014 08:42

Just to add to the hamper idea - I've done this before and it was well received. Also Lakeland sell a small silicone jug perfect for melting choc in microwave and then pouring. It's about £4.

BeattieBow · 06/12/2014 08:47

its so crap don't get it! We got one a few years ago.

FoxSticks · 06/12/2014 09:23

It definitely is the Mr Frosty of the future. I do still harbour resentment towards my Mum and Dad for not getting me one Grin Maybe it is crap, but maybe they need to discover that for themselves?

Lifesalemon · 06/12/2014 10:14

norbert we had that oven too. The cake wasn't even edible.

NorbertDentressangle · 06/12/2014 12:53

I'm glad someone else knows what pain and suffering we went through Lifesalemon.

What made the oven even worse was the fact the DC couldn't even watch the cake "cooking" for what seemed like half a day as it was covered with the foil box thing!

Tabthecat · 16/12/2014 10:15

Mr Frosty that certainly brings back memories from when I was a kid FoxSticks! John Adams does the Golden Coin Maker www.chocolatecoinmaker.com and the www.chocolatelollymaker.net which are pretty good in my opinion. DamselNotInHerDress I found that if you crumble up the chocolate first then it melts a lot more quickly in what is provided in the kit Wink

mypoosmellsofroses · 16/12/2014 10:22

Oh God, do they still sell these? Years ago, must be at least 10 years, DS2 pleaded and pleaded for this and I caved. It was shite and he lost interest immediately. On another note, I still want a Mr Frosty (My Mum never caved, not such a soft touch as me obvs) and you can buy them still, have sent DH a not so subtle hinting email with a link :)

CMOTDibbler · 16/12/2014 10:31

Ds begged and pleaded for the easter egg maker. It was rubbish and went in the bin after one use. That and the slushy cup thing have done one good thing though, as at 8 he is now incredibly sceptical about adverts

Tabthecat · 16/12/2014 10:33

What? You can buy Mr Frosty and you're sure it isn't secondhand? Link please! Shock

mypoosmellsofroses · 16/12/2014 10:38

Mr Frosty Here:

Still time to order for Christmas :)

slippermaiden · 16/12/2014 10:39

You can buy chocolate lolly moulds in wilko, Lakeland and probably other places...they look like more fun ??

shakemysilliesout · 16/12/2014 11:25

When I'm PM I'm going to ban mr frosty. Shut that whole operation down.

TheStick · 16/12/2014 13:59

My wee one was desperate for the chocolate coin maker but it was sold out so she got the chocolate lolly maker. So crap it's unbelievable, we used it once to make one lolly and it hasn't seen the light of day since.
