Hello,

Our baby boy is due on the 8th of December, I know he wont remember his first christmas but it would be nice to get him some things, maybe something that he can keep. Any ideas what I could get him?

What about a really special Christmas tree ornament, with year on it?

I get a different one for my DD every year so that when she is an adult and has her own tree, she will have a ready made, very special collection each with their own history/story.

littlemissbroody26 · 21/07/2012 21:29

aww whattodoo thats a lovely idea, i have some tears just thinking of how lovely that will be (i blame the hormones!)

My daughter was due on 8th Dec 2011 - she came on the 2nd so your post made me a bit misty eyed (maybe that's the wine!). I got her a lovely santas sack that we'll use for years to come and a few other bits that's weren't to keep. In the end I was so caught up with dealing with trying to breastfeed with her tongue tie so it didn't come out! Didn't matter though :)

Wishing you all the best, was amazing to have a little bundle at Christmas.

Aaaaaaaah, snuggly new Christmas Baby.

My (not so little ) boy was born 7th Dec at the Millenium Christmas (13 this year)

I'm pretty sure I bought him presents but I honestly can't remember that Christmas much (he was the original 15 minutes sleep type)

A bauble for him is a lovely idea and that can be the first of his annual decoration.
Mine buy a new one each year.

And some really lovely washy stuff (L'Occitane ,Body Shop,Phillip Kingsley) for that special Christmas Eve bath.

Ah my second is due on 8 December!! I will probably buy a tree ornament and a stocking with some rattles etc in it.

Scout19075 · 22/07/2012 11:37

In addition to the sappy things like ornaments can I suggest a few toys for the baby to grow into? Since it's birthday and Christmas will be so close together you won't want to wait for his/her birthday for toys.

Things like stacking cups, rattles, a mat/gym thing, shape sorter, rings, etc. Toddler was only 6-7 weeks old on his first Christmas and Santa brought him a stocking full of toys for him to grow into (with his baby gym/mat thing being his "main present" from his parents). You'll know when your baby is ready for "toys" and then you won't have a mad scramble to find them.

We bought dd an ornament (and every year since), a stocking (just a couple of fabric books/a rattle etc in it) to last her whole childhood and a lava lamp. She loved looking at that lava lamp as a baby and now she's 5yo she still has it in her bedroom and loves the fact that I bought it for her for her very first Christmas.

We bought ds an antilop highchair and er, a bauble and, um, that's it.

littlemissbroody26 · 22/07/2012 13:51

That's great advice, thank you!

The idea of something special like a decoration for the tree is lovely, I hope we mannage to keep up with the tradition!

The idea of toys is great, I hadn't considered that, it will be an entire year before their next birthday so toys will be needed before then.

Happy 20 weeks today saxony! half way there :)

eak I can't wait for christmas!!

I got a really beautiful large stocking. It's all satin with a big old fashioned Father Christmas print and all hand beaded and stuff. It's lovely and I still have it all these years later!

everydayaschoolday · 25/07/2012 02:35

A First Day Cover of the Christmas stamps from the royal mail would be nice for their first christmas, usually around £7. Design is not advertised yet, but should come online around Nov see here: www.royalmail.com/personal/stamps-and-collecting

Letter from Santa is almost a must! NSPCC do a 1st Christmas letter in return for a donation (£5?). Not advertised yet, but again will come online nearer to christmas. www.nspcc.org.uk/

A silver coin, or baby's first set of coins from the Royal Mint are a lovely keepsake. www.royalmint.com/our-coins/occasion/births-and-christenings

hope my links work Smile

Reindeer outfit or at least some humiliating booties.

Lamaze toys are good - high contrast and they clip onto buggy/carseat

honeytea · 25/07/2012 13:00

What lovely ideas! I am thinking I need to get the baby as christmas elf outfit as we call him Elfie (not as his actual name but as a nn whilst he is in my tummy)

the santa letter is a fab idea!

In a tearful hormone haze, I sent DH out on Christmas Eve (!) to buy DS a present for Christmas. Of course DS being 8 days old at the time remembers every second of it.

DH bought a fabulous wooden fire engine. DS loves it, we love it and it's substantial enough to hopefully be passed down in turn.

or depending on budget, how about one of these?

solid silver christmas tree decorations

CalamityJones · 25/07/2012 13:06

I got my dd a beautiful copy of The Night Before Christmas and wrote a note in telling her that we would read it together every Christmas Eve.

honeytea · 25/07/2012 13:09

something for them to grow into is a lovely idea :)

CherryMonster · 26/07/2012 19:08

how about the hamleys or harrods 2012 christmas bear? not as expensive as i expected at £25 for the harrods one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/07/2012 20:48

Swaroski (sp) Crystal release a decoration every year (beautiful but ££)

I bought some lovely The Snowman porcelain decorations years ago.

chirpchirp · 01/08/2012 22:37

We have a ceramic place near by and have a bauble with DS's hand and foot print on it. I made him a sock monkey and he got a Sophie la Giraffe from us.

His grandparents/aunties and uncles spoils him rotten what with him being the first grandchild.

Sighingagain · 01/08/2012 22:42

I'm due Christmas day (eek) - bump has a moulin roti toy, baby signing kit and a baby gym (new but at second hand prices).

Love the idea of baubles with hand and foot print - I'm another one who gets special decoration for each dc each year - we do a Christmas thing every day in December and one of our "things" is picking the decoration.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 19/08/2012 07:40

I got my ds2 a taggie with his name and date of birth on. Will try and find a link. He is 5 years now and still has it in bed every night. He actually has 3 but he took this one to nursery for his sleep times as it was clearly his!

If you're wanting to buy a toy for a young baby, my nephew (born end of september, so 3 months-ish) most enjoyed this. Toys for later that are good are buggy books or ones that stick on the high chair.

I also get my DD, now 8, a Fraser bear every year, with the year embroidered on the foot. She has them all lined up on shelves in her room.

Engelsemama · 19/08/2012 08:18

My best friend bought my DS a personalised blanket from this website for his first Christmas (he was 2 and a half mo).

www.blanketlady.com/store/

It has his first name running through it and at the bottom the time and date of birth, his length and birth weight and full name.

She got a full size one so he can use it as he grows, rather than a baby one that will only last for a short time.

Such a great gift, I actually cried.

I got him which a nice hardbook copy of The Night Before Christmas to read over the years to come.

Groovee · 19/08/2012 08:20

I got D's a snow suit. Dd got him a buggy toy.
