Is buying a 'Lord' or 'Lady' title naff?

Just that really.

Can't decide. Think I know a couple of people who would love being called a Lord or Lady.

Would you find it naff if you were on the receiving end?

Yes

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 22/09/2012 20:59

God yes,

mellen · 22/09/2012 21:00

Are you David Cameron?

If it is an actual title bought by large bung to a political party then I would say not really naff, but unethical. If it is one of the cheap one where you buy 1 sq foot of land on someones estate and a title, then it is naff IMO

expatinscotland · 22/09/2012 21:00

YES!

BizarreLoveTriangle · 22/09/2012 21:01

Definitely.
But they might feel differently.

LittleBearPad · 22/09/2012 21:02

Absolutely

NorbertDentressangle · 22/09/2012 21:02

Yes.

Beyond naff.

rhondajean · 22/09/2012 21:03

Depends if they would think its a laugh or not!

I did once meet someone who called themselves lady x having bought one of these.

nocake · 22/09/2012 21:04

Not only naff but also pointless. It's pretty much impossible to buy a title and most websites that sell them are scams.

fivegomadindorset · 22/09/2012 21:04

Yes

phlebas · 22/09/2012 21:05

utterly Shock

vigglewiggle · 22/09/2012 21:05

I would, but if you know them and think they would love it, then go for it!

IamtheZombie · 22/09/2012 21:06

Yes.

And, Zombie has received one...

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 22/09/2012 21:08

BlushBlushBlushBlush

Well, I would find it naff for me.

Ha! Just thought-I would be LadyBoys!!!

But the couple I'm thinking of are in their early 20's-don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your honesty mnrs!

I would absolutely hate it tbh!

Some people like it, I know someone who isn't wealthy but thinks they should be and doesnt come from a really posh family, but thinks he is really posh Grin - he'd love it

FancyBread · 22/09/2012 21:11

Oh Lordy! that is Extremely naff. In fact I think it's a naff title to use even if it is a proper inherited title. It should only be used by people elected or fairly appointed to a role such as the Lord Mayor of London.

I do not like inherited titles of any kind. I don't want anyone Lording over me just because they were born into a titled family.

GoldandOrangeAnnunziata · 22/09/2012 21:12

I think I'd rather be a Baron!

Em, yes! But if you know their sense of humour then why not?

AuraofDora · 22/09/2012 21:12

very much so, unless the title was Lord or Lady Naff, then that is quite cool
realistically I cant see it being the start of a meteoric rise into society life either
my sister seriously consider buying a Contessa title, even she thought better of it, in the end

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 22/09/2012 21:12

Unspeakably so

hmc · 22/09/2012 21:13

Yes

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2012 21:14

It's all eco and green, actually. A way to protect the land from developers, and to maintain and improve it now.

scottishmummy · 22/09/2012 21:14

what a hoot
I'd buy one
lady scottishmummy

DinosaursOnASpaceship · 22/09/2012 21:15

I would so love to buy one of these for my dc.

I am naff though and I don't care Smile

Where would a naff person such as myself get one of these?

IamtheZombie · 22/09/2012 21:16

The Manorial Society of Great Britain, Dinosaurs.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 22/09/2012 21:18

On my link just abive, Dinosaurs.

Btw, on "watched threads" it looks as if Zombie is calling the Manorial Society dinosaurs! Grin
