How can I make mince pie ice cream? I haven't got an ice cream maker

Can I just make it by letting some decent vanilla stuff go soft, and then mashing up some mince pies in in, and then re-freezing it, or is that a monumentally stupid and disgusting idea?

That was exactly what I was going to suggest. I haven't got an ice-cream maker eitherXmas Grin

Maybe you should freeze the mince pies first, then bash them with a rolling pin into chunks and then stir in and re-freeze? If they are soft, they might just go like a much all through the ice-cream?

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:20

I saw some advertised on the TV, thought 'ooooh'. Grin

I can't be arsed to make a custard and churn things/stir semi frozen ice cream for all eternity.

I have visions of a lovely mince pie flavoured ice cream, like ben and Jerry's cookie dough.

I wonder if anyone has done it.

EEEEwwww don't use mincemeat with suet in it frozen into icecream! YUK!

bigTillyMincepie · 16/12/2011 20:22

No you will have to try it. Get your rolling pin at the readyXmas Grin

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:22

OOh good idea re suet worms.

I know there are no churn ice cream recipes out there, I made one once, it was a bit strange, I have visions of clitted cream ice cream with bits of mince pie.

Good idea rea smashing the things to smithereens and then freezing them - so, heat them up (to get rid of suet worms), then break 'em up, then freeze, tyhen mix into softened ice cream.

Clitted ice cream? Now there's a thought.

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:24

Clitted! Christ! CLOTTED obviously. Grin

Hasn't all mincemeat got suet in it?

I am not making the mince pies either, am too lazy, so will be shop bought.

This will be lazy sluts ice cream.

Erm, put a scoop of icecream on top of a mince pie and dig in?

YABVVU to suggest a topping other than brandy butter so strong it makes you squiffy to smell it

bananamam · 16/12/2011 20:25

Clitted ice cream Grin haha!!! Best typo of the day

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:26

I did think of christmas pudding mixed with ice cream, but I want the pastry bits to get the full on cookie dough effect.

I will buy some ice cream and pies tomorrow and experiment. What other christmas shit can I put in ice cream? I wonder if stollen would work, or lebkucken.

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:26

Chaos would be proud of me.

Lebkuchen could be good.

Or go all Heston and do one with turkey, stuffing and cranberry jam?

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 20:30

Oh yes, or chocolate ice cream mixed with goose fat, bread sauce and parsnips.

Sprinkle some pine needles over that, you could serve it at the Fat Duck.

Don't let the ice cream soften too much if you're going to refreeze it, it goes really weird.

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 21:21

Suet worms are surely just in jarred mincemeat - so when you cook the mince pies the suet melts and just goes all over the rest of the stuff. So actual mince pies wouldn't have suet worms in anyway Confused

In that case why not just buy it from Sainsbo's (haven't seen any TV ads but they've a print one).

What I really want is some Bridge Farm special edition, last chance ever, Christmas Pudding ice cream. Is there a non-fictional version out there?

GrimmaTheNome · 16/12/2011 21:25

You can get veggie mincemeat (there's something that's strayed a long way from its origins!) which presmably is suet-wormless to start with.

Get0rf · 16/12/2011 21:27

It's probably got veggie suet worms.

What is veggie suet made of, I wonder.
