Just a thread to share ideas.

Loads of basic lego (used, from ebay)

littlest pet shop treehouse and some extra pets

Rainbow fairies sticker books and annual

old fashioned musical jewellery box with twirling ballerina

old fashioned kaleidoscope

Disney princesses nightie

A load of pretty hair clips and toy jewellery, much of it hello kitty themed

Are you serious? Grin

stargirl1701 · 27/08/2012 19:49

You are kidding, right?!

BlitzenAndVixen · 27/08/2012 20:00

Umm...no, I'm not. I just like starting early and getting bargains when I see them. I get a bit overexcited about Christmas since having DD Blush

I still think this is a joke. It's not about starting early. Don't you think that you've bought far too much?Grin

BlitzenAndVixen · 27/08/2012 21:09

Oh, have I ?

it's what, 18 presents? some of which are pretty small - kaleidascope, hairclips, nightie, sticker books? I see people on here who have happily bought older children ps3, tv etc. the maxi scooter is something we'd be buying anyway, it just makes sense to give it at xmas as that's about when she'd outgrown her mini micro. And she won't get anything else - our parents are dead and we agreed with siblings years ago that we don't exchange presents. Oh, and she's an only. Feel a bit crestfallen now Sad

DD1 will be nearly 5 at Christmas and she's getting a Maxi Micro scooter and some little odds and sods. Her birthday is two weeks after so we have to spread it out.

JoyceDivision · 27/08/2012 21:15

DD is getting playmobil paddling pool from us.

On offer at amoazon £25

That is it Grin

bamboostalks · 27/08/2012 21:16

I am getting dd some dress up shoes too. From Disneystore. Tangled ones. She will be thrilled. Not sure re main present. Will be getting sticky mosaics. Also Barbie Princess Rockstar Costume and DVD. Think I will get Mil to get Barbie limo. Got some little bits from last years stoking that I didn't put in as felt she had enough.

Kate1573 · 27/08/2012 21:18

We used to do the same for our girls Blitzen. 'Main' present would come from us, the rest in a big sack from Santa. We have a very small family aswell so they only had one or two other presents.

chipsandbeans · 27/08/2012 21:23

I confess my kids get quite a lot too, I buy things all year round and put them away. They only get presents from me, they have nothing else all year round and if they want things they either save their pocket money or they put it on the b'day or xmas list.. It seems fine to me, when I was a child we had no presents at Xmas for about 4 years as my mum was single and v skint, maybe I over compensate as I remember the feeling of trying to be really brave and not be bothered so that she wouldn't feel bad.

Dosey · 27/08/2012 22:19

Blitzen that sounds like a lovely sack of pressies my 5 and 6 year old dd would love all that. I too love buying for mine. Christmas and birthdys is the only time they get pressies. You enjoy yourself x

winnybella · 27/08/2012 22:26

That's a lovely list and it makes sense to buy throughout the year (I always start to panic-buy few days before Christmas even though I promise myself every year to get it done before Dec). And it doesn't strike me like too many gifts if that's all she'll be getting.

sunnyday123 · 27/08/2012 22:52

That's a fab list! My dds are almost 5 and 7 and I love buying them stuff! Between us and the Rest of the family they get spoilt rotten at Christmas but its one day a year and I see no harm if you can afford it. I aim for 17-18 presents plus stockings too.

TooManyDaisies · 28/08/2012 01:04

Wow. My dd will be the same age at Christmas and she would love that list of presents! Wow.

If she was on mn she'd be pming you and asking about adoption Smile

NCForNow · 28/08/2012 01:11

It's not too many. As OP says, colouring books and clips are stocking fillers!

Am rather worried myself as I have a 4 and a half year old who is VERY easy to please and a more technically aware 8 year old...both DDs. Older one wnts an iPod Touch...which basically takes up 2 thirds of her budget.

But imagine the marvelous CRAP I could buy younger DD for same money!

I will have to buy younger DD some piece of toddler technorama and then top them both up with bits of tat!

JustSpiro · 28/08/2012 01:27

My DD (8) gets a similar number of presents. We don't usually get her a 'big' present - maybe 4-6 items around the £10 mark, and a stocking of bits and pieces.

I say 'we' but it's actually me as DH doesn't get involved at all - he is of the opinion that she should get one present and a tangerine I think.

I have compromised in that she has a fairly modestly sized 'Santa sack' (could probably get about 4 large board games in it) and a stocking which I store the presents in as I buy them and I don't allow myself any 'overflow'.

Although I did get round that last year by putting all the Build-a-Bear clothes in a separate stocking with her bear's name on it Blush Grin!

JustSpiro · 28/08/2012 08:55

Tbh, as tragic as it sounds, the bear is like a second child, and I indulge it a bit as DD was always quite fickle with her cuddlies until she got this one at a friends birthday last year.

She comes everywhere with us.

As luck would have it, bear's birthday is 3 days before DD's too Wink...

IWanders · 28/08/2012 09:04

A Barbie I had bought a boxed set from Amazon but the seller e-mailed to say stock quantities were wrong so couldn't deliver, gutted. So bought a £3.50 one from Tesco as a main gift and 10 stocking fillers from mummy martins as its great for stocking fillers.

I would like to buy a large joint present for all my dc but haven't found the right thing and if I don't small gifts are fine. :)

sunnyday123 · 28/08/2012 09:06

my dds are the same - they love build a bear ! i don't mind though as its something other than plastic :) they usually get vouchers for there off 1 or 2 people for birthday and xmas which i like as its like a day out for them! i do have to make sure they get enough though as you cant go in without spending a fair bit as they want everything!

Vagaceratops · 28/08/2012 14:33

My DD is 4 and she would love that list!

NCForNow · 28/08/2012 15:30

I am thinking of making some presents for them. I sew well and I said to my Mum the other day that I was thinking of making them both a big turtle patchwork floor cushion. And she said "For Christms?" and I thought....hmmm...maybe!

I am thinking it is a cheaper way of having a big gift out for them both.

mumdebump · 28/08/2012 21:25

Shock at the OP's list. Nice ideas but just seems huge amount of presents.

JustSpiro · 28/08/2012 21:42

Sunny BABW has become a bit of a bonkers family thing for us. After DD got hers, DH bought one for her to give to MIL for Christmas and they started going on shopping trips there every couple of months. Then MIL got one for FIL (!), and I suspect I am getting one from DD for my birthday next month! Grin

NCForNow · 28/08/2012 23:57

mumdebump It's about 18 gifts...not as many as if you hold a birthday party for your child and the whole class come.
