I have tons of fantastic tea towels and looking through have seen a design that would be perfect for virtually every friend and family member, so will I be the sad old person that buys tea towels or is it a good idea?

A nice new set of tea towels, ok but a tea towel out of your kitchen drawer is a bit naff.

ditavonteesed · 23/06/2012 09:36

I have seen, oops, not I have.

Loots of cool things like a retro marmite jar and stuff like that.

I once got some matalan tea towels wrapped up for me for Christmas from my mil. don't get me wrong - I have used them. I just could not imagine why she would think it was a good idea to wrap them up and present them as a gift. Seemed a bit of an odd choice to me, especially since dh did not get any - so just for the lady of the house then!

great idea.

you could bake something and wrap them in the tea towel too.

trumpton · 23/06/2012 09:43

I love that tea towel and if given with a small jar of marmite would be perfect. Would the other tea towels match in with a small extra ?

tidybaby · 23/06/2012 09:43

I suppose it's no different really than the generic 'bathroom smellies' sets that everyone always seems to get.

TheSpokenNerd · 23/06/2012 09:46

I am planning to make a load like this OP....if you're crafty it's fun and cheap too..

I don't like that Marmite one at all..

ripsishere · 23/06/2012 09:49

I'd like one or two or three. Mine came from Asda and are dull dull dull.

Frikadellen · 23/06/2012 09:49

Personally I would hate getting a tea towel like that but if you try to ensure each tea towel is tailored to that person then hopefully I will get a nice crisp white with very little colour one (funny about her tea towels emotion)

I am not actually a fan of mass presents but I don't suppose it is the worst thing you could do if you had to go down that route

ditavonteesed · 23/06/2012 09:49

nerd they are gorgeous, not crafty though. like the idea of a small gift with it.

Mmmm.....it wouldn't be my favourite gift to receive......

2Old2BeABluePeterPresenter · 23/06/2012 10:01

I always make Christmas puddings for the extended family, mass presents make it much easier :)

ditavonteesed · 23/06/2012 10:01

Now those ones are nice and much better than my matalan pack of three

biffnbuster · 23/06/2012 10:06

My friend gives me a cat tea towel Christmas or birthday most years. I wouldn't spend that much on a tea towel (I get me cheap plain ones), and she supports a cat charity as well. (She also gives me other things not just a tea towel)

ditavonteesed · 23/06/2012 10:06

this one for me and my best mate.

Casmama · 23/06/2012 10:06

I would be pretty unimpressed with a tea towel and as a present theme I think it is a bit twee to be honest but you know the recipients better. Also agree with Maryz - it is only June.

KatMumsnet · 23/06/2012 10:10

Hi we've moved this into the Christmas topic. Thanks.

rhondajean · 23/06/2012 10:11

I would be a bit baffled with a tea towel. Mostly as I only use them as oven gloves as I think they are horrid germ ridden things.

However one year dd2s nursery class drew self portraits and they were all printed on a tea towel with their names. I did get the in laws one each for Christmas, but it was an add on. I couldn't imagine giving a tea towel as a proper present.

C'mon dita, get that kitchen aid working, home made cakes erc be a far nicer gift!
